Wanting to move from WOW. Suggestions/Comments...

Well I have tried many MMORPG's. I tried EQ2, SWG, COH, and settled on WOW.  It is a beautiful game and really fun, but I am getting tired of it.  I guess becuase I have wanted something different from the fantasy setting.  Maybe I am tired that I log on, nobody wants to do anything together and if I am not on when my friends are, I am alone.  I would like a world that is ALIVE and there is alot of RP'ing or if no RP'ing, it be more than "lets level".   Any suggestions out there?  Thanks.

EVE online is all I can think of that you might like, although its always tough starting anew when the game has been out for awhile. Personally I plan on trying out DAoC when the brand new servers come up, if that doesnt work out then Roma Victor, Dark and Light and Imperator are on my list of soon to come MMOs to try.

    ----------------------------------
MMOs Retired From: Earth and Beyond, Project Entropia, There, A Tale in the Desert, Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, Eve Online, City of Heroes/Villains.

    MMOs Currently (worth) Playing: None.

    MMO hopefuls: Age of Conan.

    DAoC gets my vote. image

It has come a long way over the past 3 years and has matured into a world with plenty to keep you busy. RvR, PvE, player housing (actually of some benefit), instance dungeons to run if you are short on time, enough races/classes to please almost anyone as far as selection goes, crafting is varied and quite in depth, some of the quests are actually fun to do....the list goes.

Well i have to be honest here but i really don't think you will find an MMORPG game which is better than WoW. I take it your like me, tried the rest but for some reason just couldn't really give WoW up. No game i have played has come close to WoW but my advice would be to stay the hell away from Final Fantasy XI. The Matrix Online is definately different but i didn't enjoy it all that much but give it a year and see what SOE do with it. Eve Online is way way way different from your standard MMO game and i would only recommend it if your looking for something totally different. I also recommend giving Anarchy Online a try as it is fre so you can't go wrong.

I guess I don't really know.  I do love WOW and the game is great, I think I am running into a wall with not being able to goup easily.  When I group and stuff, I have a blast.  I got COH credit, it was easy to group there.  Maybe I need to sit down and get in a good guild.  I tried a guild, but the leader just upped and quit.  The game is so good and I would like to see things go further, maybe I need to try for a good RP guild.  Any sites with WOW guilds?  Thank for thoughts guys.

Having played almost all MMOs since Ultima Onlines first month, and betatested most of the current and future MMOs coming out, and now being in WoW with some of my friends working with games and programming..

(I know what you haters say, "Noob game", and I do not care. Me and a LOT of professional game developers agree on one thing. That a game has long hours of boredom and dull grinding does not mean its for more "advanced" players. It means its for players that likes to be bored a lot. Having played games since 1973, I can safelly say I am more "advanced" than the lot of you. )

... I can say that the only thing I feel is worth to look forward to.. is Battlefield 2.

I know, not an MMO... But seriously. Only full quality game coming out in a long time. Other than that, you are in for a long wait.

Now, if you have not played the "oldies", then I can suggest EVE for its complexity, Anarchy Online for being the best freebie game out there or.. Do like me and keep your WoW while waiting for them to flesh it out a bit more.

It should be thrown with great force"

Couldn't agree more with the last poster, Battlefield 2 is going to be the bizz, the demo is amazing and i know what will be consuming a good deal of my time.

For a WoW guild i wouldn't recommend finding them on a website, your best bet is to look ingame and such, group with people and visit places which require socialising. If your after pvp i advise you goto the battlegrounds and check out people that way, you can generally tell good guilds from the bad from the sort of players they have. If your looking for a pve based guild then stick to instances. and finding a guild that way.

I recently finished my final set of exams as an undergraduate university student. I was looking forward to relaxing with a few video games over my break.

What I did not expect was that I would have no game that I *wanted* to play.

I was getting sick of WoW even before I was forced to quit. After thinking about it I had no desire to re-subscribe. It is a very very solid game, however I have not been able to stick with a MMORPG for longer than 2-3 months since Ultima Online (my first).

It is not just WoW though... Today is my second day since I finished exams - I have also tried Jade Empire(XboX), Knights of the Old Republic 2(PC), Forza Motorsport(XBOX), Half life 2(PC).

Jade empire is full of never ending dialogue which is largely unrelated to the story line. I could not persist with it.

Forza motorsport turned me off 15 minutes into the game. I dont think standard driving sims impress me anymore.

KOTR2 was good fun. I finished it. The dialogue was not TOO lengthy, but close.

Half life 2 is a superb game, however I get dizzy playing it and need to take a break every 1-2 hours.

I was thinking of subscribing to Guild Wars, however I dont think I can be bothered.

I hope I am not growing up and losing interest in games. I am 23, and I did not ever think the day would come where I could not be bothered playing a game. I don't know if I am burnt out from exams or I am losing interest in it all.

I went nearly the same way ... with AO and DAoC (with new Catacombs engine...) underway .... jumped into WoW in Nov 2004 ... quited it now. I am enjoying my time in EVE Online now. It is the game where You will find no griefing kids, no spoilers, the only thing that can be bought outside the game is ISK (cash), skill system prevents kids with a lot of time to take an advantage over the working ppl, community is the best out of the MMO's out there, and the game support is "user friendly" (they just know how pays their salaries ...).
so - go EVE. You will thank me later.

ps. I do not think one can grow out of games ... I am over 30 and have a full set of friends that still play different MMOs out there.

::::35:: No, my guild's average age is 28, with a few members over their 40's. Gamin is more of a hobby for us.

Sounds like you need to take a break. However, I'd suggest Eve Online or DAoC as well.

I don't think I need a break.  I am finishing my last class for my BS in Computer Science and don't play every night like I did, so that is not it.  Just recently I haven't been able to run with my two friends and I finally realized WOW or at least the server I am on (Earthen Ring, RP server but not much RP happening *sigh*) is just full of people that solo.  Hell in COH, I was in a party every night.  Hmmm, maybe I need to reinstall COH.  I went from COH due to the worlds lack of "being a huge world and expansive" but I think that may have been a bad choice.

What is EVE Online about?  Thanks for the talking suggestions.  I am just thinking I should have stuck with my first "love" in MMORPG's, COH.

Sounds like you may be one of many who needs a good mature guild. The way it sounds is, you have a couple people you play with and if they arent on its boring. Of course its boring if that is the case, we are playing an mmorpg but you really arent experiencig the mmo part of it in its fullest.

I dont personally RP but im on a server that is and I see more than a few guilds here and there that RP regularly. IF the above really isnt the case for you....

then go back to COH if you liked it alot. Or try Eve with free trial, wouldnt hurt.

  • sandmanfvrsandmanfvr Member Posts: 19

COH is a possibility.  Only thing about COH that I hate is the small ass world and lack of imagination in the world.  WOW is so incredible, I haven't seen everything yet and running around in the world is just cool.  Yeah, I am just bored.  I will run with my friend tonight but like you said, if I don't see them then I just don't have much fun.

The other MMORPG I thought about was Matrix Online, but after readin all the crap on the boards, I think I wil pass.  I will have to look at EVE Online.

About your guilds, in WOW?  Also what are the guilds like and do you group alot?  Can I join?  Thanks.

I was in the same situation 60 days ago, and I moved to GW as it was monthly free, but I just played it for 30 days as GW is almost as "simple" as WoW.

After that, I decided to go to EVE as and try the trial period and I really like it a lot it is really full os possibilities compared to WoW

Well, honestly here, you state that you've tried just about every major MMO and didn't like it. What is it that you're looking for?

Sad to say but I think you will have to wait for the next crop of MMORPG's to come out...Its funny how things work out. I played WoW for 6+ months and loved it but now that I have gotten bored I will be trying out EQ2. Mostly for lack of any other game to play that I have not already tried at some point.

The guy who suggested Daoc may be right though. It may be fun for you if you never played it before

  • SramotaSramota Member Posts: 756

Sounds like AutoAssault could be your friend instead,

skill needed and no 'wasted time'

Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW...
    It all sucked.
