Well...here we are. Green lantern movie is out and it was the great stumbling block / marketing piece to get these powers in game. How long do you think it will take to get it in game?

Not to be a troll . . . but in-game or in-game and working right?
So far, they can't release an Update without breaking parts of the game, and the problem has been growing progressively worse from Update 1 to Update 3.
I cringe to think of the state of things with the upcoming Update 4.
I was wondering the same thing. If they are going to hype a GL expansion now is the time to do it. The longer they wait after the movie the less hype there will be. Maybe they'll wait until the DvD release?
Better than an expansion...
It's DLC!!!!

There will be many new items in game, including Green Lantern and Sinestro suits, as well as several Iconic Gear sets. Fans can look forward to seeing much more of these Light Powers at this year's Comic Con, and the pack can be purchased later this summer for $9.99.
This is such a douche bag move, even for a company like SOE>
They sold this game to players with the promise that they "owed players monthly updates" due to the subscription fee. Those content updates have gotten smaller are months late and mostly just reskinned content already in the game. Now they want to charge more money for content... in a game that has a major lack of content... on top of adding a cash shop to the game the other week?
It is pretty clear where SOE has their priorities and again it is not in creating satisfied customers or making great games. They view their gams as nothing but a freeway to the wallets of their players. Everything else is of secondary concern.

Pretty fucking sad to see Sony charging extra for game content on top of the subscription cost. I remember the day when a monthly subscription cost meant that the content from game updates was free.
Dickhead move Sony...dickhead move.
Don't forget that SOE just added a cash shop to DCU just the other week.
For all the talk about how hard it is for SOE to create content on a monthly basis and how much they want to add to the game to make players happy, they certainly have all the time in the world for working on features that will have an additional price tag.

I wonder if Bill still plays this game as a subscriber...I wonder what he thinks about this...
Many players aren't put off by the $10 pricetag that the SOE DCUO fanbois on their forums would have you believe.
It's the fact that this game was released with the promise of having month content, that then went to 4-6 weeks...and now 8-10.
It's the fact that this game was released with SO LITTLE CONTENT that it's a breeze to shoot to 30 within 1-2 days then run over re-skinned content that you did while leveling up over and over and over and over and over and over again.
They should focus on adding this sort of content into the game included in subscriptions. I'd wager they'd make more money by players returning with subscriptions than they will by selling this standalone DLC.
This isn't just about subscribers either, what about the lifetimers? Shouldn't they be getting something like DLC for free?

A great game so poorly executed and followed up on. I wondered how they would charge the life timers, they really did go with actual content a sub is supposed to provide.
FYI the light powers were supposed to be in for launch but were pulled back and they were in beta.

DCUO Wants YOU for the Green Lantern Corps! - 07/11/2011
SAN DIEGO – July 11, 2011 – Sony Online Entertainment LLC (SOE) today announced the first Downloadable Content (DLC) pack for DC Universe Online (DCUO), "Fight for the Light." Featuring DC Comics favorite The Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) and the introduction of the game's seventh power set – Light, the new downloadable content will be available this summer for both PC and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system.
"The Green Lantern has been a mainstay for DC Comics fans for more than 60 years, and is a fan favorite among our players," said Mark Anderson, Game Director of DC Universe Online. "We've listened to the feedback, and fans can now create their own Lantern-inspired characters including the use of light powers."
So I guess we know why the monthly content updates took so long to come out, they charged people a sub fee while they were working on DLC that they are charging them for again.
If they could possibly do the light power set justice..I'd reconsider subbing. I just dont see how they can accurately create such a power set...one that basically allows you to will into existence...a hard-light version of anything you can imagine. Instead..everyone will be throwing about the same fist/hammer/flyswatter or throwing up the same shield/dome/brickwall....only in the color of their specific lantern/ring. If they make one of the powers a hotwheels track I'll cut off my own testicles.
I always suspected there was fine print attached to that statement - let's face it, if they had a better retention rate, they probably would have delivered; but they didn't, so they can't.
We should all know that with the games current state, that would be a financial impossibility. And no matter what rights you think we may have as customers, I can't imagine very many business folks who'd be willing to throw money away at a game with a dying population just because the devs made their best case scenario outcome as a part of the marketing campaign.
My guess is a f2p model incoming - marketed to the ps3 and with luck they'll have the revenue to keep it up.
I only fear a f2p model may turn me off - but with the current population; i'm willing to try. But if it is a total money grubbing scam, meaning I'd have to pay more than 15 bucks a month to stay competitive, and there is no 15/mo sub option - I too will go elsewhere for my hero fix.
Wondering.. do lifetimes get this for free or are they paying as well?
"TO MICHAEL!"
Knowing SOE even life-time subscribers will have to chalk up that extra cash for the expansion.
They do. The only people really left playing are the lifers and $OE wants to get every single penny they can from them. I hope they realise they are only going to hurt themselves by buying this crap. If they make a penny from this I expect $OE to continue to keep fleeceing the only ones that truly believe this game is remotely worthy of someones free time. The crappiest thing about it, I bet most of them pony up the money.
From Smedbuck's quote on monthly updates(only 3 in 6 months),free quarterly big updates (which in 6 months have been zero), charging international consumers 20% more, slow exploit fixes, buggy content, dev communication of almost nil,...I learned in 3 months in DCUO that they deserved every bit of bad press/negitive word of mouth that I have heard. $OE has over promised and under delivered as per usual. How this company can remain in the gaming industry truly boggels the mind.
Well said toona!
I've highlighted the part I REALLY hope people understand. If this DLC is successful, it will be the revenue model moving forward.
Wow... that's just BEYOND disgusting. They release the game pathetically content-lite and they still have the stones to charge money for this, less than 6 months from launch?
I wonder...
Do you think this interferes with the MAJOR monthly content pushes Smed promised?
I'm impressed. Just when you think a company can't screw up like this, SOE never disappoints. Can anyone explain to me why they are making you pay for something that should have been in game from launch? As others have said, the problem isn't dropping cash on the shop. Jeez in CO they give stuff like this away for free to lifers and gold accounts. OK so they don't have any free players (yet!) but at least give it to lifers for free. Do they actually hate their own fanbase?
There is NO miracle patch.
95% of what you see in beta won't change by launch.
Hope is not a stategy.

SOE has some good potential here, but it seems like positive word-of-mouth over the Green Lantern mini-xpac is drowning out the good stuff. Is it really worth the $10?

1. What we are actually doing is getting rid of the expansion and splitting the content into 3 pieces each for $10. So it’s discounted in the first place (a total of $30 instead of the usual $39.99). Also it’s split out over the year.
2. We are doing this so that we can deliver MORE free content. Expansions take a lot of the team a long time. This way it breaks things up and allows us to deliver better free content.

Huh...so...what happened to the monthly free content to justify a sub fee?
I know they're behind and we tease them about it, but I thought they were still working on acheiving that goal? Am I mistaken? I know it turned out to be more difficult, but...shouldn't that goal take a priority over an expansion?
They can't put out the " free monthly" updates because they are too busy working on pay for expansions.
I think you're right...
Curious, if this is the extent of the "expansions" though, does that mean players are stuck with just the 2 cities for at least the next year? No plans to add in more (which is what I would have hoped for in a true expansion?
