wow shit i like this..what is it? co op multiplayer or a real mmorpg with professions, persistent world with few instancing etc...

  • jkfcjkfc Member UncommonPosts: 42

That is a really good looking game i have to say. looking forward to it.

It's multiplayer online game, for example like... eh. Call of Duty.

But it's focused on medieval fighting on foot and it will include archers of course.

You choose a class and I think you'll be able to customize it a bit also,

and then just simply kill as many enemies as possible.

You can find more information from the website and forums, please check it out!

I`d love it if you guys would consider turning it into an MMO sometimes in the future, using the same mechanics you're developing now.

Better to be crazy, provided you know what sane is...

This is the commercial project of a source engine mod "Age of Chivalry"

You can download and play it for free from Steam.

I have to say the game is incredibly deep and funny. The first person combat mechanics are the best I have ever seen in this kind of games (MMOS included), very accurate actually. The melee system even tracks the direction blows are coming from when you parry, so that you have to move your shield accordingly or you will still take damage even if parrying.

There's also a very clever stamina system, which is different from each class.

There are officially three classes in the game: Archers, Man at Arms and Knigths, but each of these are more archetypes than classes.

Each one has in fact three more specializations, like eg. the Archer archetype can be Crossbowman (my favorite and probably one of the most difficult classes to play), Longbowman and Javelineer.

Interesting gameplay, I've been playing for a while, and after years the combat is still engaging and yet very difficult to completely master.

Yes it was first released as a HL2 mod (Age of Chivalry), but this will be way better than the mod which I have played for several years.

And the combat in Chivalry Medieval Warfare will be more accurate and smooth :)

Oh yeah, I knew it looked familiar. I never got around to playing the mod, how does the combat compare to Mount and Blade?

  • tuskamatotuskamato Member Posts: 7

I think the combat is better in Age of Chivalry, but It doesn't have

mounted combat which mount and blade has... Go and check out the mod If you'd like,

but don't mistake the mod as the same game as Medieval Warfare which hasn't

    been released yet. :)

I haven't played M&B that much, but from what I saw Age of Chivalry has a faster pace and, in my opinion, is more complex. Granted you don't have mounted combat and you can't customize your equipment. But you should try "Helms Deep" map, it's the best siege map I've ever played :)

Well, I tried the mod out today and it's not really for me, at least in its current state. Hopefully this new version will be much improved. I'm not sure if it was an issue with lag or or just the general hit detection, but everything felt really loose, haphazard, and sporadic, especially comming from mount & blade, where I generally know if my swing will hit before even releasing it. I'm not sure if I'd agree that the combat system here is more complex. It seemed simpler to me, given that swings and blocks are directional-based in M&B, where here you just have 3 different swings and a uni-directional block. Also, feints and footwork seem much more important in M&B, but maybe that's just because I'm new to AoC. I do really like the speed of AoC though, and I think the atmosphere and art direction is better. If you could only merge the two games together, then it would be great. =P
