General: StarCraft II MMO Mod 'StarCraft Universe' Alpha Trailer

Months ago StarCraft II modder Ryan Winzen released a video of his StarCraft II MMO mod "World of StarCraft," which, while impressive, attracted the ire of Blizzard's lawyers due to concerns over the use of the mod's name and code.

 

The issue was eventually resolved and Winzen pushed forward with the project under the new name "StarCraft Universe," and today he's released the first alpha gameplay trailer of the mod, showing significant improvement.

    Let's hope Blizzard doesn't wait until these fellows are done, have them arrested, steal their client and turn around and try and sell it to all of us as their 'new' Titan project.

    He has made amazing progress since the first video, cannot wait to try it out.

    I am excited about this for two reasons.:

    1. This has come a long way from the first already impressive video and looks like a lot of fun.

    2. I am absolutely useless at RTS games and this will give me a use for the SC2 client I bought.

    Well if Blizzard doesn't offer him some kind of job someone will eventually. I think it looks awesome.

    From what I recall he has already been asked to go to Blizzard and likely has been talked to about that.

    Im Impressed And Im Really Looking Forward To It, Its Coming Out Really Good From I What I See. I've Been Waiting A Long Time For An MMO Version On Starcraft To Come Out I Hope This One Lives Up To It. Either Way I Hope Blizzard Does Come Out With A Starcraft MMO One Day, Just Like They Did With World Of Warcraft.

    I purchased SC2 on release, played the single player, loved it... played a little multi-player... hated it (too similar to SC1 which I played forever and ever and got burnt out on!)

    This looks awesome, i've been waiting for a "dota" style mod or some other cool mods to pop up!

    They werent prosecuting him lol. all that happend was that their legal department told him to change the name of the mod, after which he got an invite to blizzard HQ to talk to the devs.

    If I remember correctly, when he was first tosses the CnD letter from Blizzard on the original name; Riot actually reached out to hire him and he denied them. I would almost bet Blizzard would tell him that he can work from them if he "Hands over his completed work" I doubt they would buy it off him but who knows maybe Activision/Blizzard wont be greedy on this one. (LOL j/k they are one of the most greedy companies I have had the pleasure of dishing out mass quanities of my money to.)

    I really liked the look of that, can't stand RTS games myself but this grabs me.

    I actually think "StarCraft Universe" is a better, more fitting name given the setting of the games.

    The subtitle, "Chronicles of Fate", however... kinda weak. It just sounds like one of those generic "fantasy-sounding" titles someone comes up with 'cause it sounds cool.

     

    Does look cool though.
