Being in a MMO that once had 1 server that people from around the world all logged into, but had big US player community on it , you certainly did notice the community become a much friendly place when the US community got their own server and moved away. There certainly is an element in US culture that makes their youth especially likely to be belligerent, obnoxious and rude towards you.
I guess their youth culture is very media driven and for some reason their culture freaks out at the sight of nipples on their prime time TV screens, but violence is accepted. So it's not surprising you've had generations growing in the latter half of the 20th century and now decade into the 21 that have been heavily influenced with these gangsta attitudes and violence sold to them through their media. Of course this doesn't speak for them all and there pocket of pretty good US player communities out there, just not as common as the grief crowd.
op:if you compare it to say eq2 or eq1 the reason is simple .most are adult and among those a lot of role player .and those are the no drama kind of player ,they dont tolerate a lot of childish behavior.
By 'trying wow next' I think you're pretty much out of the frying pan and on your way into the fire
This. WoW has the worst community in any MMO I've played.
LOL you haven't played EVE. Trust me, EVE has more arse-hats, clowns and jerks, per-capita than any game currently on the market and that includes WoW.
It's just not care-bear friendly, that's all. It's a "school of hard knocks" type of mmo, and if you screw up because of your own stupidity or get scammed, you learn from it and get going again. Whiners get dumped on with a gigantic vat of vitriol, which is as it should be in a dog-eat-dog game.
Nice excuse there bud. Who gives a damn if it is 'school of hard knocks' and not care bear? we are talking about behavior and yes EVE community is worse than WOW. However i laughed after your description of internet tough guys who play EVE online. lol. such bad a**..lol.
Funnily enough your post makes you come across as the typical 'arsehat' that people are trying to avoid.

Did you even read the post to which i replied of course not. But thanks for your contribution. Are you an internet tough guy too by any chance? going around calling others carebear and whiners?

Yes I did read it as a matter of fact. If anything your latest post seems to back up my original comment.
Edit: Never mind, my original post was a bit arsey as well in fairness.

Being a 28 year old american i agree. The culture here almos seems to promote our youth to be the complete opposite of an agreeable citizen. And its not really violence on TV, but parents in general. We promote freedom of speech here, all and good, i like my violence on tv at times. In the end parents seem to use MMO's as a means to "babysit" there kids to keep them out of their way, and you end up with masses of punk kids who have no discipline spending hours and hours online, not learning any real social interaction aside from the fact that in a game there are no "real life' repercussions to what you say or do to other people.
Because the grass always looks greener on the other side, until you actually get there and find that it is the same old crap.
Well, that's not exactly true. Sometimes the grass really is greener on the other side, you only have to see how different one neighbourhood can be from another neighbourhood in the same city, or try to explain to someone who lives in a war tortured, heavily poor country that he's imagining things that the grass is greener elsewhere than where he lives, and that the situation in western rich(er) countries isn't different from that in his own country. Different places, different situations, sometimes better, sometimes worse

My experience of Koreans aren't as nice as your, In the beta of Lineage every third player was Korean and they weren't very popular. While some of them were nice they had the worst bunch of griefers I ever seen as well, and I seen a lot in 15 years.
I think this is just a "grass is greener on the side of the fence" thing.
Some games have better communities than others, but that is because those games are better for forming communities. Games were soloing or backstabbing is the best way to get around get horrible communities.
Smaller games tend to get better communities as well, since people bonds more in smaller groups.
But I don't believe that nationality affects how good a community is.
If a game is very popular it attacks a wide demographic including everything from children to old people.
Global chat channels tend to have a lot of jerks in them.
When you hear a game has a 'good community' it either is struggling to get more players or it doesn't have global chats.
So you might be thinking, 'well don't allow global chats'. A game without some kind of global chat can seem like a ghost town even though there are plenty of people on.
As always, the cure for a 'bad community' is to get in a good guild and turn off global chats.

In addition, As well as community size If the player base is happier with the game then there will be less 'jerkiness'. A game that is having technical issues or bad design decisions will create discontent, Also if a game is marketing and getting younger less mature players than that will have an effect. If a game encourages or allows griefing then this is a factor, same with open loot. Finally age of a game is a factor, people do get bored of games regardless of content or quality.
Siloing in a good guild masks the problem, but does not create a healthy in game community in fact it becomes more tribal and aggressive.

I think that every game is partially what you make of it. I've played EQ, DAoC, SWG (pre-NGE), WoW, EQ2, and GW. All of the communities have been pretty similar. There will occasionally be somebody that is obnoxious but they are not everywhere. While WoW may seem to have more I think that may be due to its large overall population while its per-capita of obnoxious people may be around the average. Another thing to keep in mind is how subjective understandings of friendly communities are. People mention other nationalities being more friendly but they may find us (North Americans) just as intrusive when we play in their games.

I think everyone's over complicating what actually boils down to this: there are assholes everywhere, but some are more vocal than others.
