Incarna: Is it worth a reactivation?

PolypropylenPolypropylen Member Posts: 30
Hi there,

i'm thinking of resubcribing to Eve Online. I already have a Minmatar Lv3 missionrunner with battlecruisers character(my only character).
But it's been so long since i played Eve and i never did the mining/industrial/exploring tutorials. I only did the military ones...

And now i want mine and craft, but i also want to see the whole new tutorial, starting in captains quarter and so on.
So i'm curious about creating a new character or just learn the skills for mining on my old char, only if it's possible to see the whole tutorial with my old char without loosing all SP.

Best regards
Poly :)

As far as creating a new character, that's honestly up to you. With learning skills gone it may be worth your while to create a new pilot depending on your current characters SP. However, keep in mind if you have good standing with an NPC corp that your refining yield is higher (for mining) and may be able to run missions already for their mining/industry division if the corp you ran for has one.

I've heard the new tutorials are great. It's been years since I've had to do any of them but I hear good things.

You can do any of the tutorial missions with any character at any time. I have never seen this not an available option so if anyone could correct me on that please do. I am 90% sure that you can open the help menu and start with tutorial agents of all paths.

I would suggest downloading EVEmon. It is a character progession program that allows you to track your pilots SP and make skill plans. It's great for seeing how long it will take to fly a certain ship/manufacture a certain item etc. Also very good for planning out buying skillbooks and viewing player-submitted fittings.

Word of advice for faction standing and a lot of ISK early on is to look up and run COSMOS missions for your faction. You get implants and BPCs for rare modules that you can either sell or manufacture and sell for a decent amount of money.

    Fly safe.

    Not by a long shot.

For incursion. No. For the game. Always. But don't expect mission running to be any more fun than it was when you quit. It's not. Its still the same clicky-killy-collecty-rinse-repeat; So if you quit because you failed to force PvE out of the game, you'll quit again. Even more so as an industrial or miner. Without people to help you and support you, playing as a "craftin profession" is just no fun...

As a sidenote. As a rabid "customization" fan I really love the new CC, finally walking on stations (with the outlook to being able to interact in person). For me, this added a great deal of "life" to the, while being very open and sandboxy, very sterile and technocratic universe. It chopped away some of the omnipresent technerd aura that made me "god, fire the design crew and employ my wife instead, she'll make this place look nice and cozy in no time" many times.

No, Incarna is not worth a reactivation.

I was in a similar situation a couple months ago. I'm not sure how long you've been gone, but I was unsubbed for 4 years before I came back. I'm so happy I did. While there have been so many changes, and so much to learn, the game is still so much fun at the same time, imo. I love it. I'd recommend sticking with your old character and just running through the tutorials (I think you can do that). No sense in losing all the SPs and standing that you had acquired.

Most forums are filled with bitter vets and malcontents who either: 1) feel they've somehow been "betrayed" by CCP due to some imaginary affront or invented slight--these types often suffer from a large amount of hubris , 2) are entitlement kiddies who don't understand why a game company doesn't cater to their personal whims. These people enjoy complaining about anything and everything. This forum is no different in terms of being full of them. My recommendation is to take whatever these people with a grain of salt, a large grain.

Come back to EVE. Play for a month. Decide for yourself whether you want to stay. I know I did.

They can adjust a game all day, but they can't help the issue between the keyboard and the chair.

    This. (except the always part)

I was hoping for some improvements, but its pretty much the same game as it's been. The incursions themselves don't provide much fun for me. Try the new tutorials, but just know that if you want to do any industrial type missions, you're wasting time compared to kill missions (profit wise).

I've tried really really hard to like Eve over the years, with many re-activations. While it has a lot of unique aspects to the game that I really like; those aspects have never come together to form a game that holds my interest.

Like in the quote... if you quit last time because the gameplay didn't do it for you, the same thing will happen this time (not much has changed). If you previously left for another game or something, Eve might work for you now.

It currently isn't worth it RIGHT NOW. In december or January when the next iteration is applied then I'd say you could reactivate your account. The next iteration allows you to see not just your character in the stations but also everyone else who decides to go walking around.

    This is not a game.

    Kk...so no reactivation for me^^

But this sci-fi space-ship genre is unique in EVE! Also there are no good singleplayer games as EVE. X3 just sucks, cause its learning curve is just double as hard as the one EVE gives you! BlackProphecy also is nothing really good, you always own the same ship which also looks the same as the ship of your race.

I love this genre, also i read many space-opera books from different authors.

But sadly EVE is the only game offering this content. :(

Yea mission running won't be fun till they update the Ai. Which we will never know when that's coming.

    This is not a game.

Incarna has no game to it.  Its introduction seems to only exist for the sole purpose of bringing eve an item shop.

If you wish to play EVE for EVE and spaceships, I would say yes.  If you are resubbing becasue they released the first part of Incarna, I'd say no.    Wait until they have all the CQ's in the game and the main part they have promised - WIS.  As it is right now, the one CQ doesn't add anything to the game other than it is cool to be able to see your character finally.

Incarna, at least in my opinion, is a bit underwhelming at this point. Once it is built up a bit more, then it might be more of a draw. At this time, it is pretty much a solo experience and functionally, doesn't seem to add a whole lot to the game. It does look nice and some of the interfaces in it are pretty neat so it does have its pluses (depending on your tastes). Once your avatar can directly interact with other pilots in the station I can see it being more appealing.

Why not create a trial account and poke around? If you think it is worth continuing, resub on your previous character. Any learning skills you had should have a striaght SP refund that you can allocate to mining or whatever you want. Same with some of the social skills you might have had.

"sp refund" and "allocate to mining".... does that mean i can "reset" my current skills, but keep my SP and just put them from one skill away onto another?

No. It means that if you previously had invested skill points into Learning skills, you can reallocate those Learning skill points, and those points only, to any other skills that you see fit.
