The good news is I've accepted that themepark MMOs just aren't for me no matter how the PR tries to dress them up.

Maybe you should stop playing mmos then because there hasn't been a sandbox mmo since UO.

Umm... Eve Online for starters is one and an established sandbox MMO, Mortal Online and it's predisesor were also sandbox MMOs I recall along with others that are out there.  There have been plenty of sandbox MMOs.

Rift quite simplely is a rehash of WoW, nothing new, nothing innovative.  The dissatisfaction of the gear grind in end-game is ever growing as people are tired of it.  That's why GW2 and SWTOR is hyped so much, they are trying to change the mold of MMOs that have been done over n over.

Really? I'm enjoying Rift and i've played everything since UO, and I mean everything, including the three you mention. I think the opposite is true, I think it's perfect for experienced old school mmo players like myself because everything in Rift is so familiar without being boringly so. Yes we've done it all before, but we haven't done it all in the same place. The only thing it lacks for me is a community as strong and immersive as UO or LOTRO outside of guilds. Having said that the open raid system works like a treat.

I'm glad that you are enjoying the game now. It's always nice to find an enjoyable game that lasts. Rift, unfortunately, is not that game for me. I'm fine with it being a jack of all trades and doing nothing new, but it doesn't have anything to keep me interested after a while. The feeling of "been there done that" is not the real problem, the real problem is "why here?"

So I'm back to my old game.

AC1, EVE, and SWG were a few of the better known ones.

I'd add FFXI as well. Not purely a sandbox but it lent itself to that type of play with no quest hubs.

Played WoW for 6 years, this was a fresh start for me and i' m still enjoying it.

I suggest you try the game longer then 6 weeks before you quit your sub. Did you even do some of the raids?

Did you know 22nd june a new super big ass raid is coming?

Stop sniffing that crap kids, it's baddd!

I'm glad you like the game because it surely has its merrits. It's extremely good graphically and plays smoothly, but it does have it's shortcomings. Ever since the 'hail, you are the ascended bla bla bla" *applause* and then half a second later another player starts a toon, hail..., and again, and again. I'm sure they tried to make players feel special, but with only two levelling paths, the problems with the souls system and the lack of new things at end game not everyone will like this game long enough for it to become the WoW-killer many had expected it to become.

I'm not sniffing anything, I'm just not as easy to please as I used to be.

Waiting for Guild Wars 2, and maybe SWTOR until that time...

Guild Wars 2 I can understand, as Arenanet have outright said that they don't want people to feel the need to grind for gear or levels, which is why they made such thing irrelevant (flat leveling curve & only asthetically better gear at max). Whereas SWTOR are only changing up the leveling experience by making it more immersive (your choices matter), but you'll still find yourself grinding some form of rep, currency or craft, for better gear. Which is why I can't get excited for SW:TOR because it will just feel like Rift, once I hit max level.

Now as for Rift... I played it for a month, had a lot of fun, reached max for my Cleric and got burnt out quick. Unsubbed then I re-subbed a couple weeks ago and I've already maxed out a Warrior (T2 gear), I'm about to max out a Rogue and I'm beginning to get burnt out already. Just shows that the game needs to be B2P (buy the box with some minor microtransactions), because it's the kind of game that I can burn through so quickly and get burnt out so easily. If it wasn't for the sub I wouldn't feel the need to play it every day and get as much as I could out of it.

Oh yeah & I'm gonna un-sub for good. No point continuing, after maxing out 3 classes and being bored to death of the last one.

I logged back on for my welcome back week, played for about an hour then logged out, haven't returned since.

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.
