Where do you get the idea there is no beta testing?  I can assure you this game is currently being tested.

I dont call closed beta testing a game sorry you cant get the exact issue on it, they may find small loctation problems but nothing like if they would do a open beta test...again people not reading

You don't understand how testing works.

Open Betas are mostly stress tests for servers and game structure. Closed Betas are to nail glitches bugs, and revamp some fail mechanics etc.

Open Beta is more of a priveledge really.

OB is just a marketing tool and many people use that as an excuse to get a free look at a game, they never do any real testing. I remember a time when there were no OBs.

  • xxariochxxxxariochxx Member Posts: 97

I have done more testing on alpha's and betas in the last 13 years to know what Im talking about name a game that has clear cut open to press in the last 5 years they have been zero...most have so many issues on opening day to the next they patching theres butts off...because they didnt do a long enough beta open.

Quite the contrary, closed betas are much more useful for game testing than open betas. Open betas these days are for nothing more than marketing. They are completely useless for real testing. This game doesn't really need that kind of marketing and since story  is one of the main selling points having an open beta would actually be kind of stupid on their part.

Just admit it; you didn't get your usual free be with this mmo and now you're pissed. ;)

    Currently Playing: World of Warcraft

I for one am glad that they are not doing an open beta, and they have been pretty good at fixing stuff and listening to their closed beta community. Take the UI for example, many testers hated it and they changed it to that blue one that takes up less of the screen.

Well like i said be ready for a free to play game within the next 6 to 8 of its release  I honestly do not think its got the ability to hold its flavor its going to leave a bad taste in everyones mouth but hopely who knows they can try to prove me wrong but i dont think they will...The future of games is dying on its heels everytime they make a mmo now days look at all of them and tell me im wrong most are doing free to play to save there games because no can replace the monster that is wow and trust me i deleted my characters and never going to return to it ever.

OBs are often good for stress testing as the flood gates open and everyone 'tries' the game (not so much testing). *shrug*

I'll be curious as to how SW:ToR comes out of the gate and then +30-60 days. Time will tell.

An open beta is a marketing tool but so what? The absence of that marketing tool still tells you something. Let's contrast with Rift, which really invited anyone and everyone to the betas to see the game BEFORE paying for it.

Trion were (and still are) proud of their game. Confident that (enough) people could test it and then want to pay for it.

    What about SWTOR?

The very high prices + no way to test it + NDA on those lucky enough to test it = at least be very careful, if not sceptical.

When WoW was in beta their OPEN beta was 10,000 for the first phase and 20,000 for the second phase. SWTOR has 250,000 people in CLOSED beta. There is no need for an open beta for this game.

You can't begin to compare the two. Trion is basically a no name developer and Rift was relatively unknown outside the MMO community. TOR has 1.5 million people signed up for closed beta, if they had an open beta it would have to be huge. I doubt Rift had anything approaching those kinds of numbers. If you're going to have to have support for millions you might as well just release the game rather than have a meaningless open beta.

    You are really misinformed.

They are not doing a rift style marketing push, they are doing an actual beta that involves people testing the game, not an extended free trial.

  • GormokGormok Member Posts: 379

Like Barak said, if they were to let millions of people into an open beta.  Would it not just be better to just release the game instead. As a matter of fact I think BW kinda said that themselves, with a million people signed up to test the game there is really no need for an open beta.

Guys, the game is still under NDA. No beta details, descriptions or opinions, even second hand, are allowed.  Thanks for understanding.

Also, going to lock this. These discussions are going on in other open threads.

Beta has been going on and there will be a new, small burst of betas like rift had in september.
