This is only one of many ways that EA will attempt to captialize on the IP/Product and maximize their revenue streams.
All part of a capitalistic venture, and if they really want to screw with folks they'll do like the toy industry does here and make sure there's a "shortage" of copies available at release to really drive the market into a frenzy.
Sony's also guilty of this, when ps3 launched, they deliberately had the majority of the ps3's put into a warehouse instead of sitting on store shelves, so people would think they were actually getting something for thier $600, when you could build a computer with 2x the power for that price.
The high price is there probably to make sure only those who really really want the CE get thier hands on someting with a limited supply, and it is probably more limited in Denmark than it is the U.S.
The law of supply of demand =capitalistic profit. You call it greed, but EA is following a system and prinicple which your economy is also based on, so I think it shoul be understandable.
I pesonally believe in a more socialist system with price cielings etc (I also believe in a free market but with a lot social programs), but the sad fact is the invisible hand of the free market is better suited to better accomodate for a struggling economy that can not provide for everyone, and so it makes room for those who earn it. by offering them a price that reflects the supply and their ability to buy, by how much they earn and how much they demand for it/willing to pay for it.
Also it does not make sense for a government to apply social benefits for a game considering other matters. Kind off topic, but it does make a point.
Hehe, not me either. I'll go for a Digital Edition if they launch one without the trash, but the ingame items
They have a digital deluxe version with most of the items (except the ingame store and the mouse droid).
yup but I would recoment not to buy it tho, you can only get the digital versions in the EA store and they scam you :P (conversion rates) either buy a CE from the US and make it ship , amazone is cheaper then ordering it in Europe or do the same for the regulair version , tho prize diference between regulair US and EU versions is ofc minimal due to the lower prize but still about 1/4th of the prize reduction.
Greed? Nobody's forcing you to buy it. Those who do buy it obviously feel it's worth it.
Do you know what Greed means?
It's not greed. They set a price the market will bear. It's basic capitalism. They are running a business, not a charity, not a non-profit, not a not-for-profit. As a consumer, you have rights - you have the right to purchase it at the listed price, buy it later for a reduced price or not buy it at all. This isn't a required staple like food. It's a collector's item edition of a video game. That alone ensures a premium price.
yeah you posted that on the other thread too...glad youre rich ...but there are mortals here that have to work
for that money. And making EURO and $$ nearly 1:1 is redicule
Then don't buy the collector's edition - it's not for you. It's for people who can are are willng to pay for it. Don't be angry because you can't afford it - it's not like you "need" it. I want a Ferrari, but I can't afford it so I stick with my Kia. You don't see me bitching about the cost of Ferraris and how it's so unfair they're priced out of range of good, common working folk.
@rhinok But people want things they don't earn. Isn't that why we're having the current economic crisis? People bought 400+K homes and made 40K a year.
If someone was given the choice: here is a CE or here is a regular edition both the same price, they would take the CE. The game then becomes how MUCH higher can you price the CE til people don't feel it's worth it. That's the price you start with and lower it just a smidge to keep people happy.
At the end of the day, if they priced a collector's edition lower they wouldn't call it COLLECTOR'S edition it'd just be DELUXE. If you think it's too expensive or aren't willing to get it, that's cool. But crying about it because people have to work to earn money, well, that's capitalism for you.

no but i dont smear it into other ppls faces ...
and its not that i cant afford it ..but he braggin bout gettin his 4 copies on 2 different threads ...nvm.
im not angry , i find its pricing policy redicule. besides your metaphor is as old as it is lame...so i invite you not to interact with me on this matter any further
Actually sending items from US-> EU is cheap. Especially things so light like gameboxes.
Besides it is not like they are sending individual games from US to each consumer in EU lol , they either send tens of thousands of copies in containers which is incredibly cheap for one box or even make EU boxes in EU which would be even cheaper.
I think either EA is screing Denmark because it is richer country per capita than US so they kno they can charge more or Denmark retailers are doing that or both EA & retailers.
In Poland SWTOR CE is like around 160$ atm so someone is screwing you in Denmark my fellow Eu Denmark friends. Just make order in other european country , don't think there is Dannish localized version anyway right?
Exactly! I have shipped containers around with stuff before and there is no way to use shipping as an excuse to overcharge one tiny box by so much. It is not like they are sending them by couriers one by one.. And like other posters said - there are cheaper places in Europe.. So yes they ARE screwing Europe.
To the other poster who asked about the (proof of price) price. I originally saw the 1250 DKK price at game.dk - it disappeared quickly though. Not sure if it was sold out or what. Gamestop on the other hand insists you go down to the store to get it.. 2011 and you can't order it online.
A third website that has it - though unofficially is CDON: they charge 1299 DKK (250 $). See here!
I have a screenshot if need be. Also on Facebook you can see Danish references to a price at Gamestop for 1200 DKK (231 $).
Reguardless it looks like the SWTOR CE is selling like hotcakes. Fools and their money and soon parted and all that rot.
EA Bioware and I imagine Gentle Giant LTD, will be laughing all the way to the bank.
SO did YOU buy the CE or not?
I think Euro zone is QUITE overpriced. The CE here is sold for 150 Euro, thats outrageous given it would be 104 Euro only by the actual Dollar-Euro conversion, EVEN with the tax thats only 130 Euro at best. I guess it bites the Danish addtionally because they still have their own currency, the Danish Crown.
People don't ask questions to get answers - they ask questions to show how smart they are. - Dogbert

Oh you misunderstood... that was a generic 'crap' - as in... 'anything.' I wasn't referring to the quality of the game. And, of course, if you comprehended the rest of the post you'd clearly see... I'm not mad, at all.
EA can charge whatever it wants to charge - you can decide if you want to pay.
Judging by your post history it doesn't seem like you were going to buy this game anyways. It seems like this is just another excuse to complain about how evil and greedy EA and Bioware are. I could be wrong though. *shrug*
Whether he was gonna buy it or not, his statement stands.
The pricing for this game looks greedy to a lot of folks, especially through Origin.
I'm questioning his motivation not whether he thinks it's a rip off or not. He could have posted this in the other threads about the CE pricing.
well, how about we stop trying to guess the motivations of people that we don't know and stick with facts at hand?
Well... to be fair... if you want facts, look at Draccan's post history. 15 total posts since November, 2010, and every single one of them was 100% negative, no matter the game. 10/15 were about SW:TOR.
So questioning whether this is nothing more than a poor troll'ing attempt is quite valid.
Anyway, I can't really comment intelligently on the CE price in Denmark. I doubt that EA themselves set the retail prices in every country - rather I'd think they sell for some flat wholesale rate across the globe, and then it's the retailers themselves who jack the price up to MSRP. So EA probabaly isn't being "greedy" here, but rather the retailers. Not sure though.

SWToR is EA / LA / Biowares golden egg and they have done all the right things tto hype this as much as possible.
That said I have followed many other games and I shall happily write some positive posts about GW2 and The Secret World and Age of Conan if you like. The first two I expect to blow Bioware out of the water and the last one is still very solid but not unproblematic. Would that make you feel better?
But truth is that the last few years is littered with MMO corpses. Rift is not going so well, CO was a disaster, DC Online was a disaster, Star Trek Online was a disaster, FF XIV was a disaster. So yes I do tend to focus on that. Right now GW2 and TSW are the only two games that really look good. Archeage too - but the avatars look crappy (early beta / alpha).
The sad thing is that I love MMOs but not much has happened since AoCs horrible launch. AoC at least was turned around. CoH is still a great game. Hell even WoW is solid compared with the above graveyard and I have no desire to go back to that.

I never buy a collectors edition any way, will never buy a life time sub, and don't see the benefits of a preorder to be worth buying a game with an uncertain release date. It's a famous IP with a huge amount of die hard fans. They could sell the CE for twice as much and people would by it all the same.
Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)
Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

if they dont manage to make one world wide stable price ...to hell with them
i was keen to play this game but if this is true i wont ...im not getting screwed

Boxes that will be sold in Europe are being made in europe.
Kind of related:if you buy a US car,you can send it to europe in a container on a ship, cost 1000$.
Now 1 container would fit 1000 boxes easily so hu hum do the math.
The EU does not recieve the game boxes from the US. The game is printed onto CD's in the EU region. No shipment cost.
I find this to be a major turn off. I can't honestly believe how they can charge us in EU insane amounts of money while US is way cheaper...
I think that Denmark might just be very expenssive when it comes to such things.
The Halo Legendary edition that also comes with a statue thing is almost the same price... 1150: http://www.coolshop.dk/catalog/product/62823-halo-reach-legendary-edition--for-x360
I wonder how much the CE with Modern Warfare 2 (the night vision goggles) and black ops (the race car) costed!
