    Personally, I'd buy a 6600GT over a 6800LE.

EQ2 isn't a better version of eq... it's pretty much a different game.
Not a good one at that.... nice graphics for the most part..

Your right not a good one, a great one. And the graphics aren't nice, they are PHAN-PHREAKIN-TASTIC. Check out Veiled_light's post in general discussion. He thought the screenshot sucked and its actually amazing image

Well i have a set up which is athlon 3800+,X850xt pci-e,2gb and can say after last ati catalyst i can run the game at extreme quality in cities with no lag(no lies here) and at very high quality in raids.I can do combat in group(but not crowded dungeons) in extreme quality with everything on including shadows with no slowdown.

But in crowded dungeons though quite playable to get back to a smooth play i need to reduce the shadows is all.

after conversation with my friend, I understood that it's better to take pci-e mb for the future... I've ~200usd for graphics card, which pci-e one to choose?image

what does this actually mean?.. not enough cpu, gpu or ram?

  • herculeshercules Member UncommonPosts: 4,925

Would guess probably a more powerful card to run eq2 in all situations with all settings up.

Doubt a more powerful cpu or more ram will do anything honestly.

The game is build for the future is all.

I would say 6600GT for $200. The X700 Pro just isn't as good for the same price. First ATI Xxxx model I would recommend is the X800 XL at around $300. For $200 in PCI-e, it's the 6600GT hands down.

So, your telling me, that SLI doesnt make EQ2 run better?  OMG!!!!

Okay, I am angry and this is why:

I litterally bought a $2300 dollar computer yesterday just to play EQ2... Here are the specs:

ASUS A8N-SLI Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard
    BFG Tech BFGR68256UOCX Geforce 6800Ultra 256MB GDDR3 PCI-Express x16 Video Card (Two of them)

SAMSUNG SpinPoint P Series SP1614N 160GB 7200 RPM IDE Ultra ATA133 Hard Drive
Thermaltake XASER III V2000A Silver Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

....  So, SLI doesnt work?  are their any patches that make it work?

    Thanks :)

in the end I've decided not to buy new pc and play la2image, reason is value of hardware EQ2 needs to run at max configuration, actually there's no need in continuing conversation...

p.s. I've left my pc, but didn't leave EQ2 gaming idea:) I'll return some later, when prices will fall down

Any reason you must play it on max setting because few can do it or what lol
  • KaneKane Member Posts: 780

I play on the second level below medium (plus some tweaks...like turning off shadows) and I have plenty of fun...graphics aren't everything...but even at below medium, it still looks damn good.

you mean I have no right to play eq2 on max settings? lolish post actually :-

Seems weird to me you wanna base the need to play a game purely on ability to have it on max setting but guess to each his own.

Anyhow like you said your right just seems weird to meimage

You dont need a BIG PC to play EQ2

    AMD Thunder Bird 1200 MhZ
    Asus A7266-E motherboard
    1024 MB DDR PC-2100

in 1600*1200 with no problem (medium Configuration.)

    Why have a big computer imageimageimageimageimageimageimageimage :P :P :P

Anyways I will be upgrading it soon to:

    AMD 64 3500+ 939
    Abit AV8-3rd eye Motherboard

It seems to me players with Geforce cards are having much worse performance than ATI users.

    My setup -

    AMD 64 3200+
    1.5 gig 3200
    Radeon x800pro
    Audigy 2

    my settings -

    High slider defaults
    Water High
    Textures Max
Shadows - all off except basic ground shadows
    Draw distance 600
    1280x1024 resolution

I can honestly say that with the above settings my game never suffers from graphical lag, unless
    I'm in Qeynos. I'm talking about 30fps + consistently.

Key settings that helped me without affecting visual costs too much were :

Draw distance - anything above 600 slows my game down considerably, especially outdoors. You don't need a humongous dd anyway.

Maximum Triangle density- Turn this slider all the way to the left. Its found under Model quality settings, but I've found NO quality drop in visuals from turning it off.

Environment Cube Map Updates - Set this to fastest (water settings) It doesn't affect the visuals in any major way, just alters the way reflections are calculated.

Maximum Particle Size - Set this slider to the half way point or 3/4. Nothing worse than major lag because of lingering spell effects.

Complex Shader Distance - VERY important setting. At default HIGH settings, this was just too much for my machine in cities. Set this to no higher than 35, and you should see a great increase in performance.

Bloom Effect - Some say this can cause a memory leak when used, but I have never been affected by having it on. Its more of a visual preference anyway, I guess.

Widescreen Letterbox - Surprisingly, I got an enormous boost while having this turned on, set somewhere in the middle. If you're gonna use it, I recommned a reasonably high screen resolution (1280x960 or over)

Thats about it - just a note for ATI users.I recommened the 5.02 cats for EQ2. Its the official latest driver the EQ2 devs reccommend, and the newer drivers seem to make the game run sluggish.

    Hope this may help! ::::01::
