Where should I "Pre Order" from?

Heyo, I've never done a pre-order online for a game. I've heard some people are having issues with certain distributors, so I'm wondering; which place is the best? :)

I suggest you wait to make that decision.   This presale was only just announced and the game likely won't even be released prior to December.  You may consider waiting the month of August to see what new information unfolds and what other sales options exist.    Personally, I like Amazon because they don't charge until the game ships leaving one free to cancel prior to then should they change their mind.  I can't find this game as an option on Amazon USA at the moment.

Always had great dealings with Amazon, not so much with gamestop but to each their own.

    The following statement is false
    The previous statement is true

  • might want to check here: http://www.swtor.com/preorder

if you click on the pre-order now button you can see a list of who has pre-orders in what countries

edit: incase you are unfamilar with it, Origin is EA's digital store and is the only place to do digital downloads for TOR.  you can also get physical copies from it too.

I just looked into the Origin Store, I don't see TOR anywhere in the store as an available pre-order/purchase. :(

EDIT: It's not available in the client store, however it is available on the web store. :)

Walmart..Amazon..Target. Never had a problem with those three. Like one of the posts before mine....I have no luck with Gamestop...always some kind of problem.  Amazon is good if you want to have time to reconsider but still have yourself set up otherwise. The larger price makes me want to pay for it now and not charged at the time of shipping. Keep it out of sight and out of mind until it releases. With my luck..if I use Amazon this time....the day it get's charged to my account will be the same day I have a financial emergency and end up getting an overdraft..lol.

I'm in the same boat, definitely don't want that $35 fee on my account because of a silly game. :P

Literally instant. I just cancelled mine from GAME as they aren't getting their codes until next week and pre-ordered from Amazon instead. The pre-order code was in my email seconds later.

    Dude, go with Amazon 100%.

I preorderd mine and literally got an email INSTANTLY with my preorder code. I got my "thanks for your order" and "here is your preorder code" at the same time.

Amazon rules with shipping games on time, too.

I went with Amazon. I don't know about Walmart or Target as far as cost but I don't have to pay for tax and have free 2 day shipping. I got the early access code right away and haven't been charged anything yet. I figured I'd rather be safe than sorry.

If you are outside NA or the countries in EU with access you will not be able to order through Origin (so this applies to Asia, Australia, Africa, S.America). The best choice is Amazon if you are in this circumstance.

Amazon is giving out codes within seconds of the order completed (literally, seconds). If you put the code up through the website then the game appears on your Origin downloader very quickly (minutes). So the hardest thing to do is to have to pay the postage and handling.

Have some more patience. Origin is a small store (compared to Amazon, Steam, or such) and they're now getting huge amount of pre-orders. Because the early access is not going to begin for months, it's not a problem right now if they take some time processing your order.

I pre-ordered through origins for the Digital Deluxe edition and recieved my confirmation in under 2 minutes. If you are wanting to buy a collectors physical set I wouldn't wait too long. They anounced that there will be a limited amount of pre-release products available and one portion through origins was sold out in hours. I'm not sure how many the other distributers where given for pre-orders so there may still be alot to go. There may be alot more released closer to release date but I think the restrictions are to control the amount of players that have access to end beta access.

This is speculation on my part but it would make sense. They have also stated that there will be beta weekends available in September for people on their official beta testers list from their site. But they never really went into details for the time period between then and release which is slated for the holidays. If there isn't a fully open beta before release it would make sense that there would be for all the pre-orders.

I did the Digital Deluxe (2 copies, one for me and one for my wife), through Origin, and got my code in less than a minute on both.

I ordered two copies of the CE.  One from Best Buy and one from Gamestop.  I didn't get my "codes" until the next business day when they processed the order (one of the bummers about living in Hawaii and being 6 hours behind EST is by the time I see things, businesses are closed), but that was no big deal to me.

AND if you find it cheaper, you can submit the cheaper number to Amazon and try to get a price match.  Amazon does that low price gurantee so if someone tries to put it on a super sale right before launch, you may be able to get them to match.  Never hurts.

Amazon doesn't/hasn't failed me on any recent game releases.  They ALWAYS get me the codes they promise (unlike Gamestop or Best Buy).  My games always show up on time.  I'm not advocating go Amazon over a brick-and-mortar but as far as online purchases go, Amazon is king in my eyes.

Ultimately, we have no idea if Bioware is going to offer any OTHER preorder specifics from individual sites.  If they offer a double-uber-lightsaber of white from Best Buy there will be plenty of gnashing of teeth from people who happen to want that particular setup.  Especially since Bioware confirmed that if you want specific gear you're going to have to sacrifice stats for looks.

And he/she does mean instant. I have never had issues with Amazon. I have ordered many items from them and I have always been pleased.

I ordered my CE from Best Buy for store pick up (because I'm moving soon and it's just easier that way) and got the code almost immediately.  However they DID charge my account right away which I was not expecting.  It clearly state that the account will not be charged until the game is available in store.  I'm going to call today and see if I can hash it out with them.    The only reason I used Best Buy was because Amazon was sold out at the time.   As of right now (0900 EST) Amazon has more in stock so I would choose there.  I haven't heard anything bad about anyone ordering the game through there.  There's a whole thread on how bad Gamestop is so I'd read that before considering them.

Pre-ordering a game that doesn't even have a release date - no thanks.

I'm sick of these companies wanting my cash up front. This is one of the ONLY industries where this happens and it is also one of the only industries where once you have bought something digitally it is near impossible to 'return' it.

It's a shame so many people will pre order this as it just paves the way for every other publisher to do the same thing.

  • MillbargeMillbarge Member Posts: 46

FYI, Best Buy will charge your account every 8 days until the game comes out.  It doesn't actually post it's just pending.  It's their way of verifying the money is there.  Probably not bad on a credit card but it can play havoc with your checkbook if you're using a debit card.  I cancelled that really quick and went with Amazon.  You know it's a bad policy when the customer service rep at Best Buy says "Yeah, I don't blame you." LOL
