On the contrary, UO is quite alive, just not in the *legal way. I know of several player run servers pushing 1000+ player average on at once. In fact, there is one player run server boasting it can support 10,000 clients at once. They recently reached a peak of 4000 clients on at once with minimal lag. That is OSI quality my friend. I originally posted the server name but then realized thats bannable .
But hey, you are just trying to frustrate some UO players by posting random, incoherrent, ignorant, and completly invalid comments. So go on with your kiddy ways...
* I saw how the admins illustrated it is a copyright infringement to host or play on player run servers, but is this really the case? I know OSI TRIED to enforce their so called copyrights, but failed in every case I have heard of. I remember one notorious battle between OSI and a player run server that will remain unnamed, and OSI was unsuccesfull. A PC Gamer magazine even had an article about the player run server and its situtaion.
With hundreds of proffesionally run servers being around for 5+ years, with player bases breaking 500+, with absolutly no legal ordeals, I am a little skeptical.
So has OSI asked MMORPG to enforce policys prohibiting advertisment of player run servers? Either way I dont care. I'm just curious.

One the birght side, I can take comfort in knowing I'm not a message board troll that posts topics based on no facts at all, for the sole purpose of making someone angry, then running away because I can't back up my statements. Man, I would hate to spend my life like that.
I have never understood why people come to other games boards to flame and cause problems. If you do not like the game, do not play it. Do you really think anyone who plays UO really cares about anything you think?

It is an extremely grey area. On one hand it is not piracy. You have to buy the game from EA in order to play on the player run shards. You have to buy the expansions if the server run shard has the expansions if you want to play on a player run shard. They are not coppying the game. Instead they are adding support for the game that you buy from EA that allows you to play it without support from OSI. Does that mean that every independent company that gives online support instead of the developer is coppying the developer and is committing a crime.
To the best of my knowledge you can not copyright the internet and actually have it enforcable. You can however copyright the game. That means if someone was sending you a copy of the game and allowing you play without buying the game from EA that would be piracy but free shards don't exactly do that. They simply offer you a connection that isn't ran by EA and I don't see where that is against the current laws.
