CE and gamestop

ThodraThodra Member UncommonPosts: 444

Today i decided to go down and order the CE from gamestop in Denmark. Ordered for myself, girlfriend, and brother. First he gave me a standard copy. I went back and asked, why this isent saying CE, just saying star wars the old republic, and when i look up the key, it says SWTOR standard edition. He said it's the only key they had, and i would get the CE when the game release. The pre order is always standard edition. I called another gamestop shop. They said, The cover NEED to say Star Wars The Old Republic: Collectors Edition, Even the code should say it

I went back to the gamestop shop, and he said sorry, he made a mistake, and gave me the real copies.

So to everyone, dont accept it, if the game just say star wars the old republic. I've read a few posts from people, who dont understand the CE code, says standard edition. Go down and complain

Yeah, this is probably due to them not receiving enough useful information from the suppliers. It happens a lot. I work in the hobby game retail business, and lack of useful information is exceptionally common.

So if you get this problem, go easy on the retail staff, because they're probably doing their best with what they have. :)

I wish to say this, if it doesn't say collector edition on the website when you put in the code then it is not the collector's edition, it' doesn't just magically change from the standard edition to the collectors edition.

The guy who is telling you this is dead wrong. I bought mine at Gamestop as well but apparently i got the collectors edition right from the start. As in i put in the code and it said right away registered for the collectors edition.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

Just got back from Gamestop after preordering the CE edition. When they handed me the reciept I noticed there was early access code on it I immediately complained and Gamestop employee mentioned to me that for some reason the codes are not printing on the CE edition pre orders at the store. However he did give me a code anyway but after registering it's only for the standard edition.

dont register it! you can see what edition it is before you register it. It HAS to say STar wars the old republic collectors edition. If games tells you otherwise, its lie, if u register standard edition, you will get bstandard edition

I Pre Ordered the CE from gamestop and everything worked out fine. The early access code is on the receipt though like he said, and when I registered mine on the SWTOR website, it said CE not Standard.

If Gamestop doesn't fix it, I would contact BioWare and explain your situation.

The issue was with some of the codes that were given to Gamestop.  Bioware is aware of the issue and knows the codes that were affected.  They gave confirmation to GS that they would be able to fix the mistake on their end and to let customers know not to worry.

    ** Update **

After reading through tons of pages of the Gamestop Preorder thread on the official SWTOR site forums I learned that the pre-order codes all offer the same thing despite what version you preorder (Which is early access and the color crystal.) The only thing that is different is the edition it says you ordered. Also confirmed by another poster on their forums that contacted Bioware was that the perks for the CE are not activated until you bind your CD key to your account from the retail box after you purchase. The extra goodies are not included in the Pre-order CE Early Access code just the color crystal and early access.

So basically if you got a standard edition code after ordering a CE version there isn't anything to worry about you'll still get all the extras when you plug in the CD Key from the retail box.

I had (and am still having) issues with my Gods and Heroes CE pre-order through Amazon, so I went with Gamestop for the CE pre-order of SWTOR.

Gamestop failed miserably with the pre-orders and pre-order codes for SWTOR. I sent an e-mail directly after ordering (21st), asking for the pre-order code - standard "we received your e-mail..blah blah blah....someone will contact you within 24 hours" response.

The following day (22nd), I contacted Gamestop Texas headquarters and was told the codes for everyone who ordered online the 21st would be e-mailed out by the end of business day on the 22nd. Others were being told they would be sent on Saturday, and others reported that they were told Monday (same Texas headquarters - different eta's).

The crazy part of the whole thing, people who were pre-ordering theirs online and/or in the store on the 22nd were getting their codes and getting them entered  the same day - but people who had pre-ordered online a day sooner, were still waiting. Given the fact the codes are being used to determine an order for entry into the game, it was a bit dissapointing (and bad business as far as I'm concerned).

Anyway - when Amazon ran their second batch, I pre-ordered with them. It took about an hour and I was sent the code (the correct CE pre-order code) and got it entered.

I canceled my Gamestop pre-order and followed up with an e-mail to them stating that the order was canceled and why (additional proof that I canceled, as you always get a "we received your e-mail regarding blah blah blah issue" and will respond within 24 hours- response) - to add to the automated cancelation notice. An hour and 5 minutes after my cancelation, they sent me a code, with a great big notation on it that once the code was sent via e-mail, I could not cancel the order and would be charged.

I forsee a charge by Gamestop and a dispute with my cc company in the future.   It was just too - "oh crap, lost another order, hurry up and get a code out!"

Im not sure if gamestops in other countries use the same SKUs for their inventory...

but the SKU for the US gamestop CE code is 500750.

the store i went to had NO IDEA this code even existed. it came up as "Code, Available" in the system.

Stick to your guns. request this SKU if you buy the CE.

I had the same issue, my wife stopped by and grabbed my CE on day-1 but they did not give her a code.  I got lucky and called the next morning and got someone who know what he was doing and he called me back in an hour and gave me my code.  In the future, I will not be using gamestop for a preorder if there is a code involved.
