There aren't really any farming spots in GW. Most of it is quest based so you never have to farm, which is way I like it so much. The game is continually moving so ya... no farming.
There certaintly are farming spots in GW, and you do have to farm if you want to unlock all the runes. Pretty much anywhere is good, you need to be able to solo the area (no henchmen) and go up against enemies that drop types of armour or hides. Go to the hardest place you can solo and experiment, because farming tends to require pretty specialised builds.
Note: farming is not required to play the game.

PvE in general is pretty lame, if you think long and hard about it. You are spending your time beating a severely gimped AI that would lose to a well trained monkey. Best not to think too long and hard why you are wasting time playing games in general actually...

i would like to think of MMORPG as question answer about basic game. However, if you really want to get some build and some more Guild Wars player help you should go to some fansites fourms of Guild Wars they really do help a lot.
Farming is kinda like killing the same units over and over in some area to get good drops and exp mostly drops yea.
You gotta have some form of sprint, and got to be able to solo 2 level 20? or 24? giants. It's a long run, but it's how I got 95% of the runes i've found...
A.Net claims they're going to be changing how stuff drops, and making PvP more rewarding (unlocking items and such for winning). Hopefully it won't be like D2 1.10 patch ...
If you're looking for Rare weapons/shields/whatever dumb luck has been my best friend.
My favourite spot was the ettins down the road from bettleturn. had 3 superior vigors in 2 hours once...only one salvaged . It's still good for unlocking runes but not anywhere near as good for gold any more since only vigour and absorption are worth anything.

Personally i change my attributes to smite stance and do a run from Bergen hot springs to the Temple of Ages, The holy damage enables a monk to solo mass amounts of undead.
1 orision of healing
2 mending
3 Healing Breeze
4 Judges Insight
5 Signet of Judgment (Elite)
6 symbol of wrath
7 Banishment
8 Holy strike
The general tactic is, Activate mending, Spot enemy group, Run in amongst them and activate symbol of wrath ( all nearby enemies suffer xx damage x5), healing breeze yourself for +10 health regen, then use signet of judgement, AOE holy damage. Considering undead can suffer up to 100% increase in dmg from holy, Anything left standing after these two spells alone will be taken down by holy strike or banishment.
You get 3-5 runes per solo run and always a gold or purple weapon or offhand icon.

i found farming usefull olso to see where i can solo , no hench , nothing
how many can i kill ...
this makes me adjust my skill build to the most eficient ...
and have notion of my real solo power.
dont farm much tho .. after a while i always get some invite for something and just go with the flow.

Outside port sledge (which I call Port Sludge).
I take 3 henchmen.
This is where I got my superior runes and some lightning damage weapons.
