FFxiv was a fail,Dcuo was good but very very sort with lack of content and customization and finally rift was moderate with bad optimiztion in the graphics meaning that aa and af were ultra unoptimized. Moreover the game had a lot of other flaws plus it was very boring and not fun at all.

I watched some videos from comic con and some Bioware people were making big promises about swtor and if it was not that enough they said we pushed the release date back because ""we do not realeasing crap"".After hearing this i remembered what other studios had say to the crowd about their game and how badly failed.
What if Bioware is full of fake promises too.Are u ever going to trust them on an mmo or for singleplayer games?
And if Swtor fails then what games are u going to look forward to.I think ill stick with diablo 3 and maybe tera.

to b honest i have seen few games state they r gonna b the best. most of the hype is by player base. i dont consider games like conan and rift to b failures. conan has seen a big increase in pop since goin f2p. rift still has a fairly sizable sub base. i understand if u didnt care for rift, ffXIV or even dcuo. but they r still goin and some people actually like em.
i cant honestly have an opinion about swtor till i play it. and anyone who does have an opinion about it without playing beta only has opinions based off of what they want u to see. so to ask suck question is nonsense at this point.

    "I don't believe it."

    "That, is why you fail."

Bioware believes in this game. EA believes in this game. Millions (probably) of pre-orders believe in this game.

    I believe in this game.

    This game will not fail.

BTW, the only MMOs that fail are the ones who shut down. If the game is still running and people are playing, the game is a success. Companies don't run a game at a loss for too long. Any game that has been running for a while is profitable.

By that very definition, the literal sense, TOR will not fail. Even with a horrible launch, Bioware/EA will make enough $ to keep the game running for years and make profit.

This game will not have a horrible launch. Why? It's Bioware. It's been in development for what, 6 years?

They and EA are throwing so much into this, and Bioware without a doubt has the talent - and with the years of experience behind the UO/DaoC/WAR working on this game as well.

Unpossible chance of failure in a market sense.

The WORST this game could possibly do is NOT be the next WoW, is NOT be the "WoW killer."

It will be a success pretty much no matter what happens, baring of course complete economic meltdown, anarchy, revolution, plague, natural disaster, alien invasion etc.

Unless you're the one receiving the subscription money and paying the developers, success is totally subjective.

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

Then I'll have a  cool looking figurine, a set of 4 star wars themed coasters , one star wars themed key-fob , a  faux journal , a pretty poster and a box.

the worst SWTOR can do is not reaching Wow like subscribers in the long term.

  • GreenHellGreenHell Member UncommonPosts: 1,323

I'm not really sure what failure would mean in this case. I'm pretty sure they will cover development costs off of the box sales and as many SOE games have shown us you can still turn a profit off of a small player base.

Tor is going to be great in my opinion as a fan of both Star Wars and Bioware as well as a long time MMO player. I agree that the worst will probably be not reaching or surpassing WOW subs which is not a criteria for success of the game.

SWTOR cannot fail. Star Wars fanbase is huge, so huge that almost any star wars game will be profitable. There's no doubt that swtor will dissapoint some players, but I predict a very healthy population in the first year after release.

    What if SWtoR fails?..............It won't :)

  • FurorFuror Member Posts: 374

Yea SWTOR's only failure is failure to surpass world of warcraft's 11.4 million subscribers in the long run.

    WE'll see.

All you people have a crystal ball huh?  Well i'm psychic so top that, and my telepathy is telling me that TOR is gonna fail and it's its gonna fail hard.

And i'll be right there laughing when the walls come crashing down.

All this overhyping, this ridiculous 150 dollar CE (that some people are claiming is the standard for MMO CE's ... name which MMO CE was 150 dollars plz thank you, stop adding to this by claiming it is the standard when it is not all you are doing is opening the doors for future companies to pull this same bullsheit)  All the lies about 500 planets or "worlds" in 2025  , it is all doomed to failure because guess what? The game is gonna suck. End of story.

I don't see it failing, at least not like some here proclaim failures. If it were to 'fail', unlike Mythic(who only did MMO's), Bioware can go back to releasing fantastic single player's. I don't think Bioware fans are going to jump ship just because their first plunge into the MMO might not work out. They have other titles and genre they can fall back on unlike Mythic, with which all their marbles were put into WAR, and then they lost all their marbles!! :)

If it fails I would think investors might not want to put that kind of money up again the near future for a game.

People said exact the same thing to blizzard before world of warcraft was released. Look at wow now. In fact they even wrote off blizzard's mmorpg World of warcraft. They said world of warcraft would fail too back then.

    Dont underestimate bioware.

There should be a law against being a rabid supporter of a product then posting stuff like this due to a BS reason like you felt the need to spend 150 on a CE.

I dont think Rift can be called a failure, it might not have lived up to what "some" people wanted but commercially it seems to be a success and critically it has had a good reception.

Dragon Age 2 dissapointed me, especially after I played The Witcher 2 and saw what an RPG could be these days.   BUT and here is the important thing, when I recently went back to DA 2 I realised, it only dissapointed me because of MY expectations and the high standards I had, after playing Fable 3 and enjoying it I went back to DA 2 without any preconceptions and I while not blown away like I was with EVERY other Bioware game I have played, it was still reasonable.

With the amount of Pre-orders likely happening, with the sheer momentum that SW:ToR will have and with their only real competitor (Blizzard) essentially giving up the MMO battle this year I dont see SW:ToR failing.  The feature sets look like things I will like, people who I have talked to who are in Beta have encouraged me with what they have said about the game, more over they are feature sets that a LOT of people will enjoy, certainly enough to ensure ToR is a commercial success.

Critical acclaim is almost a given and I dont see any problem with EA/Bioware/LA Recouping all costs within 3 months tbh.

However if ToR turns out not to be the sort of game "I" personally want to play then I will look into Tera, GW 2 and The Secret World, but I dont hold out much hope of those games, Tera got panned in Korea already even by western press, GW 2 well GW promised the eartth and ended up being a glorified lobby and dungeon server game (yes I am aware not every map was in a "dungeon" but they were all instanced to 4 people) so I dont think Anet have much experience developing an open world (though I will give them the benifit of the doubt and try it because what they did with Gw for a multiplayer co-op game was fun).

The secret world has an interesting premise but funcom have made a trainwreck of MMOs before so we shall see.

Every post you make wants this MMO to fail, you keep screaming for it to end. For what, you obviously don't care about this game, we all get it already, you want everyone to play GW2 because you think its the 2nd coming. Please get over yourself already, and quit trying to get people to conform to your own personal way of thinking, it is very tired out, and you are only making a very bad reputation here. Honestly, what do you care what I or anyone else likes? People have different opinions, and everytime someone expresses it, you bash em and try to get em to conform to your way of thinking! News flash, everyone is different, with different taste's and different opinions! You are only making yourself sound like an idiot, take it however you want, but I will not reply to an obvious troll who only cares about his own agenda!

He cared enough to feel he needed to pay 150 for a CE, look at his SWTOR post history (before the CE/Pre-order announcment), I can't help but LOL.

I'm not attacking the guy, I just want to bring his history to light, as it is highly ironic and gives reason to just ignore him from now on.

SWTOR won't fail. Not at all. Will it break even? Now that's the question. But it won't be a failure.

Failure is always a point of view, I guess. I can't imagine TOR really fails on a larger level. But who can say. I really don't know that it would mean. Maybe nothing. SWTOR is in itself a very unique sort of MMO.
