If you've already started it and its taking hours, just let it finish. It's a pretty fun game, I played it for a few months. You have to get into a good clan though
It's very worth it, this game has heart and soul and TONS of content. If you've never played, you are in for a REAL treat. Great community and an amazing world.
Man I loved that game, played it for a year and a half nonstop when it hit the market. It is no WoW, it is a complex game, it requires some time and effort.... Let the dl finish, you might love it, I did, I just dont have the time to twink my toon who is so nerfed, but I miss flying my yalmaha, that was fun!

AO is a very cool game which I use to play a lot for 2 years. Everyone who is tired of the same old "Elves-Dwarfes-Mages-Yaddayaddayadda"-Setting might love it.
Excellent game. Coincidentally, I just got in the mood for it tonight and loaded it up, after not playing it for a good 8-9 months. As always, it seems, I was amazed at how well this game stands up to everything out there .... *still*. One of the best ever, and undoubtedly the most innovative ... and most complex.

Ya, a game that you won't find a dumb child playing...or a child in general (without help), so less kids. It's dominated pretty much from teens to old people...which is pretty cool.
Yea this game absolutely rocks, really it does. I aways keep coming back to this fantastic game. It amazes me that people say its good for a free game! Cmon, its more polished than most and has a tone more content than the majority of MMORPG's. Oh and its only free for a year.

Anarchy Online is one of the most revolutonary MMORPGs ever made. Many older games, and just about ALL new games are copying from it. If you want to play the originator, the one that started many of the new game features, ideas, that new and some old mmorpgs are copying, check out AO. Plus it has even more revolutionary features that still have not been copied by other mmorpgs. AO and UO are the two mmorpgs that put in the most new, never before done, features in mmorpgs.
And then there's the fact that you can play 1 year for free! The majority of players at the AO forums on this site are helpful. I recommend you pick the easiest character and profession for your first character while you learn the game. The game can be complex, or easy, depending on how deep you want to go. The very deeep parts consist of the most complex form of buffing, surgery, out of every mmorpg out.
- The easiest breed is Atrox, then Solitus, then Opifax. Homo-Nano is the hardest to play as.
- The easiest professions are: Martial Artist (you don't have to buy weapons), then Enforcer, Soldier, Adventurer, Doctor.... the hardest of all is Nano-Technician.
- Whatever you do, do not pick as your first character Homo-Nano Nano-Technician. You will die soo much you will get fustrated. Homo-Solitus Martial Artist, Atrox Enforcer, Atrox Soldier, etc... are NICE first characters to play while learning what can be a complex game.
The AO forums are full of NICE information:
Best area to read up about the various Professions:
Also look up "Nano-Nanny" it is a player made program allowed by the game DEVs. It helps you find missions that have specific items, money, loot, and other valuable stuff, you are looking for.
Next forum to check out when you reach level 20 and are ready for serious hardcore playing:
AO has 3 servers. They used to be called Rubi Ka 1, Rubi Ka 2, and the German server. Now they are Atlantean, Rimor, and the German server ( ). It does not matter which one you play on, or if your character is male/female (female character has no negatives for being female.) I played AO hardcore for 1 solid year. Now I play on and off. I even started a new free account to see what it is like to play as a brand new character. AO has gotten a heck of a lot better than before!
Max level is 220 if you get Shadow Lands, otherwise 200. As for starting profession, get solitus or opifex martial artist. While atrox has more hps, you will find yourself more then often going nuts trying to cast that new nano or buff. Nanomage is just generally a bad choice for martial artist. Also, while enforcer seems to be easy enough at first glance, it's a complex profession. It fills the role of a tank in a team/raid and you need to be very good with agro management. Otherwise, the usual scenario will be: doc dies, you die, the rest of the team dies.

When I first saw your name, I wondered if you played AO. But you said that you constantly played Horizons, so I assumed not ;P
Anyways, I loved AO when I started. Own all 3 expansions, reactivate my account every so often.
Agreed. My favorite guild ever www.tbhguild.org I played AO with, have not gamed with them in a couple of years, fun times though. I just dont have the time to devote to this mmorpg, but I miss it strangely, the music, the adult community, leets wearing santa hats at christmas, pumpkin heads, hunting cyborgs, 20k, four holes... sighs....... lol, I did enjoy that game, and they keep your account active forever it seems...

Btw, i just updated my AO after been wasting time on GuildWars and reading some if it insinuates AO will become permanently free?. For example:
You now get something called "Veteran" points , and Veteran shops in the game. You earn veteran points based on the MONTHS you PAID for the game. I see more and more perks being build into the game if you actually do subscribe. I don't really have a problem with it, i think it is quite an ingenious way of reeling subscribers in as opposed to other MMORPGs that only gives you a "time-trial". In the end, i can't see why they will do all this if they do not plan to keep the freebies (or froobies) around :P

I find it to be just like all the other mmorpgs out there except that it has a sci fi setting.
It is good for a free game.

AO is definitely one I'd keep among the top three ever.

Thanks for the advice people this must be a very good game.
I didn't like the game, but they give you free year or so, come on, you won't get a better deal.
