I did not take this thread offtopic. Everytime I bring it back on topic, someone else takes it off. All I did was ask for opinions IF people would be receptive to a new Mourning. A handful said yes, and quite a few of you decided to question the whole merits of the company I work for. That was NOT what this topic was about. For whatever reason, some of you think I'm Dave. How about I get a staff member from here to prove my IP doesn't even come from the same REGION as Dave, nevermind same state. Wait, wait, I know what you'll say. IP addresses can be spoofed. I'm fully aware of that, and if I really wanted you all to have all my private information, I'd produce a copy of my ISP bill. However, even if I did that, some of you would go to the lengths to say I was dumpster diving. To be honest, there's no pleasing some of you. As for my comments about a community, it's not a bad thing to say that. Seriously. At least I'm open an honest about the fact that we don't want a lot of immaturity. Our boards will not be run like we're a bunch of self-righteous, never-do-wrong group of people. But at the same time, we're not going to sit there and listen to some people say that we're not a "real" company, or that we're just a spoof for Dave to get interest back in Mourning. For all I care, that game can shutdown tommorrow, and Dave can go bankrupt. It'd not affect me in the least, nor would I shed a tear. If there was a way I could prove I'm NOT associated with Limitless Horizons, please, tell me. Everything I've said and done so far hasn't made you happy, so tell me what would satisfy your high standards? We all know the internet has ridiculous amounts of ways to make yourself anonymous, so I suppose there's nothing I could do to make some of you happy.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA oh man... thats funny. Sorry i dont mean to be rude, its just that you are taking this so seriously.
Dude, whoever you are, the reason no one believes you is because we've seen WAY to much ... weird stuff... from the mourning devs. hahah so i really wouldnt be surprised if your posts werent just some new scheme of theirs. you talked about "good or bad publicity" before... well theres the effects of the "bad" kind.
**EDIT* on a constructive note, you asked us what you could do to prove to us youre not part of LLH. Well dude, just stop waisting your time here - get working on the game you talk about - and give us a good mmorpg.

Tommorrow the finishing touches will go on the design documents, and will go to my boss for approval. If approved, we'll file for a copywrite, and begin work pretty soon after that.

Brian I didn't meant that you brought the thread off topic. What I meant is that you should have expected this kind of reactions from a topic like this. In particular when you keep postponing the date of the official announcement everytime, for different reasons.
Also you will notice that at the beginning 95% of the people did support you. But you can't keep people supporting you when you say something and nothing materialises. This is starting to stink, and if it smell badly usually something is dead.
Anyway, I will refrain to make any other comments for the time being. I will give you a couple more weeks, because I am not really in a hurry to play Mourning anyway.
Just remember, the more you reply with broken promises the less people will respect you. So in this case the best thing to do is to say nothing, until you have something more concrete to show.

I could buy the whole "complete buy out" story, but the idea of 2 companies running the same game is a bit wonky...
This kind of practices are quite common in business software like operationg systems (e.g. Unix, MS-DOS, OS/2....) and database (MS Sql Server). You just buy more or less full rights to software at certain and continue independent development after fork. It is really only a make or buy decision.
However, this thread is very amusing. Brian has lots of "interesting" ideas how this kind of deal will be carried out.
Anyone thinking that this thread is actually started by some anti-mourning guy to raise rumors about closing up the original Mourning and thus alieanating remaining players from Mourning? Not that this kind of thread would be required for that end...
I could very well be any of the choices. It could be Dave, or somebody Dave hired to play this little game(IP s mean nothing. I can use a proxy and I'll show up in Romania). It could be some anti-mourning guy. It could be someone just playing joke. It could be a legit guy looking for to buy the game, but found out that it was worth more then he though. Or It could be a legit guy buying the game.
When will you have your "paper" proof or somesort of docs? I'm starting to doubt this greatly, these buying techinques are just unheard of.

I am not the one who's negotiating the rights of Mourning. That'd be the owner of the company. I can only pass on what gets told to me. At first, he told me we'd have the rights last tuesday, and it's since changed several times, and at this point, I just assume say forget it, save the money, and use a proprietary engine, or one of the quality commercial ones (unreal2, unreal3, Realmcrafter, etc.) Since we're a small company right now, we don't have multiple vice presidents and such. We're a group of artists, programmers, and writers who are trying to do something which hasn't been done in a while. Our goal is to produce a AAA quality game. We felt at first that we could take Mourning and transform it into something everyone wanted, but instead, we're going to go with the original project we intended on making when the company was formed. The whole idea of remaking Mourning was born from the fact that several staff members loved the concepts and hated the execution. The owner being one of them. We also knew if we were to create an MMO from scratch, even using a commercial engine, it'd be at LEAST a year before we'd have a beta ready, and to be honest, since we're all working in our spare time at the moment, no one wanted to go that long without a commercial product. Most of us want to bring a game out sooner, so we can quit our day jobs, move into an office building (rather than being spread across the US like we are now), and make games full-time.
As for your anti-Mourning comment, I personally have not played it. There was no desire on my part to go ahead and pay to play a beta. If I wanted to do that, I'd pay for a subscription to Fileplanet. It could be a great game, or a horrible game, I personally do not know. I can only go on what's been told to me.

We were NOT BSing you at all. We'll still get the rights to Mourning and gut the engine. At this time we're unsure. Everything I told you was as I said. If you wanna sit here and flame me, do it in a PM to me, and don't take this offtopic. Ignorant people like you should have their internet disconnected. Most people like you are kids who have nothing better to do than flame those who don't share your opinions, or who you think aren't telling the truth. Grow up before you post again please. Thanks.
Brian in under a week is already starting to abuse, allienate and flame gamers. That comment damn well made you sound like it was only an idea and your going with an orginal product instead of Mourning. You honestly are starting to sound worse then Dave.
Stop critiquing the Mourning Devs, as you are just as unprofessional. Not only do you abuse people, make mislead comments, flame, have a "suck my balls" comment, and post werid SOE sigs.

I abused noone. Someone flamed me, I told told them to grow up. How the hell is that abuse? As far as the devs go, I stated I could care less what they do. If I was posting as a representative of my company (which many, many times I've stated I'm not) then yes, I'd be acting unprofessional. As for Mourning itself, it was more than an idea. We had the whole project planned out, but have decided against it, as there's just no way to beat the negative press about the game, no matter what we do. I removed the SOE sig, as somehow people were offended by it. Apparently, some people felt it was a bit over-the-top. My point is, I posted this thread as a GAMER, not as a representative of my company, and as such was done on my own time, with my own curiousity being satisfied. For 2 weeks now, we've debated the merits of the project internally, and my posts have been questioned by my boss. He understands that I did it on my own, and not as a representative of the company, but about 3 of you think I am. At this point, I'm compeltely done posting in this thread, as NOTHING will come of it. I will start another thread another time discussing the game we're creating, once everything is finalized and protected by copyrights, and if we go with a proprietary engine, patents.
Professionals don't make comment like "suck my balls" and " Ignorant people like you should have their internet disconnected." That is what one calls flaming. All bitey point out is that seem to be saying it is a idea instead of a done deal.Your comments are misleading, it went from a almost finished deal to a idea.

Actually the deal IS almost done still. If you read carefully, you'd see that I said we'll probably gut the engine, and scrap the rest. As for my comment about ignorant people, it's a simple fact, and I said it becaise Bitey took the time to call me a too. Anyways, sorry if you felt mislead, but I think you just did pay enough attention to this thread, or you just didn't care to read the whole thing, because you were seriously misinformed.

That makes it kinda clear, brian here has no idea what is going on.
Your going to fit right in at Mourning Brian, you have the exact same attitude as everyone so far involved with the game (Natty excluded).

Brian, Mourning engine (Abyssal engine) is always been on sale for any company to buy, you don't have to buy Mourning rights to get it http://www.realmsofkrel.com/tech.html This is completely different than saying that you are buying Mourning rights. Vanguard bought the rights to use the Unreal Engine, but that doesn't mean that Sigil owns Unreal rights.
Let s be honest for once, your company bought Abyssal engine license, your Company never had in mind to buy Mourning (the game) rights. I truly believe that you were wrong to start this thread, you just wanted to attract a bit of attention, but the situation got out of hands. Please think twice next time before you start a thread like this.

HuH?
"We felt at first that we could take Mourning and transform it into something everyone wanted, but instead, we're going to go with the original project we intended on making when the company was formed."
That makes it kinda clear, brian here has no idea what is going on.

I will stand by my statement about Brian:
He's unprofessional, uncouth and he's a liar. I don't buy that he's associated with any company whatsoever. In my opinion this thread is some narcicistic attempt by him to get attention.

This is completely different than saying that you are buying Mourning rights.
And good luck with your new game.
Well I guess it worked!!!
