great big SoE market exchange button

How irritating this is such a big part of the game now. I mean yes other companies are doing the same thing- but typically they're free ones not paid ones. I mean do you see WoW with a button in joining 'here pay for items!!'.

If mmorpgs are going to go this route- they really ought to look at League of Legends. Where what you can buy has absolutely no bearing on gameplay- nor ruins gameplay. Perhaps SoE should take a big look at them.

I tried to return to Everquest when they offered these 45 days of compensation after being a while away. The whole item shop thing killed it for me - you can even buy exp potions in the shop, and it seems to be normal to do so nowadays. I guess I am done with SOE games now forever, that was just too much negativity around the company now.

When you have a 15 year old game (yes counting development) you have to find new ways to generate revenue and frankly if people buying xp potions helps keep the game alive im all for it.  Nothing in the marketplace has any effect on a players power or ability to do stuff in game.  You cant buy something and all of the sudden be better than someone who didnt buy it.

    Really?  Wow.

I've been playing only for a week again, using the 45 free days.  I did notice the button, it is about twice as big as the text font in the game so around 16 point or so - about 1 1/4 cm  or 1/2 an inch high and wide..

It is the same size as the EQ button used for options and the same size as all the skills buttons.  Since I put the SC and EQ button to the far corner where I put all the control buttons in my games I have not noticed it one tiny little bit.

edit - I'm sure they have other things.  However when I looked at that on the first day, the only things I really saw were fluff items - new graphics shiny for swords and shields, pets and companions...

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it is bad.

true on the xp potions- if people do not want to buy that. But as to revenue- this is the subscription fee! to a 10+ year old game. They are incredibly lucky there are people still willing to pay for that! I think if they're going to make station exchange a crucial component of the game they really ought to complete the gesture and turn this free.
