According to a new interview with EA's Frank Gibeau, he indicates that Star Wars: The Old Republic has scored the most pre-orders of any game in the company's stable. While unwilling to be specific about any date for the game's release, Gibeau said that September should clear the murky film on EA's crystal ball enough to schedule an official release.
The company is hoping to appeal to lapsed World of Warcraft players, said Gibeau, which make up a good part of what EA sees as a healthy MMO market, though admittedly one that is hard to track.
While a launch date has not been set for Star Wars: The Old Republic, an announcement is expected to be made around September, according to Gibeau.

Sooo, an announcement about an upcoming announcement. Cool story.
Smart aleck! Besides, how many times do I actually get to write "announcement of the announcement of..." in this job?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm announcing my excitment for the announcement of the upcoming announcement
Well,
It certainly (looks) like an announcement about an anouncement.
I, for one, welcome our new announcement of the announcement overlords.
*Prediction* Nov. 21st Hopefully sooner, but to me it seems EA will give there Battlefield 3 title a solid month before launching another game, which would just continue the flow of revenue.
i feel a gamegasm coming on....
So the game will not be released September. Got it.
I for one would like to announce my announcement of my feelings towards this announced announcement at a date that is to be announced.
I announce i will be excited when they announce the release date.
The game will likely be released somewhere around November, is what I'm guessing.
""The company is hoping to appeal to lapsed World of Warcraft players""
Aand, whatever interest this game might even garner, vanishes instantly...yet again.

I thought the release date was 12/31/11? That's whats listed on all the sites I could order it from.
I am pleased to see this announcement of the Bioware's announcement that they will announce a release date.
Announcement... isn't that just a funny-looking word? It is basically An+noun+cement. Who created this crazy English language anyhow....
Bio is smart more hype more ppl get intreasted equal more players.
No studio, publishing to US gamers, with a right mind would release a major game such as this the same week of Thanksgiving. No developer would have any days off that week, which is a big morale buster.
My guess is more like Nov 2nd.

That was waaaaaay to analytical for my liking, Talin. Haha! *feels self starting to ponder the meaning of life*
EA is going to try and milk the CE and Deluxe edition hype for all its worth.
I wonder where they are going to make their annoucement at since PAX Prime is Aug 26th-28th... the release date is going to be on Black Friday just to spite me.
An announcement within an announcement within an announcement? Inception.
I find this lack of a real announcement... disturbing.
I'll take this one, guys!
First of all, I enjoy your work so don't take this as any sort of offense.
Secondly, the answer to your question is.... pretty much for any upcoming MMO.
This is how the developers or publishers generate hype at a stage where they need to build or continue momentum. And you should know all of this already. :P
I have an announcement!
Okay, I am done. Thats SWTOR

So funny all these people thinking the game is no big deal, these are the folks that just do not have a grip on how many sci-fi / star wars fans are out there, either a they have not been paying attention or b they are to young to truely understand. the star wars name alone will make this thing huge.
