good read. ive recently just started playing EVE again and this is a side of the game i still have not experienced. im gonna do it one day though
If someone is talking in general chat in a language you dont understand, chances are they're not talking to you. So chill out and stop bitching about it!
Very fun article that was well written. I look forward to more.
I also look forward to laughing at the bitter vets and ex-EVE players who post negative comments. Keep'em coming guys. It's always entertaining to read posts from people who can't let go of a game that they hate.
They can adjust a game all day, but they can't help the issue between the keyboard and the chair. Played: UO, DAoC, AC, WoW, EVE, TR, WAR, Aion, Rift, SWTOR, GW2, TSW, ESO, Elite:D Play EVE for free for 21 days
I have not played EVE in ahwile. But it seems that it has become a pollitical MMO? if so Why? If I am wrong I do apolagize. It just seems that games are just that are ment to be fun. I guess Drama in a MMO is fun for some?
Really? I'll bite.
It's called player made content. The devs at CCP have given players the tools to make their own content. By your statement I am pretty you never played Eve, or you would probably know this.
Articles like this make me excited to try eve online, but then I look at how much time it would take to sit & learn enought to give it a red hot go and my excitement soon fades unfortunately.
as a person who witnessed a lot of this firsthand (first as a member of -42- which didnt survive the fade/pb fubar and now as a member in a clusterf*ck coalition alliance) i thought it was a pretty good read.
keep em up Tree and remember, haters gonna hate.
RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed.
Darkfall Online - Although its going through a peroid of re-lease with Darkfall 2.0 due soon. But yea its Eve Online in a World of Warcraft style world where players control city's and hamlets and build them up with resources and fight over with other massive alliances. Iv been in battles in Darkfall that were 300 vs 300, absolutly insain, too bad that game died off within 6 months to small 75 vs 75 battles but hopefully its re-release will bring that game back early next year.
Graphics are not much to go by, buts it is the gameplay that counts. New graphics are to be updated in Darkfall 2.0
EvE does sound worthy of being called epic. It's on my very short list of games to try soon.
remember the magic words to trying eve for the first time:
magic word 1) patience
magic word 2) research
magic word(s) 3 ) Eve University
not necessarily in that order...

have been playing eve for 3 years and can say that eve is not so good as it was in the beginning. It was fun, it was freedom. now all is gone. it is not a sandbox anymore. guess ccp wants to make wow in space.

Because CCP knows that in order to compete with ToR they better make the first move.
Unfortunatly lag was probably the winner in the end. 0.0 is so f**ked with the 200 man super blobs, retarded lag, and the lame east Vs west powerblocks. Mine as well call Cluster F**k "The horde", and Drone Russians "The Alliance".

3 years ago.... the beginning? That's rich. I've been playing for 7 years and even that isn't from the beginning.
How is Eve no longer a sandbox and what freedoms have been taken away?

Im going to go ahead and assume youve never played either EvE or WoW. Ok, maybe WoW.... but definitely not EvE. Hell 3 years ago they were already up to what # expansion in EvE?

It's not about drama, per se. It's about having the ability to directly affect the world in which you play. While themeparkers are fine with the world being the exact same today that it was yesterday that it will be tomorrow, there are a lot of folks who want a world that changes as a direct result of their actions. And not in superficial ways ("This quest/questline is available until X date"), but in ways that are easily discernible. The drama comes from the various machinations used to accomplish those world changes. Sometimes, it's combat focused (like sovereignty changes) and sometimes it's pure espionage (google 'The Mittani' and/or "Band of Brothers"). Now tell me, can you completely take over wide swaths of Azeroth simply by infiltrating and destroying a competing guild from within? Newp!

However I am just looking for a couple of hours of light entertainment when I game not a alternate life that requires way more thinking, planning, and plotting than I want to do. I have to do plenty of that in my real life to find it a pleasurable experiance for my spare time
Yeah, while it's possible to just have a simple "push lever, get pellet" experience with EVE, it's not the game's forte.

I call BS. EVE was released in '03. Unless I'm really bad at math (and I'm not) or have fallen into a time warp (and I haven't), you haven't been playing from "the beginning" if you've been playing for 3 years. As far as EVE not being a sandbox, as someone upthread mentioned, I've made significant amounts from the various war efforts whose spikes in demand trickle throughout the game. In fact, one of my favorite features of Captain's Quarters is how I can just sit there and watch where the major conflicts are occurring to figure out how to draw more ISK from them.
And for the uninitiated, EVE does not and will not compete with TOR. How the most accomplished sandbox MMO on the market competes with the 'themepark on steroids' model of TOR is beyond me. They're two different games that appeal to two different types of gamer. Yes, there's overlap (I fit in that category) but the majority of people who play EVE do so for reasons that don't involve "IP" or "easy mode" or "voice acting". First off, the large number of people who live in nullsec generally love their PvP and in zero sum fashion (the opposite of the "everyone gets a trophy for participating" and "everyone's a winner" model that's proliferated the genre nowadays). TOR will draw from the same pool of players that WoW and Rift did, as well as quite a few SW fan lookie-loos. It's not going to decimate EVE (at least not beyond the free month) and probably won't have any effect on the core playerbase (you know, those people who actually LIVE in nullsec and produce stories like White Tree's?).
There are people who play EVE almost solely due to the potential for IMMENSE space battles (with hundreds of players on the map at once, shooting at each other). There isn't a single MMO on the market that does that right now, except EVE. So with the "haters gonna hate" caveat, let's just say that EVE isn't everyone's cup of tea. Especially given the way the themepark model is spreading like an airborne virus through the genre.
1.) The NC (Razor, MM, etc.. ) died a few months ago. There is no Northen Coalition. In fact Razor and MM the core alliances that made the NC have reset the DC to neutral and moved south to restructure and find "good fights".
2.) Goons, Test, etc are the Dekelin Coaltion or other wise known as the ClusterF**K Coalition but they are in no way part of the NC or considered as the Western NC.
3.) At most there are several thousand not tens of thousand of DC characters (many people have more then one character and dual box).
4.) If the DRF coalition really wanted Dekelin they could take it because they have a crazy amount of super capitals. In other words basically enough that they could out spam the NC who also had more capitals and super capitals combined then the DC and friends. In fact one of the major issue with the game now is the sheer crazy amount of Motherships that major alliances like the DRF or even the DC have in their arsenals.
For those who don't know Motherships are to carriers (regular capital ships) what Titans are to Dreadnaughts(regular capital ships) in the game.
Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.
Conveniently doesn't mention the uselessness of the CSM, how CCP has been caught redhanded in cheating and corruption before, and the lying and backpedaling over the monocle.
It's pretty obvious this is either a paid shill for CCP or a fanboi doing the same for free.

Who cares about these in the heat of the moment when you are crushing your opponent, forcing him into a retreat and claim bragging rights?
Well, maybe you opponent does because he needs excuses for his failure. This eventually leads to their own complete dissolvement.
I know the DRF not is prone to that kind of whimpering or they would have imploded by now like any null sec entity that cannot handle defeat.
