Horizons have dragons...but its players are counted in hundreds nowadays

  • Veiled_lightVeiled_light Member UncommonPosts: 855

Horizons has 10-20k Users today :)

It's alot, but not for a mmorpg!

It's a great game and the only way i see it picking up is if it goes free or SOE buys it!

    Good game tho

It would be cool to have a only dragon playe MMORPG, with a huge map meaning extremelyhigh flying above clouds and fights in mid-air, sending one dragon flying down un-concious throuch the cloud wall onto a nearby town, and the surviving dragon sending a wave of fire balls on the scorched corpse, thats sounds like a well kl game, shame

Horizons allows players to be a Dragon, and it aint no spyro! Dragons in Horizons look badass, and the game is solid now as compared to its launch. There is always someone to play with too and lots of new people even late at nightimage

The trial is free for 7 days here's a link www.Istaria.com try it yourself image

You can play as a Dragon, I have never crashed in over 40 hours of my young carreer(wow I crashed every day). The community is beyond reproach and there are a ton of customization options both for ui, performance and character creation. The music is 100% at the top of the list for all games I have ever played, and I've played them all. Its fantastic.

hmm...the overall idea is pretty cool, this description sounds more like a singleplayer game though.

There is a game in development called Trials of Ascension in which you will have a chance to play a real dragon.  And when I say 'real dragon' I mean that the PC dragons won't be just average PCs that happen to look like dragons.  They will be the most powerful PCs in the game.

The obvious problem with this, of course, is that everyone will want to be a dragon.  So the drawback is that dragons have to start out as the absolutely weakest PCs.  The game also has perma-death after you lose 100 life counters (100 for now but subject to change during development).  So the challenge for would-be dragon players is to survive untill adulthood without perma dying.  The devs have stated that the odds of any given hatchling surviving to adulthood are about 1 in 500, and that's if you don't take into account the actions of other players.  Non-dragon PCs will most likely kill you on sight though so the odds are probably worse than 1 in 500.

It will be a huge challenge to try and survive as a dragon and most people won't make it but the few who do will get to play a dragon that does justice to the dragons of fantasy novels.

Spooky. I was just wondering about the ability to be on the "evil" side. To be the dragon...to be the minions that other players have to fight as they go through a dungeon.

I have no idea how hard it would be to implement or if it would even be viable. But what if your team was given a level of a dungeon. Each player would only have the skills that the normal monsters would have at that level. The other team would have to fight through your level. The less teams that get through your level they higher and more varied skills your team (monsters) would have.

The problem would be always having enough players to want to play the monster side. I guess you could have henchmen like Guild Wars.

I guess what I'm getting at is...people farm dungeons because after awhile you "learn" them, they are not unpredictable. But imagine a dungeon player driven. You'd never know what to expect because people are unpredictable.

It would be neat to realize you stand here-you stand here-you cast this-you spam that wouldn't always work on monster #19243.

As Neanderthal says, look at ToA's dragons at www.shadowpool.com.

Horizons does have playable dragons with dragon attacks and fire breath.  Flight is nice.  However the dragon race there are "shakes like a wet dog" puppies to the other races.  It is very difficult to earn flight as an adult dragon, but easy to be powered through it with non-dragons.  Istarian dragons enjoy lots of lore, but are lore challenged by Hz's game mechanics.

Hz dragons are an afterthought in game design (as evident by their unfinished status), ToA dragons will be real dragons.  The good news is that TulgAE is still working on the race (17 months after release).

Oh, Hz only has about 10k subscribers among its 3 servers (per Sir Bruce at www.mmogchart.com), but I think that is optimistic.

Might I suggest also the single player game I of the Dragon (can't find the site).  The demo was fun, especially eating creatures.

closest game I ever played where you were able to fight other dragons and shoot fire or acid and attack NPC people and such. However it wasnt' a MMORPG, but it had MP, but you weren't the dragon, however you rode the dragon and controlled him as if you were....

I don't remember the name of the game and it never got patched and was given a bad name. Man, can't remember, but was made by a company I think called something like Psynostics or something. Infact after the game was out for a few months their site was gone. No support or anything.

One thing I do remember though was you were a girl and your name was , I think spelled...Rhen and the dragon was Aroc ...Anyone remember it? Was a nice idea to get started, but never seen a game like it ever come out to be better...

OK, did some googling around....I found the game that I was talking about...

Company is Psygnosis and doesn't really have a website, but there is still a fan site and has link to a demo even. But I don't know if it is dead or not. Didn't check. But the game is called Drakan: Order of the flame... If you are interested with messing around with something atleast that is close to what you are looking for... here's the link.
