I just took advantage of some free time they gave me, and invited a friend to play with. We see about 2 other groups in the starting areas, and lots of single people here and there. I have been having a lot of fun leveling and crafting again. Its always better to bring someone with you if possible though.

Well I am not sure about the reg EQ2 servers but the EQX server seems to have a lot of people. Though the game is very restrictive due to it's F2P model, most of the restrictions can be lifted by purchasing what you need. I personally didn't feel like it was a game worth a sub since I really couldn't get past the fact there is no strafe and turn at the same time. Not a huge deal but a game breaker for me since I use the keyboard for moving. Still  the EQX server has a lot of people running around if you wanted to give the game a try.

Yes, people still play. I'm on Everfrost server, which has a fair population, but I've heard Antonia Bayle has the best pop.  As far as the community....I find it very warm as long as you're not a douchebag.  At least OUR server has a low tolerance for people that act like idiots in chat and they won't talk back to them a lot of the time, so...if you're nice....you usually get treated nice back.

Undoubtedly someone will refer you to the free to play version EQ2X....I would discourage that.  An awful lot of annoyances and limitations. I tried playing on that server (Freeport) and couldn't STAND it.  So I went back to pay to play, myself. :)

I recently re-subbed to the station pass for $19.99 and I have been spending most of my time on EQ2. Soooo much to do with adventuring, crafting, housing content.

Antonia Bayle has as strong population of very helpful folks, especially in the crafting channel.

    Cheers!

The sad thing about EQ2 (for it's generation) is it's SO far SUPERIOR to w0w, yet, despite all the money, nevery got the promotion machine w0w did.

I love the game, but last time I checked it was fairly dead.  Played it with a g/f for years; and EQ1 before that.

Don't get me wrong, I've played w0w extensivly too I'm ashamed to say, but it really does pale in content and hell... really even the outdated graphics one both games, EQ is far superior.

I'd like to go back myself, but I'm in such an MMO rut atm, I don't know what to play and don't feel like coming back to a dead game.

    UGH MMO burnout.

THese next gen's need to hurry up and come up.  Rift was nice but, bleh... just more of the same thing.

Maybe you looked at the wrong server; I've been playing extensively and EQ2 is anything but dead.  The Extended server is booming and there's plenty going on on AB; even at low and mid levels I see folks around.  At about 5 pm this last sunday (a couple of hours before prime time,) six servers were at heavy population, not just AB.

There was some cruft that got cleaned away with the server meges late last year and early this year; everywhere I've been I've seen a very active game.

yep, eq2x has lots of people if you are just interested in doing lowbie stuff and don't care about things like gear, endgame and progression.  if you DO care about those things, then you want to be on live server.  i'm on Crushbone and there are tons of people, always multiple PQs (public quests at lvl 90) and instances going.

On CB, there are more than 10 active raid guilds raiding current content and even more if you count the 10-crew raid alliance and smaller guilds doing 2-group stuff.

EQ2flames has a list of Freeport (eq2x) guilds killing DOV raid mobs

The EQ2X server seemed pretty populated when I tried it. I hated all the restrictions of the f2p model so I went back to Butcherblock and have been happy ever since. The population is pretty good, mainly a ton of high levels, but I havent had a problem getting a group together each night to run low level content.
