Release Tomorrow in JP! Buying it!

baritone3kbaritone3k Member Posts: 223

It's against the rules to play the Korean one if you are not Korean. It's not against the rules to play the Japanese version if you are in the US, right?

I have only done this for one other game ever - Soul Calibur 2 for the Gamecube. It came out months before the US release, and I couldn't wait. So I shelled out he exta bucks and LOVED it!

Anyone else getting the JP version of TERA tomorrow?

Someone please make a good MMO.

But won't you have trouble reading it? I don't feel it would be worth the trouble =/

You might want to check on that. I have a strong feeling that you'll still be IP blocked. Playing an online game is not quite the same as importing a console game.

There is no ip bock for the Korean either. It just requires a KSSN (Korean Soc Sec #). Any Korean citizen with a billing address in Korea can play even if they are overseas, etc.

As for being able to read it, I am not worried. It's an MMO. It's about combat.

The Japanese version of Tera was IP blocked for the closed beta, and I don't see that changing for the open beta or release since they block IPs to just visit the japanese website.

^^THIS is why MMORPGs have been failing of late.  MMOs are NOT about combat.  It's a big part for sure, but NOT the sole focus.  Go play God of War or CoD for just combat games.  Stop ruining our genre with your combat only views.

It completely takes away from the experience so imo it is completely not worth the trouble. The western players that maxed out in K-TERA are a special kind of breed. To not care beyond combat and eye-candy (everything else in there).

I deliberately stopped playing once I was satisfied with what I had (superficially) experienced of the game.

Says the one who bought Rift and will probably buy SWTOR.

Please, stop buying CASUAL wow clones, stop killing the genre.

Tera has more depth, sandbox elements and features that all your wow clones will ever dream off.

    Tera has:

    Politics

    Instanced and open World Dungeons

    Open World Bosses

    Territorial control

    Clan Wars

And in the next patch, it will have Rifts and Server VS Server PVP

    Hahahhahah!

Not enough water in the pool for both of us?

QUESTION: What is TERA's claim to fame?

    ANSWER: Revolutionized MMO combat!

TERA is about the combat. As much as a mystical magical unicorn farting rainbows (sorry that was Red Faction armageddon).  As much as some douchenerd sitting in his little state-sponsored box writing the outline for a conflict just feeble enough to support a beautiful, quirky and somewhat childish world may inspire some people to read every quest, it isn't too important for me. Not for TERA.

If I want stories, I will read the droves of amazing literature that have been penned over the years or play a good Bioware game. Stories in MMOs can be stirring, but I am much more interested in TERA for its combat.

Give me a sandbox game, and I will make my own story.

Give me a Korean game written poorly, and I will make my own story.

Playing a game like this is a fun little Mad Lib.

    Here you go:

__1__ wants me to ____2____  ____3____ of  ___4__ to help ___5__ against the ___6___ who are ___7____ the ____8____ of ____9_____ who is ____10____ and is ___11____ and therefore deserves our ____12____.

    1. Proper Name (ally) _______.

    2. Verb ________.

    3. Number _________.

    4. Noun __________.

    5. Proper Name (ally) _________.

    6. Noun (enemy) _____________.

    7. Verb _____________.

    8. Noun  ____________.

    9. Proper Name (ally) _________.

    10. Adjective ____________.

    11. Adjective ___________.

    12. Noun ___________.

The writers may come up with:

Frodo wants me to collect 12 of  the yellow gems to help Sam against the orcs who are stealing  the treasures of Gandalf who is beneficent  and is powerful and therefore deserves our respect.

    I may come up with:

Turd Ferguson wants me to steal 12 of  the viagra pills to help Phil McCracken against the pirates who are caressing the faeries of She-ra who is masculine and is manly and therefore deserves our sympathy.

That is how they write quests in MMOs. Might as well write it ourselves sometimes :)

Tera in Korean or Japanese makes this easy. Except you can also make fun of their archaic and dying pitcograms too. Like Box, Circlehead, Tree, Orange, Lotus wants me to Turd, Lama, Burrito, Muffin, Acrobat 12 Pen, Racecar, Football, Bat thingies.

Someone please make a good MMO.

The genre 'belongs' to the group with the most people paying and playing. If the genre doesn't look the way you want it, then you're not in that group. In that case it's not even a contest, you've already lost.

But Tera's innovation really is the combat. They've dedicated whole promo videos to nothing but the combat. It's not surprising that quest story lines would take a backseat. Besides, what could be more hardcore than playing a game in a language you don't understand?

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

BHS came out with a new JPN OB trailer, check it out.

  • Buying it? No thanks, you need a vpn to play there because they block IP. And the price for p2p mmo in Asia is doubled compared to us. Better wait a fan made server at this point before the west official is released here.
