The largest single world game populations?

I saw an article that crowned World of Tanks as having the largest single shard population, acknowledged by Guiness. One minute of research later I concluded this was bollocks, as it is more of an arena type game.

So I think it is safe to say that EVE online, with 400K accounts and close to 60K online still has the largest artificial community in any game world out there.

But my question is: which games are second and third?

For my satisfaction, only servers where all the players can be together n the game at the same time count - when they can actally interact through trade, cooperation or pvp.

I have no clue.

But I am in Entropia Universe atm and that's quite big - i think there are 10-20K active players here.

Last I checked WoT did not have a single shard, since Europe and NA are not fighting together on the same map.

Look at http://www.mmodata.net/ and you'll get your answers.

Second life is the largest closely followed by EvE Online. The rest of MMOs has multiple shards and data for single shards is not released by the developers, but only total combined numbers.

Yea that didn't give me any answers.

I am  wondering which game has the most players per shard. Someone must have some estimates on that.

But maybe there are just not that many single shard games, and the population per shard is kept at 5K normally?

I believe DarkFall hosted maybe 10K players early on. Fallen Earth is another single-shard game and they have maybe close to 10K players. That's what I am interested in.

Second Life doesn't count as a "game" for me, that's just my opinion. It has been mentioned now, so peace with it.

Oh, another key word here is "persistent world", I forgot to stress.

Any input is very much appreciated!

You had your answer already. It is Eve Online. Two shards. One main shard and one china shard.

Main shard has lately around 30k online.

Beside there IS chart with "biggest single shard population" in link you got. So please look more closely next time.

Sorry man, my question was which is second and third ;)

Do you have any good suggestions?

Darkfall isn't single-shard, it's split between US and EU, FallenEarth I guess it's the same but not sure.

Most MMOs have some 10k to 20k players per shard before they start to queue the login, but even that is just a guess based on rumors.

So guessimates are all that there is to your question then, as there's no data available for MMOs like WOW, or whatever of how many players per shard are playing or possible to login.

No I don't. No idea tbh. Think between places like 2-5 there wont be much diffrence and they will sit like 8-10k per shard on average.Peak might be much bigger. But I am just speculating.

Yea I know data are pretty vague.

Hmmm... but 20K players in WoW would be registered players I believe. I am thinking those game can have mo more than 4-5K online at the same time.

5k is laughable little numbers for a thing that calls itself "Massively Multiplayer" tbh.

The technology these days is totally capable of handling some 20k players on a single shard. Devs need to stop being cheap tards.

I think you are right. The AAA games have a standard load they take per server.

But I will maintain that Entropia Universe is one game that has a larger shared community than that - all planets are interconnected and share the same market, and you can travel between them. (although  most playrs are on the starter planet anyway lol).

The market is very large though, larger than on a crowded WoW server, so that tells me there are more players in the community.

Well maybe not standard but I just never heard or noticed other game beside Eve and SL that have much more user per shard than others. If so there are games which have less.

I don't know EU - well if you say so they sure I have no reason to don't believe. I don't know nothing about this game apart it is heavy p2w.
