Lack of defined class roles and soft grouping....... not so much. Both of those have really turned me off when it comes to GW2. I think Bioware's ability to craft quality stories that really draw you in will trump the dynamic events of GW2. You can paint dynamic events anyway you want, but all I can think of is Rift. Even if they are more involved than Rift's, I saw how the community reacts to them a few months in when they have become repetitive and old and can't help thinking it will be more of the same. I might be wrong. Besides I am an altaholic and it will be refreshing to experience different things each time....or even some of the same stories from a different point of view.
Anyone who claims to be an avid, true and dedicated gamer..will buy both .
Anyone who has common sense will wait for the reviews.
I don't think i have established anywhere in my post about buying both games before or after reviews. All i said was that any true gamer will buy both. But thanks for your opinion.

You're welcome. I wish I had the time and money to try every game ever released. I'm not sure how that makes me less of a gamer. Do you buy games that look like garbage?
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.
Will buy GW2. Might get TOR as well but will try it out first.
The reason is that I am a huge fan of GW1 but not so much of KOTOR. I did like BG1 & 2 as well as NWN so I will of course try out the game but Bioware have more to prove to me than ANET, I havn't enjoyed BWs later games as much as their earlier ones.
Anyone who claims to be an avid, true and dedicated gamer..will buy both .
Not neccesarily. Anyone who is a avid and dedicated MMO player should at least try them, that I agree with but far from all gamers like MMOs and while games like these deserves to be tried that does not mean that they should be bought blindly.
Give them a chance and let them convince you instead of just getting them without questions. That will keep down the whine threads here with 500% or so...

Sorry, but that is just crazy to say. What you think of as a "True Gamer" could, and most likely is, very different than me or others:) I do not like most of what Bioware puts out. So most likely will give SWTOR a pass.
But that is not written in stone:) depends on what i read/hear/learn after release. Guild wars, i played so long ago, it really has no bearing on GW2, so again will wait and see.

Why is it so crazy? my cousin is a huge movie buff and one has to see his movie library to believe it. It is a passion for him. I consider myself to be that passionate about gaming so i try and buy every good MMO that is out there. Why would i miss on the two biggest and most anticipated releases of the decades in MMO history? that is why i said that any 'true and passionate' gamer who loves to play MMO would buy both. If not well..they are not that passionate to begin with

It is funny how much people assume from one line. I never said anything about 'trying before buying' or like the other poster mentioned 'waiting for reviews first'. If you are waiting for a 'trial' or a 'review' then well you are not the person i am talking about. I think it is kind if obvious. there are games where i wait for reviews like Rift, Tera and then there are games which are no brainer when it comes to purchase like GW2 and SWTOR and to make things even better i got a chance to play both at gaming convention and so did many thousand of fans who have been following these games with passion. That is the kind of gamers i am talking about..no offense but you are not one of them .°

It is crazy to say, for a simple reason. Being an "avid, or passionate" gamer does not mean buying everything that comes along.
Remember the "Gamer" part of this? Not buyer. Would make more sense to say every avid gamer, should make sure that they spend their cash on GOOD games, not everything that comes out and is hyped to the stars:)
I hope that both of these games turn out to be " good " . But experience has taught me to wait and see, not be too excited before release.

Problem with MMORPGs is that there normally aren't many critical reviews until a significant time after release. I generally wait to see what the user "buzz" is after the game's release before buying though.
I will be buying both, just not for the same reasons and not at the same point in their respective release cycles.
Guild Wars 2 I will buy (pre-order) at launch because I've been looking forward to it since 2007 and thus far it's delivered on all its promises with spare change, in my view and brief demo experience. SWTOR I wil buy at a point when it goes on sale heavily discounted, because it's Star Wars and a beloved fandom of mine from my earliest memory, but ultimately disappointing as to what I personally would have hoped for in a Star Wars MMO. I can't NOT buy it. It's STAR WARS.
iv got the chanse to play bout of the games and im 100% that gw 2 is way beter even if its not sub sistem the combat in sw is epicly slow and it using mechanincs already i have seen in evry mmo so GW 2 FTW

Two most anticipated and huge titles of 2012 hardly equate to 'buying everything that comes along'.The 'avid' gamer i am talking about has already gathered enough information about two games and has played the demo in multiple gaming venues so i am pretty sure they already know that both games are good and worth purchasing. hence the words 'avid' and 'enthusiastic'.

I'm an avid and enthousiast gamer, heck sometime i try games just by curiosity and to check how a mechanism work and unfold in a game. But for some reasons i put Swtor aside for now, as an exmeple a month ago i even watched all the movies and serie i got about SW to put me in the bath. But you know what, those ingame footage just turned me off.

And reviews are always right? Well I enjoyed a lot of games that had bad reviews in the past, so I wouldn't have played them if I would follow reviews that are just opinions of other people on certain aspects of the game.
In closing: I have already pre-ordered SW:TOR (even if I'm not having much hope that it will satify my need for mmorpgs). And I will certainly get GW2 to, just to check and try it out myself.

so your saying that if the reviews for SWotR are crap I am not a 'true gamer' if I dont get it?
lol...
No purchasing of any single game makes anyone a 'true gamer'. How ridiculous.
Still considering SWTOR. Besides, from the looks of things there should be at least a 3 month gap between release dates. So hopefully people will play SWTOR for a while, get bored, then GW2...then (hopefully if things fit into my schedule) get bored of GW2 and then play Tera when it comes out later in 2012.
All depends on how long these games will last me really. Rift barely lasted me 30 days...lets hope these games can keep me entertained for at least 3 months.. : /
Currently waiting for the MMO industry to put out something good.
Loved the first one, I am just hoping that the success of the second one doesn't attract a load of morons like the people who frequent WoW and spoil the game's community.

Neither.
Both.

All ready bought SWTOR....so...
Will buy GW2 too.

In my opinion, you're not a real, avid gamer unless you buy Otomedius Excellent. This is the problem with people having different tastes.
