I'm guessing the soonest date for a launch announcement will be at gamescom Aug 18-21st and I'm hoping it will be then too, what do you guys say?

Bioware has already said they would most likely give a release date in Sept. as long as things go well.
"Soon"
I think in the EA quartley report that it was stated the release date would be pinned down in Sept.

I hate waiting for this game
I just thought that the EU community manager introducing himself for the first time and in the same month as gamescom might be more than a coincidence.

well i think they want to get some of the beta weekends done to see if there some big problems that were overlooked and that the severs are running well before giving a ship date so they don't need to push it back.
here is the stuff from the earnings call:

-As we get into the bulk of the summer we're going to be ramping up our beta campaign and by the time we get to around September we'll be in a position to really call the ball give the hard ship date."
-"While we're targeting Q3 for the launch of Star Wars, we recognized the possibility that through beta testing feedback and/or operational scaling that there's a possibility that we might move the title into Q4. We have high expectations for the potential for the product. The one mistake we don't want to make is if there is an issue is to make sure that we ship the right product. We don't think that the long term ship window is going to change that. Most MMOs have been announced, in term of ship date, 4-8 weeks prior to introduction. That's fairly standard. "People have target quarters, but whether it's World of Warcraft, it was our last launch or Sony's last launch, 4-6 weeks is relatively typical. You usually want to have high-scale testing completed and under your belt before you open it up to the paying consumer because the paying consumer can be very harsh. They have high expectations: perfect performance. That's what we intend to provide at launch."
Are we talking fiscal year quarters here or calendar year quarters?
Is Q4 Oct-Dec 2011 or Jan-Mar 2012?

I'd guess we're talking calendar judging by the quote, besides it would be too confusing talking in fiscal quarters to your playerbase.

It's probably best to assume the worst, and as late as possible, so you can be pleasantly surprised when it comes out early, and impressed by how they exceeded your expectations..
Why, that's how I did it when I first heard about GW2, and it coming out around 2009. I was like 'I'll pretend that means late 2010', and... okay, well, I obviously wasn't pessimistic enough.
How about May 2012 to be safe?
this wasn't them talking to their player base though. this is them talking to their investors. and yes mav, it is fiscal year. so Q3 fiscal year for ea would be Oct.-Dec. bascially if beta shows some huge problem it would get pushed to Q4(jan-mar)
I look at the open beta weekends as more of a stress test than anything.
In Bioware we trust!
betas are during the weekends in september. IE stress events. thus live release will be within a week or two of the beta events in septembber starting.
Hasn't closed beta been going on for several months?
i think that is exact their purpose but with more people in it could still reveal a problem that would require pushing the game back. but basically that is their worst case secnario and aren't expecting it but being prepared for it just incase
testing has been going on since june-july last year. but that doesn't mean that something couldn't pop up while they are adding or changing something now. plus they need to see how things are handled once many more people are in the game during the beta weekends to see if things will need to be adjusted to account for that and how stable the server(s) is(are).
gaou needs to stop speaking in common sense as it's starting to get depressing!!!!!!!! Just tell me they're announcing the launch this month and let me live in denial until it doesn't happen OK?

It's insane. It feels like having gone through a dry spell with the land grown barren because of the heat and drought for too long a time, and then suddenly water arrives not just in gentle rains but in a massive flood of storms at once
I mean, at the rate things are going we'll see a TERA, GW2, SWTOR, TSW, Firefall and ArcheAge all arrive within the same half year. Too much!

I know what you're saying, I stopped even coming to the forums for a year or so until someone told me that SW:TOR pre-orders were out. Now I've got the hunger again and the drool is dripping from my fangs as I crouch in preperation to pounce.
Is it me or do I sound obsessed?

oh sorry, let me try this instead
*ahem* RELEASE DATE ANNOUNCEMENT THIS MONTH WOOT!!!!
did i do it right?
oh and before anyone sees it and mentions it as fact, earlier this week, a guild posted what they were claiming as leaked pictures of TOR pax posters with the release date on them. Stephen reid has said they are fake since they have not sent anything to pax yet.
Being the cranky old man: I always said it would be 2012, curr hurr herp derp. XD
