Is it true?

Found on AC2 Feature on MMoRPG.com

Tactical Combat - Asheron's Call 2 features an all-new streamlined combat system where players are gripped by real-time decisions that influence the outcome of a battle. Players will be able to control when to attack, defend or use a special combination move in order to dispatch their foes most effectively and with style. Groups of players can use elaborate strategies that link each of their different abilities in deadly combination.

i just want to Know, Because when i have play the game, Its was just another Clikc and Wait and CHoose Skill in Quick Slot, There wasnt Such thing as Block etc... and As for the Combinaison Attack, is it true?

That must be from the intial release of the game.  I think they are referring to exploit moments and the two step attacks.

As far as the expansion goes you can form combo chains between different abilities.  I personally think the combat system in Ac2 is very fun and one of the best combat systems out of MMOs.

The idea and feature of being able to form combo-chains aka combos, has long been done in many other MMORPGs. Anarchy Online is one of the best examples. Star Wars Galaxies blows away all other mmorpgs in this area. Allowing players to customize their own combos, and making insanely long combos. And making 20 + different combos as well. Even if you go link dead, your character will continue fighting and doing whatever combos you have pre-programmed. One of the revolutionary new features of SWG to do something against lag death.

All the other mmorpgs that have this feature had it from the getgo and never needed to have to release an expansion to put it in. image

Don't try to bash AC2's features, kthx.

PvP comes standard with AC2 yet it's not in EQ2 or CoH. They require expansions, odd?

This is just a play on words I think.  The closest you can get to combination moves and combined attacks from groups is the combination skills; that if done in the right sequence have increased damages and effects.

I remember reading that the latest patch/expansion allows for multiple "team" members to complete these sequences.

From what I have experiences these are not that bad.

A play on words? Isn't that being rather kind and generous from a company with their history?

Hmmm... let's dig up what the CEO himself said about AC2, about 9 months before release, ok?

By the way, someone else (not me) made the below observations originally and on another forum. They are based on what Turbine was telling the world about AC2 right before the 2002 E3 trade show. Since this stuff was not in the alpha, and never appeared in the beta, nor in release, you have to really question why the CEO of this company was blowing so much smoke at the time. Note that the comments in italics are from the fellow who analyzed Anderson's "marketspeak".

It also makes you stop and consider everything, and I mean every single thing, that Turbine has said they would do with any of their games since Turbine was founded.

From the interview in Feb of 02 (well before even Closed Beta)

Jeff Anderson:What's really unique about AC2 is that the players actually get the opportunity to rebuild the lands, join the Kingdoms (Order, Shadow, or Dominion), and making choices about where to rebuild and how. And, this isn't just a one-time thing. The rebuilding and evolutionary process is going to be going on for years - just like the real world.

[sic]Years?? Like more than one? What happened here? Where were the choices I missed, or are you going to say it was my choice to stoke or not stoke the forges, and that this was my huge impact on the world?

GameSpy: Player housing was the latest big addition to the AC world. Will there be player housing in Asheron's Call 2, and will it work the same way?

Jeff Anderson: We're very proud of the fact that AC is the only MMP with 3D housing today. It is an enormously popular feature with our fans. In fact, we're planning to do even more with housing in AC2 when the time comes. But, as you can guess from AC2's fiction, people aren't going to be building houses when the game first launches. They are going to be focused on rebuilding the existing buildings and exploring the ruins on Dereth. In other words, player housing will be rolled out when the game world is ready for it.

[sic]So to clarify, when the WORLD is ready for it, and not when the players are, or when the Dev's can find time to implement this?

GameSpy: And on a related note, will players have as much power to dynamically change the world (destroy cities, build new ones, etc.?)

Jeff Anderson:Well, players will definitely be able to impact the world around them. AC2 let's them do this on both the micro and macro levels. On a macro level, we pay attention to large-scale player patterns and behaviors (like player density, traffic, usage, etc.) and then the game world will evolve around them. For example, let's say a lot of players have been hanging out near a platinum mine near Millstone. Then a new forge will come up there for players to use … and then maybe a tavern. The world will literally grow up around them. On a micro level, the players can directly change their surroundings. Let's take the forge for instance. When it first arrives, it may only be at 50% efficiency for the metal craftsmen. The players can then work collectively to repair and improve the forge until it reaches 100% efficiency. This micro-level impact creates an amazing group dynamic like nothing out there today.

[sic] Well the ability (and need) to upgrade forges for more of a benefit was nuked over a year ago. I have never, EVER seen anything dynamic like if there are people hanging out near one city a new tavern or mine cropping up - the devs specifically said they do NOT want to maintain different code bases per world. Since there is no code to dynamically manage what worlds have what areas upgraded, it's a farce that even cities rebuilt over time. Every world was advanced at the EXACT same pace - whether the area was high traffic or not. The servers didn't even keep a save state for upgraded forges and mines (when the guardians were controllable by faction) so that any server restart would set crafters back HOURS by returning mines to neutral and taking a forge at 100% and making it 0% again.

Simply put, Turbine promises the moon but never delivers. This is an ongoing thing, not a one shot deal. It's a situation I fully expect them to repeat with DDO and LOTRO too. But the reaction to wrecking those franchises will probably result in serious internal shakeups at Turbine. Whoever invested that $51 million now probably controls the company at the board level and they are not going to be happy if DDO or LOTRO flop.

The adventure is in the journey itself.
