Possible beta date

I was shocked to hear from my local gamestop that Monday 8/8/2011 is when the beta for everyone that pre-ordered will happen. They said that they had it confirmed from reliable sources. I asked a different gamestop and they had no clue, I searched online and found no information. Has anyone else heard of this supposed beta date? I would love if this were the truth but I cant help but be skeptical.

If the beta started tomorrow for you, dont you think you would of received an email already ?

and where did you see that pre-order were getting into beta ?

Thats what I was thinking but since I couldnt find any info, I had to ask if anyone else had this insight into the game that Gamestop apparantly has

*I didnt see anywhere that pre-order got beta, thats partly why i was shocked to hear this

That would be DA shit, But im sure they would give us time to DL the game befor the would open beta or early access.

"I look forward to completing your training. In time you will call me master."

It's bogus. The beta weekends for people who pre-ordered start sometime in September.

actually pre-ordering doesn't get you into the september beta weekends.  they are selecting people for those from the ones signed up for game testing.  all pre-ordering does is get you early access(which is just a short head start)  and a special color stone

Everything I could find was pointing to Sept, but I agree that it would be outstanding if it started monday. But also, one would think that they would tell you at least a couple days before hand to allow download time.

  • a new round of testing invites had been sent out last week, and maybe it starts this week. so maybe the gamestop person had a friend that got invite to it and got confused thinking it was because of pre-orders

That sounds much more likely, was wishful thinking for those of us who arent lucky enough to receive the beta invite lol

    Don't worry. Be Happy.

This game will be on store shelve by mid OCT , Nov 1 at the very latest to catch the X-Mas shopping crowd.

Anything less would be a massive marketing blunder, and with the marketing money they have there will not be a blunder.

The game is probably just about ready for launch now. All the rest of the wait now is a little testing and polishing while the marketing guys continue to build up hype.

They know they have a winner on their hands and they will build up this hype over the next few weeks to fit them snugly in the Pre Xmas launch window they covet.

The competition knows all this as well which is why you see Blizzard making some noise on its upcoming projects, and most other "big" games have moved their launch window out to 2012 to get out of the way.

Have a sense of humor, no need to get ALL MODDY ! :) A Simpson's quote shouldn't be worth a warning. You are lucky anyone is bothering to read this rag.

Beta weekends will start the first of September.

    Release will be Oct-Nov range

Ive seen 11/25/11 floated around a lot lately... not sure how legit that date is but it seems to be the "max date" it can be released. I'd still put my money on October though - assuming the beta testing in September goes well.

Oh geez, another rumor from Gamestop...you all should know by now that they make up dates for everything just to get people to pre-order from them.  Nothing is ever reliable from them unless the developer of said game has already made an offical annoncement, that which Bioware has not yet.

However, during Bioware's Comic-Con panel, the Weekend Betas for thousands of random players will start in Sept, and that whether you have a pre-order or not does not determine if you get an invite or not!

Lastly, during Bioware's investor's conference a little over a week ago:

As for the release date that everyone seems to be waiting for, CEO John Riccitiello explained during the call that although they have set a wide margin for the release date, they are confident in the projected release of holiday 2011. It is not uncommon according to Riccitiello for an MMO to withhold an exact release date until four to six weeks prior to launch. That said, Gibeau did say,  "In September, we will be in a position to call the ball and give you a hard ship date" following the major beta testing push.

never trust gamestop or any other retailer.

trust that ea and bioware have both confirmed launch in time for xmas sales, thats an absolute limit of being on shelves in time for black friday in november, and needs to honestly be there for a few weeks before that so non last minute shoppers have a chance to grab the box and wrap it for under the tree (sure alot of mmo gamers have a buy now play now attitude, but they are also selling to it non mmo playing star wars fans, and the kids that dig clone wars, and their parents will be buying the physical box and puttin it unda the tree).

11/11/11 is skyrim, which is also charging 150$ for the ce with a dragon statue and purely out of game only swag, but its not an mmo.  im waiting for next summer or the goty edition on this one.

i fully expect september ob stress testing on swtor and an october head start as long as stress testing goes well, thus we should see swtor fully live by november if all goes well (remember it was slated for q1 2011, they held it back for final codeing pass and major polish, i expect that polish to shine nicely when live)

I got so excited when I heard the news, I purchased a brand new computer.  Unfortunately, this may not come out until November and my computer will already be 4 months old by the time i get to play the game.  I guess I shouldn't have been so impulsive.  Problem is:  why are they doing pre-orders so early if they intend to release the game in November?  I say November because that's everyone's best guess.

Also, Bioware stopped collecting computer information for the Beta so they think my computer is 4 years old still =(  I doubt they would even want to test on an old PC like that so I guess I'm SOL.

    Blah.

Hah! I bought my computer last year and it's plenty good enough to play TOR. However I'm already starting to feel like my computer is becoming dated. Computer technology advances too quickly, I can't afford to buy a new system every couple of years. Heck I'm not happy to have to buy one every 5 years which is about the average rate at which I've been buying them since I got my first computer.

As to the gamestop deal, yeah that's total BS. As everybody has said pre-orders don't get you into the weekend beta's which start in September. And concerning the release date it's still just "holiday 2011". I'm guessing that means November and I suspect it will hit shelves the day after Thanksgiving, that's just a guess tho and is therefore meaningless.

And that right there is the very reason the majority of MMOs have become a more cartoony yet unique style and tend to follow the fabled path of the "WoW Clone" model that so many seem to hate.  Its all about accessiblility, and IMO from helping other gamers across dozens of MMOs, and forums over the past decade to build a custom PC, or even pick out a pre-built PC for the latest new MMO, I'd say that the majority don't have a clue about PCs.

There are too many that don't understand how PCs work, and that they can be and need to be upgraded every 2-3 years if one wishes to keep up with the best or even decent technology to run games at or near their max settings.  {And sure there are many gamers that are more than satisfied with the medium/high settings too.}  They seem to think PCs are more like a console and you only have to buy a new one every generation that usually last every 6-8yrs.  A PC cannot keep up with gaming if you upgrade at that extended rate.

As I mentioned, accessibility is the key ingredient, and making sure that the mass majority of gamers have access to your shiney new MMO.  Set the bar too high like some, FFXIV, VSoH, AoC, EQII...etc etc and you risk failing miserably as those did.  Granted its mostly due to their designs, launching early, bugs, but even if those games had more successful launches, they took a rather beefy PC to play well.  And most gamers scoff at paying $300 for a console, let alone dropping $700-$3000 on a gaming PC!

    Anyway...  {so totally off-topic, but the OP had already been more than answered and I was in the zone...}

It's been widely leaked that the next stage of testing was due to start on the 8th August but it's still closed to most of us. The guy probably read that somewhere and got confused with pre-order early access. Outside of the main testing groups, the first opportunity for most people will be the September weekend tests but even they will be limited.

Pre orders will only give few days head start. There isn't any open beta planned at all. Release day is widely rumoured to be late November but that's all it is as of now............... a rumour.

They weren't completely wrong in telling you this , Though it wasn't open testing that started today. was for the next round of closed betas

But I still wouldn't ever listen to a gamestop rumor since most of their employee's don't know their bunghole from their elbow.
