alright, i have a dell Dimension 4550, and right now the only things ive added to it is a 512 MB stick and a Radeon 9600 SE video card (makes it currently now 2.4 ghz, 80 GB hard drive, 768 MB RAM, 400 mhz FSB).
I dont really want to have to buy a newer model computer, but the problem is is that most newer video cards require PCI Express or an AGP 8x slot thing, and this model of dimension i think only supports AGP 4x (sorry if i dont completly know what im talking about).
If i have to get a newer Dimension model or a completly different brand of computer, can anyone lead me where to go to get a decent computer (around 2.8 ghz maybe, not sure what is considered decent procceser speed for gaming) that can support next generation video cards? or is there even a way to update my current Dell to support these? go crazy with this, ideas to trick out the computer and everything. Also, list prices and links to stuff if you can.

I'd be amazed if that is really a x4 only slot. You can buy an x8 card they're backwards compatible. Get an X800 or X850 and if that's not in your budget try a 9800. I would recommend an Nvidia card but since I doubt you're going to be reinstalling Windows or properly cleaning the old drivers out, I say stick with ATI.
ATI owns Nvidia high end
But with only 2.67ghz pentium 4(yes its good enough ) it will bottleneck a X800 talk less of a X850XT.
In this case simply go nvidia with a 6600gt which are excellent mid range cards with a great price.
And no you do not have to uninstall windows when you change graphics card .All you need to do is simply find the folder with the driver for ATI and wipe it clean .Switch off the computer install new card and load the nvidia driver.I done this for my computer(not used nvidia in my computers for 2 years now though) and have up to last month done it for friends, though i did it from nvidia to ATI as all my friends going ATI route too .
