I've been watching and waiting all this time for that.

And reduce the grind too...maybe. Not real sure about this.

The other thing is, and I don't know if they did something about this, but dungeons need entrances. I didn't like the portal idea at all. I've never been beyond that first few rooms of one, so I really don't know how much of a change this might actually mean. But I very much prefer your typical walk-in dungeons.

First of all, dungeons were instanced to reduce the FPS drain caused by such a cluster.

2ndly, new dungeons won't be static, which will be another reason to keep them seperate from main world.

well, as far as the dungeons go, that's a shame. I don't mind if they are like UO's, separate but with an entrance, but to keep them with just a portal for an entrance just seems less "worldly sandbox". Not a game killer though, but I also didn't like having to go through the dungeon to get to the exit. Whatever.

But FPS reminds me, that's another thing "wrong" with Darkfall. It's great for ranged attacks. It sucks for everything else. I know the arguments both ways, I've been in those many times (including on Darkfall's forums before release, where they were convinced to do the behind-the-back view). That's my opinion though, and it won't ever change. This makes Darkfall, for me, something I'm watching only because there is no good Sandbox type of game out there.

So it's still attractive to me, due to lack of other options, but I'd leave if another option came along that didn't have these things I really (and I mean Reearly) don't like. Just one man's opinion. But from message boards over the years, I think that I am far from alone.

    Once upon a time....

I'll watch the forums for a month after this comes out and hope for the best, but I'm not stupid. Adventurine is gonna blow it again.

Then only thing that Aventurine failed at the first time was a failure in understanding how utterly moronic and self-defeating a good portion of their playerbase would be.  Hacks and obsessive macroing, that's what made Darkfall 1.0 something less than a stellar success.  Everytime I read someone complain about "the grind" I can't help but shake my head and laugh.  Nothing was forcing you to grind every skill or spell to its highest level - it was very easy to get to 70-80% effectiveness, and gear, numbers, and player skill was what generally made the difference in a fight (imagine that...).

Look at some of the moronic suggestions in this thread:

"No towers" :  Huh?  No defense mechanisms in a sandbox game?  Why would you build anything then?

It's hilarious, because the griefer who goes around ganking players who are almost getting killed fighting the most powerful monsters is using the exact same situational/territorial advantage that towers provide.  So apparently the point is just to get "safe ganking" rather than "safe zones."

"Get rid of ARACs" :  You want the devs to tell players how to organize and play the game properly?  In a sandbox?

Nothing was forcing players to play without purpose or imagination.  In fact, that was entirely the problem.  Players playing without imagination.  If you aren't going to follow an ounce of character development, lore, or background story - why do you want to play a sandbox RPG?  The answer... you don't.  You are just here to make sure the game fails.  You succeeded.

Despite all this, there was still plenty of fun to be found in the game up until the point that the populations got really small.  Imaginative people need to develop thicker skins, I guess.

Like every expansion before this one, the company is hyping it with huge promises and such. By the time it is here the cool shit that we all want will be axed from it. Darkfall has potential, but Aventurine are god damn morons. Four things have to change to make DF worthwile.

    1. lots of PvE-content that you can consume rather safe without the constant fear of being ganked every now and then. There need to be things you can do on your own casually when your buddies aren't online or when there's no siege-event etc.

    2. an economical system that requires people to spezialize into industrializing. Harvesting and crafting should not only be a n afterthought, but a core-feature. Ressources have to be added that you can fight over to give the PvP a meaning. Low-end ressources for basic items in safer areas, high-end ressources in FFA-areas for the advanced items. Harvesters need protection from combat-players ofc, which leads to teamplay.

    3. clan-villages that you need to defend against other clans, tied to some of the ressources in that area. Every building of this village has to be build by the basic ressources and are fully destructible. Again, PvP needs a reason and consequences.

    4. skills need a level-cap and your skills should depend on the equipment you wear. A sword-wielding player in heavy armor should not be able to cast spells for example. Think of skills being tied to your currently worn battleframe/armorsuit with nbo possibility to switch your battleframe/armorsuit out in the wild but only in cities and clan-villages

These are the fundamental things IN MY OPPINION to make DF a worthwile game and not a dumb PvP-Arena that it is currently.

I agree, make the factions actually count for something.

Also, I know a lot of people would probably hate this idea but: make the map smaller! It's a great map I know, but it's just too friggin' big for the amount of players. If by some miracle they reach the 10,000 player quota, then they can always make it bigger, but right now it's a wasteland what with the lack of mobs as well.

Well i do think that magic needs a serious overhaul.

As it stands your pretty much forced into leveling magic, even if you go the magekiller route (which blocks higher magic and elemental) you still need to level about 3-4 diffrent schools of magic to be competative, and you need to use them.

The game, for the most part, seems to be a range focused game, while most agree its the melee thats the most entertaining.  Sadly most pvp encounters involve using the gank skill as the only form of melee (used after your dead)...This needs to changed....melees too fun to be a method of last resort in pvp (basically your range didnt do the job)

As per making the map smaller.....hell no...the DF world is probably the best part of the game.  Its one of the largest worlds ive played in, its easy to get lost, or to find your own hidden spot to level in.  They simply need to recreate hot spots thoughout the map.  The problem with the "worlds too big" crowd is that they basically want easy to find people to gank.  Yes the population is crazy low right now (granted with the upcomming 2.0 a lot of people are taking a break)

Simply put, i hope they keep most of the game the same, aside from adding to it.  I would be quite dissapointed if they made the game just another "1 month till endgame" type games.  I dont want decaying stats, i dont want to be forced to be a first strike mage, i dont want a super easy pve side so i can spend 1 month hitting cap and another month being bored of being at cap...some of us still like the journey.

All this talk of 2.0 actually made me rush to resub, since i fear they are going to change the game drastically, even if its for the better and i enjoy it now...current darkfall is just too unique of a gaming experience to risk it changing without one last chance to experience it.  I wish more people played but its the PVE that i loved, the full loot ffa pvp just made the pve much more exciting imo. Its a shame people play these games for the endgame domination only, macroing though a fun pve game, then complaining theres not much to do.  I think they are going to appeal to the instant gratification crowd, which is why i resubbed for one last go at the game.  Fully enjoying it as well....even without the crowd.

Basically i hope they keep the pve somewhat the same, its the pvp that needs to be reworked...

Can update this games a million times over and it's still only gonna pull in a niche crowd. This game is a good representation of every over hyped and over waited games release. Duke Nukem Forever anyone? Think you seen how that game turned out just as well as this. It's called Darkfail for a reason.

    Mwahahaha! image

Seriously people, read that update if you havent already. Funniest thing I've read in a while.

    It basically goes like this:

Tasos: "This might be a problem or not, we might do A, B and/or C... or not. Yaddayaddayadda, and everything will be awesome!"

Henchman 1 & 2: "YES, yes and yes! Everything will be more and better, but what, how and when we wont tell you!"

These guys could be big in stand-up comedy, they really got talent for it. And another funny thing is how most of the fans reacted: "Sounds great, cant wait for this!"

I didn't really find the interview, the questions or answers, to actually be that interesting. It sounds like they're addressing some much needed tweaks to balance some things out, but I was under the impression that DF2.0 was supposed to be a massive change. Where are the questions about skill caps, or about adding PvE content that might actually get players other than strict PvP'ers interested in playing?

Meh, AV giving as little information as possible once again. DFO 2.0 better be eipc because DFOs current state is a joke. Setting of keybindings in itself is a grind let alone the game lol. I do enjoy the game but it has some serious flaws presently...

DF 2.0 should have been what Darkfall release as.

And even then it wouldnt have lived up to tasos hype but atleast it would have been a decent game.

    Playing: Nothing

    Looking forward to: Nothing

PvE should be miles better, i say should because AV can  let down even the most rabid of fanboi. But you're pretty much right about the balancing act they are trying to achieve with the new armour sets, something that most normal gaming companies do with regular patches, AV seem to work as if DF is a single player title.
