AO, AC, and DAOC...I'd definitely play any of these if they were remade.

Anarchy Online I have to agree never got the attention it deserved.  Very complex and interesting MMO and so different from anything else out there.

I missed out  on Asheron's Call when it was in its heydey.  Would love to see those blocky avatars updated.

So much emphasis is always on only the 3-faction system of DAOC.  That game was definitely so much more than RvR and if Mythic does ever create a second version, I hope they consider all elements of what made it so great.

AO and DAoC are sure on the top of my list of MMOs that should get another shot.

Both of them offer alot of diversified content and something for everyone. The good mix of PvE and PvP is the major reason why there's still a strong playerbase enjoying those titles and after all those years and it's actually astonishing, that there's so little MMOs developed after those two that got it right in the same way. EvE Online and SWGpreNGE are the only ones after AO and DAoC imho.

Another title that I'd like to see getting a sequel is Neocron. Lot's of good ideas in there but poorly done in the first incarnatio(s).

    My top 5 :

    1. SWG (current content except the events crap in combination with old skillsystem)

    2. UO

    3. Vanguard

    4. Anarchy Online

    5. Cant think of a 5th :/ So Ill keep it in reserve for a future fk up :p

if remake means, new graphics, some bugs fixed but the good old gameplay with the mostly harsh and unforgiving world, i am with you.

but pleae, not more linearity/quests, refinement/balancing, simplification/accessability and all the other stuff which destroyed the classic MMORPG.

you forgot EQ1. just the pre-PoK game mechanic and new graphics. then fix the hell-levels, but just these. ok, a better combat mechanic for close-range-fighters would make sense. but please dont change the interesting tactical combat for range fighters as it was.

and no, EQ2 is not a remake of EQ1. it is a perversion of EQ1. and i doubt, that EQ3, which was announced by Smedly lately, will become what i called a remake above.

played: Everquest I (6 years), EVE (3 years)
months: EQII, Vanguard, Siedler Online, SWTOR, Guild Wars 2
weeks: WoW, Shaiya, Darkfall, Florensia, Entropia, Aion, Lotro, Fallen Earth, Uncharted Waters
days: DDO, RoM, FFXIV, STO, Atlantica, PotBS, Maestia, WAR, AoC, Gods&Heroes, Cultures, RIFT, Forsaken World, Allodds

Nice to see UO on the list, that's actually my number one game that I'd like to see remade.

I'd also like to see SWG remade as well, similar to it's pre-CU state, but with balancing done properly from the get-go and all of the bugs and exploits cleaned out of it.

Never played Anarchy Online but if somebody did an AO2 I would definitly give it a try.

Glad to see L2:Goddess of Destruction coming out which will be almost a new game from the looks of it but I would still love to hear news of work starting back up on Lineage 3.

Ultima Online 2 needs to be an actual 3D MMO. 2.5D was over in the 90s. Take the world of Britannia and make it an actual world to exlore. And make it big.

Only played AC a little bit but it was fun. I would be up for an AC3

DAoC2 definitly. Creative original world and the best PvP ever.

Somebody mentioned SWG. What I would like to see would be a game with the same kind of mechanics as the Pre-NGE game even if it didn't use the StarWars IP. The game was just fun back in the day.

Vanguard would be another good one to revisit. Good ideas, interesting worlds. great features. Shame it didn't go anywhere.

    All die, so die well.

Me personally I want to see Auto Assault remade as it was a game that touched on  things that no one else even thought of.

  • synnsynn Member UncommonPosts: 563

a daoc remake would be amazing. I can't think of another game that had a more enjoyable rvr/pvp system.

  • depaindepain Member Posts: 263

    SWG

  • KendaneKendane Member UncommonPosts: 225

Ones I'm all for remakes of would be DAoC, EQ1, and I suppose UO.  For UO, I never played the game or even really looked into it, but people said it was pretty good, so I wouldn't mind seeing an updated version of the game and see if I would like it.

For EverQuest, I'm trying to be optomistic and believe that this EverQuest Next will fit the bill(please keep the world dangerous, which even average monsters being a actual threat if you weren't careful...and Kithicor Forest, keep that, you guys know what I'm talking about=D)

Finally DAoC.  The population balance wasn't too bad from what I remembered, if one side had several more people and were stomping the other two, the other two from what I remember ignored each other and focused on the big guy.  I think this can deal with PvP zones with dailys(like Tol Barad) not basically becoming a new zone for the Horde/Alliance.  That and actual objectives that had some real benefit for taking.  Keeps and artifacts were a pretty cool feature, and if PvP wasn't your thing, you just kept out of the frontiers.

    Good read, good list.

I'd really enjoy a rejuvenated DAOC, with better graphics and UI ; that would definitely make me  a player.

Agreed on AO too... still waiting for the new vaporwa...uh graphic engine though...

    Neverwinter Nights.

A true, old school, Dungeons and Dragons game would be sweet. Bonus points if it has strategy combat turnbased over twitch button pushing.

Have a sense of humor, no need to get ALL MODDY ! :) A Simpson's quote shouldn't be worth a warning. You are lucky anyone is bothering to read this rag.

I would love someone to make DAoC2, but not BioWare-Mythic. They have proven themselves to be utterly incompetent with WAR and i have completely lost my faith in them, the people that made DAoC great have left Mythic, the magic is gone.

Someone please make a 3 faction game with an interesting PvE experience, a deep robust economy which includes crafting and a meaningful (yet seperate from PvE) RvR element. Don't have silly 'instant AE stun' 'I win' abilities,  look at DAoC from as it was a few months after release up to SI but before ToA and learn from it.

I would totally ruin my drawls if Asheron's Call was remade

  • marganculosmarganculos Member UncommonPosts: 334

    DAoC,UO,AC....hmm remade....yea  pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee

    1.) Dark Age of Camelot

Warhammer Online was supposed to be our DAoC2. Or so we all thought. And when it wasn't quite what we'd hoped it would be, we were all left waiting for someone to come along and give us an updated version of that three-faction RVR. There are games on the horizon which are attempting the three-faction warfare model, but the one we'll always be comparing each new game to is Dark Age of Camelot. If Mythic were to convince EA to let them update their classic, and do it right this time I have little doubt they'd be happy with the results. We're not asking for some $100 million budgeted block buster, we just want a graphically updated and gameplay-refined DAoC. Give it to us... please?

Ive been saying the same thing for years. Noone, NOONE has produced a better PVP game then this. EVER.  Most PVP games cant do better then 2 realms in PVP, DAOC offers 3, all with diverse character classes. Conceptually, this idea of PVP was and is still the best hands down.

Just one thing, if EA does decide to revamp this, please.... PLEASE dont give it back to the Myt......the Myth.... oh god I cant even say it.

Just give it to someone else that knows what they are doing. Hell let me revamp it I would love the challenge. Or sell me the copyright.

It still saddens me that Asheron's Call 2 could manage seasonal weather nearly a decade ago, transforming whole zones from temperate to winter wonderlands, and it's not even considered in modern games.  Current game devs are lazy bastards who focus too much on building a better treadmill, and not a better game world.

  • JimmacJimmac Member UncommonPosts: 1,660

I want an mmo that has the PVP combat mechanics and PVP gameplay and PVP systems from DAOC, with the PVE of EQ1 and UO, with great crafting like any number of games out right now, with a gigantic world so freaking big that exploration and adventure is genuinely possible meaning that you can set off in a random directly and find places that have stuff to do not doable elsewhere in the game, with housing like SWG, with no pets or mounts or collectibles any other stupid mass market crap like that, with the economy of Eve online and rules from Eve online concerning how you can treat other players, with class diversity from any number of games such as SWG and DAOC, and no themepark/handrails bullshit like SWTOR, WOW, etc. and with the graphics of UO and Lineage 1.

Someone please make this. Thank you.

I think SWG was left off the list simply to avoid the same tired arguments

    ( But SWG, definately)

3 Faction PvP, lots of options for an economy, looks really promising. (though its a sci-fi setting)

Anyways... I think there are other MMOs that should be up for a remake,  or at least a reintroduction...   SWG,  Tabula Rasa,  but I respect the list anyways as I know a lot of people like the games mentioned.

AC1 and 2 both had seasonal changes, and it made the world feel alive.

DAoC should be remade, truly remade, and I wouldn't trust Mythic to do it. The way WAR turned out, and how they completely effed up DAoC with the stupid ToA expansion, allowing buff bots to exist, and the few other things that went wrong just shows how utterly indept Mythic is. They got lucky, and they couldn't even reproduce their own success.

Asherons's Call is the other game on the list that I have been wanting to see remade for a long time. DDO and LotRO just didn't capture the magic that Turbine once had, even AC2 was more enjoyable for me than DDO or LotRO. Keep the robust systems of AC1, mix in some of the unique classes of AC2 into skill sets (I wanna use bees as weapons again), and then build the world.

I'd be an happy camper if only one of these game would be remake.  We can dream i guess.

  • SouldrainerSouldrainer Member Posts: 1,857

Funny thing about DAOC is, it could be updated with one AAA expansion and it would rock the house again.

And Sanya is the community rep! Bonus!

Other than that, I'll just echo the sentiment that UO and DAoC are in DESPERATE need of a remake. They were so good, and highly recognizable as being ahead of their time by those that played it.

DAoC, especially, if they just upgraded the UI and graphics, it would go a long, long way to bringing people back in.

I think SWG was not included since we are still waiting to see SWTOR which may be the "answer" to the loss of SWG (pre-NGE).  Definitely maybe.

My first MMO was Asheron's Call, but AC2 did not keep the same game mechanics that we all loved -- so AC2 failed.

DAoC was my first taste of large-scale PvP (RvR in Mythic parlance) and the game was wonderfully fun with massive long-term battles that could last two hours.  Problem was that DAoC expanded the PvE aspect of the game massively and then remade the PvP frontiers portion when nobody wanted it.  Essentially, they fixed what wasn't broken.

Warhammer is NOT the new DAoC, and a graphically all-new DAoC -- or New Age of Camelot (tm) -- keeping and expanding on the RvR frontiers would be wonderful to behold.

    ~~~
    However, since I am not realistically anticipating the remake of any of these games, I have preordered SWTOR.
