Interesting topic and one I think many are passionate about.
I too would move AC to the #1 position and have advocated it's rehash forever it seems. They really dropped the ball on AC2 deviating to far from the succesful formula that made AC1 so popular.
I am goin to add another that is missing from any of the replies I saw and that is a graphical based MMO in the vein of Simutronics offerings ie Dragon Realms/ Gemstone. The intricacies woven into there text based offerings has yet to be transfered successfully to the MMO realm. Maybe it never will. They were working on one but it appears to be vaporware.
The disconcerting thing about these lists that fans wish would come to see the day of light..........modern MMO's have such a steep development curve lasting years and costing enourmous sums to complete, any of these actually happening seems a far fetched walk down memory lane.
I deeply disapointed in Turbine , that they didn't have the courage after the failure of AC2 to go back to the drawing board and bring there franchise back to it's former glory, shame on you Turbine!
FUn to see Lineage (II) onn the list and that it needs a remake. I partlyt agree with it as vivid L2 player. Game mechanics itself are awesome, but compared to most (western) MMORPG's, it's so different. Point & click to move to start with? WHy not WASD as every other MMO out there (less training for the mouse-hand as well).
But good news... This fall the remake of L2 comes in the form of Goddess of Destruction! (Sace said Fall 2011 in a post on official forems) Not sure it's what we all wanted, but a big remake it's for sure
DAoC. I just want to see why those fans keep trying to turn every single game in the market into it. Lets see I saw threads about people wanting DAoC features added into Rift(they had a 100 page thread floating around), GW2, SWToR, and WoW.
I personally think 3 faction splits the population FAR too much and the only way to pull it off would b on a super servers that did not cause lag when you have thousands on the screen which is easily 5-10 years away.
i think you havent played daoc .. if you did you never made it to end game .... there was tons of people all the time ,,, imo DAOC and UO were the best ever made
I think SWG was not included since we are still waiting to see SWTOR which may be the "answer" to the loss of SWG (pre-NGE). Definitely maybe. --
SWG was a Sandbox game Pre-NGE, no classes or levels, a space game that is not on rails, strong player crafting system and economy, no uber gear drops from themeparks, and much more that SWTOR will never be.
I'd be all for UO remake if it held to the original sandbox grounded design and didn't care at all about looking at current MMOs and changing it around that.
Wouldn't mind seeing the others on the list, again as long as they hold true to their own original designs. Don't want to see more MMOs that play just like others except with their own little twist tacked on.
Bump for the guy who mentioned SWG. With or without the SW IP, the original Pre-NGE game was superb, bringing back the same game (especially the profession and housing aspects) would be amazing, even in a different universe. I was the 2nd Jedi on Chilastra server back in the day, played it religiously, and never got bored until the NGE, really miss the game.
Even though it pissed me off on many occasions, I agree with those that say SWG. Put a developer on it that actually knows the lore of which the game is based on, turn it back before any jedi were in it(they shouldn't be in that time frame), and fix the bugs. Let smugglers smuggle and let commandos be commandos. Once all that is done, add worldwide events. Had SOE done that, the game would never have closed down.
I want a new Ultima Online more than anything else. Really, I don't even care about a graphics update. The style is fine, the world is fine, the UI could certainly use some improvement, but just kick EA to the curb and take it back to OSI T2A. We don't need multiple facets in four different worlds, we just need oldschool Sosaria and the features that originally drew in a crowd. That's all.

A true, old school, Dungeons and Dragons game would be sweet. Bonus points if it has strategy combat turnbased over twitch button pushing.
I'm right there w/you on that, although you really can't put NWN into the MMO genre. It'd be truly sweet if they could offer 2nd and 3rd/3.5 edition(s) rules versions, along with a turn-based system...I'd snatch it up in a heartbeat. Granted, if revamped as an MMO, there'd have to be a time limit (for turn-based) put in place, otherwise, griefers would rule the day. Atlantica Online did a good job of this w/their pvp.
Video games aren't breaking into their 30's...they're in their late 30's, breaking into their 40's, depending on what you consider to be the first games available to the general public.

What this guy said.
Star Wars Galaxies pre-CU/NGE tops my list.

I never played Lineage , but it stills looks good, I love that isometric Diablo style.
At the risk of being flamebait I will say it..
Can WoW be remade? Don't tell me a remade WoW will flop either.
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
Good list, agree completely. I´d like to see Vanguard on that list tho
DAOC for sure but no Tabula Rasa or Vanguard ?

That's a good list. I'd love to be able to experience those game but with modern graphics and UI.
AC1. Havent found a game since that immersed me like that. Would love a remake.

Currently Playing: World of Warcraft

I would add Neocron here
UO 3D need i say more.
And the best and most looked for things of DAoC will return in GW2.
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
1. Neocron!
2. Neocron!
3. Neocron!
4. Earth and Beyond
5. Anarchy Online
"Welcome to the famous Pepper park district.... BLAM BLAM BLAM ... synchronizing" ahh, memories sweet memories
AC such crap! Lineage yes!
1 - Shadowbane
2 - DaoC
3 - Vanguard
4 - SWG (pre-NGE)
5 - Anarchy online
Those would be my 5.
Good list.
I have been hoping for years and years for an AO2 or a DaoC2. Loved them both.
I'd love to see DAoC done again as long as:
1. Don't try and make it a PVE kit chase like with ToA, leave player made items the best.
2. DON'T under ANY circumstances allow GOA anywhere near it. Find a european host that aren't a complete bunch of pricks please

SWG
Ryzom
Auto Assault (with an out of car game added to it)
DAOC
AO
Motor City Online
Tabula Rasa
It's more than 5 but I could have went on with more.
