We had the chance to talk shop with Ankama Games about their upcoming MMORPG, Wakfu. A brand new update is hitting the closed beta quite soon, and we got all the juicy details. Take a look inside.
There’s a huge new patch coming to Square Enix’s Wakfu, a beautifully rendered MMO from Ankama games. The game’s still in Closed Beta, but that didn’t stop the team from talking to us about what the testers are seeing added behind closed doors to make sure Wakfu is chock-full of content before it launches later this year. Taking place in the same world as the cult favorite Dofus, Wakfu’s story picks up over 1,000 years later. In the time of Dofus, an ogre named Ogrest managed to collect the six mythical Dofus eggs for the sake of someone he loved. But she spurned his advances, wanting only the eggs, and Ogrest killed her in a fit of rage. Later, perhaps sad for what he'd done, he sulked off to the summit of a mountain and cried for 1,000 years. Now, much like Dofus before it, the goal of Wakfu is to defeat Ogrest, but also to find out about the world and the lore as you go about this herculean quest.

The game isn't in Closed Beta it's currently in Open Beta so everyone can play it atm.
I play it myself and it's a wonderful game it's a breath of fresh air during this time when every game is trying to copy WoW.
I am a fan of turn based combat.
Some of my more favorite games are old school sega games, like Shining Force and Shining Force 2.
Wakfu helps fill the void of turn based combat. The game itself still has quite a ways to go, but it is worth the investment if you enjoy the combat style. (Although there are still some class balancing issues to deal with)

yah i enjoyed wakfu. just super laggy in australia for some reason. so now i just play dofus which is just as fun..just not as shiny
I just tried to make account and it says i need to wait for beta kay event or email with key
The game is in Closed Beta for some markets (NA) and in Open Beta in Europe.
The game looks great, I hope they come out with an android or iOS version so I can take it on the go with me. I look forward to playing it.
So is this made by the same people that did Dofus? Also is this game better than Dofus?
depending on your location its closed here in north america but open on the interenational servers is open beta
Wakfu is for sure one to watch, if you are a fan of turn based games or Dofus. Crafting is pretty fun as well.
I'm personally waiting until I know my character won't be deleted to invest more time into the game. The game for sure can be a timesink, and that's great but -- yeah, rather sink the time when I know my lil characters will be safe!!

TweFoju there is a playable EU version as well which is hosted by Ankama the company who created the game lols.
This game is a great turn based mmo. I recommend all strategy lovers to try this game out. There is crafting, harvesting and a new system that no other game has that lets you plant seeds from other monsters and make them spawn again.
It's very unique and refreshing try the game you will love it.
ALL THOUGH i warn you they do reset the game quite often so you wont get to keep your character for long. It's a beta and betas suck indeed especially this one.
I wont be playing Wakfu until open beta is over, i can't wait till its release.
I signed up but have to wait for Open Beat to play.

yeah it doesn't seem like its an open beta in NA (US) right now to me... I sure can't get in

i know the Ankama one, which i have tried, but believe me, it's unplayable for non French speaker, you cant do Dungeons because no French will want to speak English with you, then try selling something, the French will most likely ignore the English speaker
so yes, for me the Playable one is the SE
So What Now?
It's ridiculous that the NA version is in closed beta; the EU version has the exact same content, and it's in English too, but it's in open beta! There is absolutely no reason at all for it to be in closed beta still. I am in the closed, but it's not fair for everyone else, and it does suck that my character will be deleted.
What does that, most likely, really bad and scammy website have to do with the topic at hand?

Unfortunatelly Ankama is known for lack of bugfixing, not admitting their wrongdoings and problems caused by bad patches and awful and extremely slow customer service.
In last weeks their servers were hacked and many ppl got their equipment/gold stolen. Which lead to them "fixing" the issue by resetting all passwords. Many ppl did not get the emails with new passwords. And to get access to your (p2p) account you need to go through their crappy support and present copy of your ID.
Support usually takes weeks (if they bother replying to your tickets) and now with all this pass reset and account mass stealing it takes even longer. Ppl that got their accounts cleaned have recieved no compensation so far.
On top of that stupid french law requires passwords to be stored in plaintext so the crapstorm might happen in future again.
