As the playerbases always seem to ebb and flow in MMOs, it's always nice to see new people coming in:

New Player Hey, Just wanted to drop by the forums and introduce myself. Im new to MO but not to MMO's in general. I just bought the game today after playing with the trial a bit. I like what I seen so I figured I'd pay my dues to support a great game with a lot of promise. I know there are issues but I can work through all that as I play an MMO now that had a lot of issues when it first came out but its actually doing fairly decent 3 yrs later. But in any case, I go by Xantros in game and hope to see you all there. |

What's also nice to see is a pretty good reception (as seen in the linked thread) from what is overall a great community.

I'm sorry, and this is honestly not meant to be sarcastic... but the simple fact that you feel compelled to create a thread showing there was a new player in the game should really say all you need to know about the "health" of the population. I mean.. over 4 days it had maybe 15 people respond saying welcome.
Is this really threadworthy? There was A new player who joined on July 31st and had 15 or so people welcome him over the next 4 days? Maybe I am missing something here...

I agree with slapshot. Making a thread because ONE guy joined just shows how desperate MO must be for subs.
Nice to hear there is still some blood flowing that direction.
I might give it a go in a couple weeks if i find the time.

It won't be killing WoW anytime soon, but there are those that appear to like this style of play as well....

New blood - Australian player.
So I came here through Facepunch. I really liked how Mortal Online is somewhat a mesh of Elder Scrolls, Wurm and some RTS game which is what got me to purchase this game. It is also the first time I have purchased a subscription. (A P2P game)
I can play as many hours as you want, I'll probably be on it for hours on end. Does my race matter? I'll be a Tinremian. I have no microphone and as for maturity, I have a little bit of an ego and can lash out at people if someone says something mean towards me.
You get an extra bonus if you're an RP guild.

New Player Looking for a place to stay
Greetings!!
My ingame name is Kaam Rejan. I first approached Mortal Online at the begining of this year, however the premature death of my PC led me to face one of the numerous gamer's worst nightmare: being left alone with a mac in a student room.
I'm a complete noob , and would like to join a guild . I have Teamspeak, Ventrilo or Mumble.
Tell me what you need to know.
I'm ready for the questions.

New player looking for rpk guild.
I've been playing for about 2 weeks and am looking to join up with a rpk guild. I'm a total noob in pvp so I need someone to show me the ropes and have a little patience.
I'm located in USA central time zone and have np with using teamspeak, vent...
Like I said, it's always nice to see some fresh faces and a good community....
It's a game. People come, and people go. Life's too short - play what's fun!

This thread isn't any better than the "bittervet quits, MO is dead, here's a link" threads, but it's not any worse.
Good to meet you. Here ,have a stack of my world famous Peacan Crunch Pancakes. My customers go nuts over them. Served with warm, real Maple Syrup and Whipped Cinnamon Butter.
Tease.
I had heard Rumors that there was a new player in MO, good to see it confimed.
It's apparently a big deal, things are looking up.

The only bad thing is, he is probably going to be rerfered to as, "the New Guy" for the next six months.
The official MO forums are littered with new player posts. It's actually kind of annoying.
Never trust a screenshot or a youtube video without a version stamp!
Littered? Perhaps if SV would stop deleting every other post the impact would be lessened.

the art of exageration is live and well it seems. The forums do not have that much activity. It is the same people in the same threads.
I am not saying there are not some new people. But they also banned like 10-15 regular posters when SV got back from vacation.
Exaggeration, manipulation, perception management, etc. are all alive and well here. They've never been missing. As Toferio said, similar posts about "unsubbing" are posted, with zero concern about "threadworthiness", even though multiple threads are started on the same topic. Amazingly enough, those types of exaggerations are given a pass. Plenty of hypocrisy here as well.
There are a good number of new faces posting on the official forum, and being seen in-game. It's nice to see as a player, though I can see where it would be threatening to those who've invested emotionally in the hope of failure. Why anyone would waste that type of emotional capital on a game, well...

The difference is of course, that these forums are not related to MO or SV, and don't have to be biased to support them. The official MO forums have shown to be heavily moderated and censored, and only are interested in showing MO and SV in the best possible light. While you might be able to post about one new player joining MO, the logical folks know that the game is dying slowly. Maybe not everybody leaves overnight, but by a trickle, they are leaving. If something else comes out to supplant MO as a PvP sandboxy type game that isn't too terrible, I think the gates will open faster and the game will crash and burn.
To post threads about "new faces" joining as if it's a positive sign for MO is in my estimation, a bit too optimistic, but you're entitled to it.
Is the MO fanbase so desperate for attention that they praise every new subscriber?
Seriously?
I think Blizzard would make a big deal out of doubling their server population!

That's just it. The logical folks know that there are people leaving it, new people arriving, and vets returning. Just as it is with every game.
The emotional folks are the ones that have been desperately trying to sell something to this community - that it's only one way or the other, and it's always taken to extremes. Does one-sided extremism really sound credible to anyone?

That the other threads you've described didn't receive the same criticism, though they are virtually identical in form, really just illustrates the overall lack of intellectual honesty often found here.
Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.
The logical folks know the game is dying. It's not like MO is trading a few losses of players for a few gains of new ones. There are no new players (or very few), because the game is a bug ridden, poorly developed, poorly supported piece of garbage. Most everybody already knows this, but the 'deniers' who think that it's an equitable trade for new players to people leaving are the ones that I think are being overly optimistic when the game doesn't really warrant that type of optimism.
This is not as it is "with every game". Even UO had a mass exodus of people leave for Everquest years ago, and Everquest had a mass exodus of people leave as well. Dark and Light is closest to MO, being a bug ridden piece of garbage, and that was a great example of people continually quitting until the game closed shop.
You can't compare MO to other games because it isn't other games. It's now WOW, it does not have polish nor depth, or a solid roadmap to it. The design mimics closest to Dark and Light or Mourning, and we know how those wound up. And history has a tendency to repeat itself.
[Mod Edit]
I never thought I'd say this.... ever.... but even WoW is better than MO lol. Don't have to worry about Devs taking sides in PvP and interferring, no need to worry about cities suddenly being deleted and sending you falling to your death when you log in. Well I could go on.... but in short any game that works even halfway decent is better than MO.
As far as not being here if the game was as bad as people make it out to be........ well it's like a perpetual train wreck. It's hard to turn away, you have to pop in every once in awhile and see if it's really still crashing into something. Besides the stories and posts that come out of this game are hilarious.
I would actually recommend the MO section here for anyone feeling down about there game. MO is a shinning example of "It could be worse".
And yes lol, people are smart enough to know whats what when it comes to MO. I mean seriously a thread was made because someone new joined and posted a hello thread lol. I mean that alone says a lot.
I mean ... if this is note worthy...... then surely an MMO over a decade old getting new players is as well right?
UO gets a new player Aug. 5th 2011, new player recieved a warm welcome.
