I'm a fan of all mmorpg

I'm asking all ffxi player who see this post, to tell me their comment about the game.
how is it to start a new player ?
how is the crafting (if there any) ?
How the game feeling (combat, exploration) ?
how is the community (helpfull, funny ...) ?
IS there any end game content (big mobs to kill) ?
Which mmorpg  is the most similar to ffxi ?

Thx for all futur advice.

    1. How is it to start a new player?  Not too bad, except for gil is very difficult to come by early in the game.  Most mobs don't drop gil, and the ones that do will only drop 10-20 gil per kill.  The best way to do it is to stack crystals (esp. fire) and sell them on the AH.  Mobs will often drop crystals (as long as you get signet, kind of a charm you get from gate guards of your country) and they stack to 12 and sell for 1000-5000 gil depending on type.

    2. How is crafting?  Crafting is done through the guilds in each of the three main cities, and each city specializes in certain crafts- Bastok has smithing/goldsmithing/alchemy and others, the other cities have certain guilds as well.  You are welcome to join any guild, and most require a great deal of time and money to advance.  Certain skills, such as cooking and fishing, can be built up quickly and relatively cheaply and are good profit makers.  Others, like goldsmithing, require a huge amount of gil and not a lot of profit until extremely high levels.  You gain levels through crafting of items at or above your current skill level.

    3. How is the game feel?  In combat, it is amazing in a good party, downright annoying and depressing in a bad one.  In a good party, it is fast-paced as well as enjoyable.  There is always a chance in a bad party, or a bad situation, things can turn against you.  Unlike previous FF games, you never really reach a point where you can just whack away at enemies and still get good experience- healing, status affliction and planning are MORE required the higher you get.  Exploration is massive- more so than I could ever have imagined.  Its tough at times since the places you want to get to are dangerous to go solo, but with either spells or items that cast either sneak (makes you silent to enemies) or invisible (obvious one) you are safe.

    4. How is the community?  The community is what you make of it, and who you choose to associate with.  There are all types on all servers- I've found some nice people who are willing to help, others complain there is no upper level help.  Again, its all up to your approach to finding people.

    5. How is the endgame content?  There are many events for Endgame, however I am not familiar with them since I not there yet.  There is dynamis, a 64 person assault for rare drops, extremely difficult enemies, and advancing storyline.  There is the relic weapon quest, something so difficult there are only 3 confirmed completed relic weapons on ALL servers among ALL players, and it was released a year ago.  There is HNM, huge notorious monsters, which usually require an alliance of 18 people working together and are incredibly difficult mega enemies such as Behemoth, Kirin, and other new and "typical" final fantasy enemies.  Also, the expansion packs (Rise of the Zilart, Chains of Promathia) contain incredible amounts of storyline and difficulty, and often contain level caps (your level is temporarily lowered for the event) so you can play with jobs other than your main job, or with newer players you're friends with!

    6. How is FFXI similar to other MMORPGs- gonna have to leave this to someone else- this is my first MMORPG and I only played this one because its a FF- I'm a FF junkie!

Hope to see you on, if its a good match for you!

In a lot of ways, this game defines what a perfect MMORPG should be. The one drawback is that it takes so much time to do anything. Otherwise, FFXI is just an amazing game. I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun trying it out.

    FFXI is a great game.

The only reason i left was because i got sick of the "cute" atmostphere.  Great gameplay and decent community.

Though, the first 15 levels was the worst experience ive ever had in a MMORPG, it gets better as you go along.

A 7 out of 10 in my opinion, nothing innovative or special, but a GREAT smooth running game.  And i loved the way i could plug in my analog controller on my pc to play!

I’ll try my hand at answering, even though my character is still low I have lots of high lvl friends. *feels special*<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

How is it to start a new player?: This can be hard. Depending on the job you choose starting can be hard, or kind of hard. There isn’t much to do till lvl 10 on any job, but after that you can party and go to the dunes so it’s cool. After lvl 10 everything gets much more fun.

How is the crafting (if there any)?: Fishing is probably the easiest and cheapest craft. If you want to do another one, I would recommend you wait until you’re a higher lvl. Most crafts are expensive and take time. The pay off for crafting isn’t existent until you get to a pretty high lvl in that craft.

How the game feeling (combat, exploration)?: Combat is pretty cool. You can get a job that fits whatever way you like to fight, for the most part. If you like dealing damage but not taking damage then be a Black Mage. Or if you like healing then be a White Mage. Or if you like closer combat you can be a warrior or a Red Mage. And so on. Just about what ever form of combat you like there is a job that’s right for you.

Exploration is way cool. There are tons of different places. Although when you’re a low lvl you don’t have a whole lot of places to go, once you get a little higher you can go to lots of cool places.

how is the community (helpful, funny ...)?: This almost entirely depends on your link shell. If you have a good link shell then the community can be awesome; both helpful and funny. You can make friends outside your link shell, but for reliable help a good link shell is the best bet.

That’s the best I can do, hope it helps!
