So I've had 45 days of free time for DCUO and have logged in like 3 times for a grand total of about 4 hours. I just can't bring myself to play the game.
I posted a laundry list of things that bother me about the game. My top most complainst are:
Charging for added content through an in-game shop on top of a monthly subscription.
Charging for DLC (Lantern "expansion") on top of a monthly subscription.
Those are valid concerns that should rile up the neck hairs on any self respecting consumer/gamer, right? Am I the only person that is offended at what amounts to triple dipping into their customers' wallets?
The double dipping with the cash shop on top of a monthly sub is bad enough but then they turn around and want to charge for what is pretty much the only significant addition to the game since it's release. And the handful of people that still play the game are defending that kind of behavior.
Someone please let me know that I'm not Charleton Heston srounded by apes or at least enlighten me as to why I shouldn't be offended by this kind of stuff.
Noone else find this kind of thing insulting? I think that it's practices like this that have been choking the life out of this genre. All video games are getting streamlined and dumbed down and it sucks. Video games used to be the realm of the smart guy. MMOs were the pinnacle of that. They had big learning curves and lots of ins and outs, but that's what made them worth putting time into. This stuff now is the mental equivalent to making paper air-planes over and over but never actually taking them outside and throwing them, and the business models get shadier every year.

I read your post, man. You are dealing with people that think Jesus himself crapped this game on $medbucks desk. Your points are indeed valid, but presenting them to rabid, frothing at mouth $OE supporters will get the very responses and stupid pictures that were offered in response (in fact, I think the moderation on their boards encourages it by letting it happen).
$OE drools at people who are willing to settle for medicrity and is willing to fleece them till the well runs dry. The players are so starved for something, anything to do they will pony up all the money they have for what their competitors will normally give out as part of their free upddates. I don't think a lot of these people don't know what a 'good' MMO is, or how well some companies can treat their playerbase. Until they find out $OE will be able to continue their shady business practices.
You have to realize, most of the people you're dealing with are the ones that were stupid enough to buy lifetime subs to the game. That's the majority of the player base that are left. Even though all the signs were there, they believed SOE's nonsense about monthly updates etc. and got themselves so fully erect over the chance to interact with Batman that they couldn't get their wallets out fast enough.
Now that they're waking up next to Adam West instead of Christian Bale, they' so busy trying to justify their actions to themselves that they absolutely can not abide even the slightest suggestion by anyone else that they're wrong. It's like trying to have a philisophical debate with some Tibetan monk who's already set himself on fire. He's too far gone to turn back, and so are most of the players left there.
So ultimately, they'll keep throwing good money after bad...because it's only 10 bucks (For Arkham Joker) and it's only 10 bucks (For the GL stuff) and it's only 10 bucks...and on and on until that flow isn't enough and one of two things happens: The game goes F2P, or DC pulls the plug because SOE can't pay the royalties (or DC gets another MMO going like Lucas Arts did with Bioware)
