Why is there such a hold up on information about it? Maybe they went and redesigned a class similar to the Sylvari redesign process and we'll get something surprising. *here's still hoping last-ditch for mesmer*

How awesome would it be if they made a derv mesmer mixed version? A class with the mesmer skills but the derv style gear since the mesmers gear was kinda lame.
I believe they did that with the Necromancer. They melee now.
Also gear is cross class now. no class only gear system like before. so all classes can wear the gear type for that class.

What gear? All gear in GW2 is shared among professions.
It will be the mesmer and it would be impossible to change it for Anet given all they said and showed, but it will be a lot different than the GW1 mesmer.
The reason they are withholding is probably because they want to keep things unrevealed to keep hype going and because they want to show things when they are confident about them. Since the last profession has been described as the most complex and a rule-breaker that doesn't seem so far-fetched.
What do you mean, like a warrior can wear ele armor and vice versus? I haven't been keeping up on that sorta stuff to much cause I don't wanna get to excited, and end up impaitent waiting for the game.
No. There are 3 groups of professions which share armor.
Scholars wear light armor: Elementalist, Mesmer and Necromancer.
Adventurers wear medium armor: Engineer, Ranger and Thief.
Soldiers wear heavy armor: Guardian and Warrior.
Weapons are a bit more complicated but it is also shared somewhat, see:

propably monk
WOOT I want!!!
Melee Monks FTW.
Mesmer and Monk get mixed together to be a cleric. Cloth + Shield || any melee weapon combo
with mental spells like DnD Clerics/Mesmers
it fits

I hope this is sarcasm.
Anet said the last profession is a returning profession with the same name. Besides, the mesmer is explicitly named in both novels.
The class will be named mesmer..
But it will be different from the orriginal GW mesmer...
I expect a lot direct crowd controll
Also some healing skills
Maybe a spell that charms mobs and turns them intoo allies
But also some Direct damage spells
But most of all a lot of debuffs and reactionall spells..
Noboddy knows what the msmer will play like...

Necromancer's dont melee. Axe and dagger are used like a focus to cast spells.
They have heavy armored profession which uses magic, the Guardian, I think Mesmer will be the opposite, light armored profession that can melee.
Oh as to why they haven't revealed the Msmer yet, they need something big to reveal at PAX, which is on their home ground.
They are used as a focus to cast point blank spells. They are melee. They have the second highest hit points of any class.
Having close ranger spells does not make them melee. Melee is physical combat. And gurdian would have more hit points than a necromancer.
Except they don't have more hit points. The Guardian has the second fewest hit points, only the Elemenatlist has less.
Could you please link us to some proof of this?

I am a long time guild wars player and I could not be more excited to see what this last class will be. The mesmer is such a unigue class and I would love to see it implemented into GW2, but there is one class I would rather see...the Ritualist. I play a ritualist in GW and it is such a fun class!
But I know that the rit will not be placed into GW2 because...they kind of took two of the main elements from the ritualist class and put them into the guardian (weapon spells and spirits).
Oh well...my close second would be the mesmer so I am happy to see the class being the favorite for the last class slot.

It's going to be a Mesmer for sure. That's no surprise. What will be a surprise and very interesting to see, is how it's implemented and what skills it has, how it plays out and everything. I'm sure the Mesmer for GW2 will have a few new tricks up its sleeve

Those numbers are probably nowhere near final but still.
If it is a mesmer, I hope its one that can fight with its barehands as an option. But I dont see why it would. It'll most likely use wands, swords, and pistols. Maybe it it will be a assassin hybrid. But a martial artist mesmer would be awesome. For me any other kung fu fan out there.
Whatever it is, I have a feeling it wont be subtle. And if its not mesmer, there will be some angry nirds around here heh.
Mesmerizer
Most iconic of the GW professions so makes sense to keep the hype in a bottle until it's ready?
Implementation may be the most complex of all eg if the Engi is a precedent with different skill packs etc. So I sorta think the Skill Bar of the Mesmer could involve some rapid shuffling of skills somehow? Also expect weapons to include rapier-sword and pistol at least. I wonder if the Mesmer will be so designed as to use illusions, changing players' skills use at all?

Cleric is pretty much out because aside from it requiring religion as a magic source (only the humans worship gods), its function is taken by guardian. Heavy armor, low health, mix of melee and magic, support focus.
They have stated that a necromancers are intended to be a very durable class. Axe and warhorn are all very close-range spell, and they have very high health.
Elementalists, however, can also fight in near-melee range. An elementalist with dual daggers is definitely going to be in the front lines. List of elementalist skills
Every class has a variety of options for fighting at nearly any range.
Necromancers can use the same weapons as elementalists along with axes and warhorns. I suspect that mesmers will also be able to use the same weapons as the elementalist, but with the addition of swords and torches. Swords seem fitting to mesmers (original GW1 artwork shows a mesmer with a sword), and a torch is perfect for an illusionist (smoke and mirrors). Also, every off-hand item can be used by exactly three classes except for torch, which currently is usable by two. Sword and torch will probably be their close-range option, and they may likely have medium health, giving them an enchanting fencer feel.

I have a hard time seeing the Mesmer as a melee class at all. This is full on personal bias of course, because I've always had the impression from GW1, that Mesmer's are far too refined and aristocratic to engage in something so working class as *sniff* fisticuffs.
I actually could see them wielding a rapier since fencing is a time-honored tradition among the genteel, but nothing clunkier than that. Still, fencing in a corset will be difficult.
*sigh* I really want that reveal ...
I'd say its going to be the... MESMER!!!!!!!
I say at Gamescom/PAX we get the last profession revealed, and a few more dungeons revealed 2-4. Along with the stuff already getting revealed then I'd say they announce a closed beta test in Sept. or Oct. with an Open Beta in November then release the Game in Dec. or Early Jan. considering all things go well. Ugh god I just did it in right there with that last sentence...
