Why do fans of GW2 get upset when people say GW1 shares some similarities to the game?

I'm getting tired of it honestly.

The two games share the same IP, The hall of monuments link both games, both games will have pvp arena options and both games main story arcs are fully instanced.

When i bring this up i get jumped on by every damn fanboy because using the term instance is suddenly a terrible thing lol.

I pulled up an older blog with one of the devs or PR people of GW2 actually saying the main story arc is heavily instanced... yet i still get attacked for making a comment like that...

Heres the quote:

While there will be instancing in GW2 it will be reserved for dungeons and also for what World of Warcraft fans would call phasing. Lead Designer Eric Flannum explains, “Dungeons, for example, are instanced areas designed for group play. We also use instancing very heavily in the players’ personal quest chain to reflect decisions that the player has made on those quests.” Flannum also explains that GW2 will be set up more like a traditional MMO where the world is full of players and has a persistent nature, “The game is structured much more like other MMOs, with the world consisting almost entirely of fully persistent areas.”

Now can we please stop getting so upset when someone says GW2 uses instancing for the players personal storyline?

I mean seriously is it a crime that the games have similarities? as far as im concerned GW1 was one of the best games ever. it had amazing pvp, a marvelous storyline and a wonderful game world with rich lore. I honestly would be honored if my game of choice shared similarities with it.

You guys gotta chill out please lol.

I for one haven't seen anyone jump down someone's throat for saying anything about similarities from GW1 to GW2 unless it was an uninformed person saying something like, "GW2 is just a remake of GW1" or something along those lines.

Personally GW2 isnt enough like GW1. I want my instances/dual class system and monks damn it. LFGing healers makes the game last so much longer.

I agree with Zeppelin. I've never seen GW2 fans spaz out because people mention similarites between the games. They have similarties, they're pretty damn obvious and I'm pretty damn sure most if not all GW2 fans recognize them.

The problem that does arise though is that some people who don't bother informing themselves or are just hating on the game and spout out bullshit about there being nothing new or that its the same as GW1 (i.e. instanced world, click to move, no jumping or swimming, etc.).

the problem is that ppl who dont know(or are totally ignorant and unwilling to look it up) about GW2 think that its exactly like GW1 which has heck load of instancing.... Yes Dungeons in GW2 will be instanced, "some" parts of personal story(NOT all) will also contain instancing. When you bring up instancing and GW2 in 1 statement... the fanboys will pounce on you thinking your one of the many foes they must pounce on and bring down with their slander.... hope that answers it :)

It's when they say the entire game is instanced  is when problems occur, and ignorance is exposed. Personal storyline isn't the entire game. It runs paralell to Guild Wars 2's 1500 dynamic events, the persistent content of the game.

I just wished people would relax a bit.

The majority of us are looking forward to GW2, while i do understand that the trolls like to bring up instancing just to get the fans upset not everyone is like that lol.

Personally i like that the storyline is instanced (the the important areas) because that means the storyline will be of single player rpg quality just like GW1.

Im a fan of that stuff.

People will relax when idiots inform themselves and assholes go away, but that is unlikely to happen any time soon (if ever) and we will still get people claiming that Guild Wars 2 is nothing different than Guild Wars 1.

How dare you! HOW DARE YOU!!!  We GW2 fans are a dedicated lot, that will not stand for bad press in any way, shape or form. Sure, there are situations where it would seem that you are playing in an instance, but we've created a new term called "Personal Storyline" in which the player is in a "not-so-persistant environment with limited other player capabilities"  Dungeons share similar characteristics as well, but don't get all up in our faces about it because that bird just don't fly.

Honestly, I think the reason that so many people get up in arms about the whole idea, is that we've heard so many people talk about how GW1 isn't an MMO, and the instanced gameplay means it shouldn't even be talked about in these forums, because it's not an MMO, I mean, after all it's instanced, so therefore it's not an MMO.  Personally, I am almost ready to take a bat to the next person that says it!  lol

GW2 is a new game, and a viable MMO. It is not the same game as GW, but it is built off of it's strong points.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

Actually is it probably because a some people have stated that GW2 is a CORPG like the first game, which it isn't.

But believing that Guildwars 2 wont have things in common with Guildwars is rather stupid, it is a sequal.

It will be different with most zones completely open, no healers, player crafting, massive PvP battles, huge open world bosses that up to a 100 players can fight with and so on but there are similarities as well. The skill system is not that different, guild and arena PvP will most likely have similarities, the lore is spinning off from the old GW lore and so on.

I like GW and I actually want GW2 to have the good stuff from the first game. But I also want an open game.

There are a few things that doesn't sounds to great about it as well and there are many uncertain things like how fun running DEs will be long term.

But I will surely buy it and probably play it for a long time, I still play GW.

You must of saw one or two posts where someone got upset because overall, nobody here gets upset at all. It was quite pointless to make this thread.
