If this game had combat like the force unleahed I guarantee I would sub for years. As of right now if I'm bored I might pick this up for the storyline.

On the PC i wasn't too impressed with the first Force Unleashed but i loved it in the 2nd for the very short time it lasted. If Bioware had used that combat I would buy a lifetime sub if offered in a heart beat and i never go lifetime.
This will devastate Bioware Austin for sure. But there is still Bioware Edmonton's Mass Effect 3 to be released and I read that Bioware Mythic is going to announce something for Pax Prime.
But yeah overall this will remain a huge stain on Bioware's Curiculum Vitae

For some companies yes, but I'd hardly consider DA2 as a game to warrant that kind of backlash. It's not great, but it's not what I would consider a "bad apple" I mean it's not like it was of that kind of poor quality. It just wasn't as good as people wanted it to be, or expect of Bioware. A lot of companies would have been praised for a game like that, perspective people come on...
Haha, its a matter of opinion. I would consider that game pretty horrible no matter what company made it, they completely focused on the wrong things for that game. So much so that they are trying to change many things in their little DLC Legacy. They have also said they know many things were wrong with the game and will change them in futre expansions. Now, if you personally thing this game was ok, awesome!
Personally didn't like either DA game, too cliche and too LOTR style fantasy for my taste. I still played through DA2 though out of boredom a few nights, it was okay in my opinion in terms of mechanics, VO, writing and production quality. It's just not what I am into. MY gf on the other hand never stops talking about DA2, it's her favorite game, well that or little big planet.

If they release it and just sit back and call it complete and wait for the money to roll in this game is going to implode from people demanding things they had in WoW.
Not sure if SWToR fans realize this, but you game is about to get RUSHED. Not Aion/Rift/WAR rushed, but rushed by a severely large percent of WoW players and one hell of a lot of gold sellers. I vote give it a month before even trying to log in because it is going to be a nightmare.
3 Million is definitely not far fetched as this is the most well known ip in the market industry. This bascially means most of the sales will come in the first week,it's not like there is a bunch of gamers that have never heard of this game before.
There is also the fact that if a game gives even a remote chance to be a big seller, retailers will buy far more than they need ,crates and crates to create a better profit/cost margin.
I do find it very hard to believe this game will maintain more than 2 million subs beyond the first month. The current trend of gamers is to act like they are in some race, they will all frantically play to see who can reach some magical end game first. This means most of the player base will reach a verdict on this game easily by the second third week. Most now days cry for more casual, but i bet the average player will be playing 6+ hours a day at 2 weeks that is 80+ hours of game play. This is why i feel the game will have a significant drop off after the very first month.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

QFT. My wife finally just quit playing WoW and, according to her, SW:ToR and GW2 are the biggest topics of discussion in trade talk. If Blizz thought 900k loss was bad, just wait. I hope that Bioware is planning on strictly enforcing their EULA. I'm not looking forward to the damn "Chuck Norris jokes", etc.
I think this game is going to great out the gate commercial wise, but I seriously doubt it will have much retention.
Hope you guys like WoW+star wars+mass effect quest interface and voice acting for every single quest. I know some think that would be awesome but spending most of my time listening to quest dialogue and about 300 milliseconds of action for every 1.5 seconds of waiting doesn't sound like much fun to me.
It is quite possible for 3 million in sale with such a well known and loved IP. I have no doubts that this game will be successful. I won't be playing it though as I'm not a Star Wars fan. But I hope all you true fans enjoy your game.
Yea, i am angry like nobody in this world on Bioware. Cant preorder from my country
You can, just dont try from the EA store. Amazon etc will let you pre-order from outside of the starter regions and send you your codes instantly or in a few days which let you play a few days before release up until few days to a week after the release date. Just add a retail code after to continue playing.
This is good news, having positive expectations on sales around the current pre-order rate, based on the analysts interpretation. I pre-ordered one; but then again, I pre-ordered STO and didn't last a month there.
At any rate, Bioware has already comfortably (talking futures) broke-even, plus some, if this titles' development cost is $100 million.
But none-the-less, it is encouraging to see that there is a large 'interest' base, and there typically is with mainstream high-budget mmorpgs, so no shocker there. Whether Bioware can 'sustain' the subscribership of much of their base, is another story.
EA are masters of overestimating their sucess. Just look at new Medal of Honor.
They thought it will outsell Modern Warfare Black ops
On the end they sold like 20 thousand copies while black ops sold millions.
Anyway. 1 Million sold seems like realistic number for swtor. And in 3 months 400 000 subscribers.
Eh, this didn't come from EA. EA isn't overestimating anything, if anything EA was blown away by its preorder numbers, I think for EA this game will exceed expectations.
As for outselling CoD, EA has been hanging in there, and BF3 seems like it may just be the big hit they need to finally overtake that franchise. I always enjoyed the BF games better anyways, no matter the popularity of CoD.

It's just the better franchise no question about it. Hell what made COD MP popular was that they ripped off BF2's progression system. Sorry off topic but I couldn't resist .

It's good to see that there is still going to be fun in the chat channels as well as the gameplay itself. Looking forward to it.

I read the analysts predictions earlier today, and haven't had time to look into it yet, but does anyone here know what kind of track record this particular group has with these predictions? 2-3 million seems about right to me, but I'd like to know if these guys generally know what they're talking about.
They said they'd be doing a lot of beta tests in September and I hope that means they'll be inviting a lot of players. Not just because I want in but to stress test the servers. Imagine opening day and 3 million people trying to download/log in.

There was a recent quote I read somewhere on this site, taken from an article where one of the founders said they were going to basically hold back copies at launch, to make sure the launch was succesful. So even if these analysts are right and they sell 3 million in the first year, that may mean only 500k or something at launch, with more and more dribbled out to stores throughout the year.
Actually pretty smart if you think about it, since so many MMO's have horrible login queues in the early weeks. It also ensures there are always "new players" being pumped into low end zones, as opposed to everybody hitting max level in the first couple of months and the n00b areas turning into ghost towns.
This is exactly why I pre-ordered. I don't want to show up at BestBuy on launch day and find out they aren't going to have any in stock for months, like when I wanted to buy an iPhone 4!
I plan to buy it. I'm thinking the few remaining SWG players will probably try it. Especially since they won't have SWG any longer. I'm hoping it turns out to be a great game.
I preordered 2 CE for the wife and myself awhile back, looking to be a permanent subscriber to this game. I haven't said that since eq1 beta back at the end of 1998, very much looking forward to swtor!!

Recall that these same analysts mentioned 2-months ago, after their hands-on, that SWTOR is a Highly Derivative Clone of WoW and were and were largely unimpressed. http://www.videogamer.com/news/swtor_is_highly_derivative_clone_of_wow_says_analyst.html
Clearly Bioware and Star Wars fans are giving Bioware the benefit of the doubt, as will I for the time-being.
Optimistic.
But very far from truth.

It has great potential. But so did War... and Conan.
Regardless, I went ahead and grabbed up a CE pre-order just in case!

I believe it. Didn't WAR and AoC sell around 700K a piece their first month?
People are chomping at the bit for a game they can play longer than a month, and Star Wars has much more appeal than those two games.
They will certainly have my sub. I don't think 3 million would be shock given the ip. Looks to be a very polished product from what I've seen so far.
It's good to see that there is still going to be fun in the chat channels as well as the gameplay itself. Looking forward to it.
