Theres CM and Dev statements that they are dealing with the issue, in a proper manor with an in depth investigation, and people will be rolled back.

The mods havent over censored the forums, theyve kept discussion to one thread, very standard practice, thats 62 pages long and quite civil.

The actual people abusing the mechanic certainly arent in huge numbers, on most servers the average player hasnt even noticed a difference or anything going on.

As usual people want to make mountains out of molehills, and with a thread title like 'Rift is Sinking' its obvious what is trying to be done here...

lol, If I believe all of these doom threads, there would be no need for websites like MMORPG.COM because every game I read about is in its final days.

I self identify as a monkey.

    Darkfall?  Check.

    Tabula Rasa?  Check.

    Star Trek Online?  Check.

    DC Universe Online?  Check.

And those are the prolific ones who have lost their way.  And in a number of those you had official forum mods "policing" their boards and fanbois trying to bury problems.  AoC even went with having Fanbois as o'board forum moderators when people were angry about the game's state when we were there at launch.

People bringing up issues in whatever level of tact are the reverse of people like you... the guys who bury their heads in the sand and hope nothing is really wrong.

What about WOW? considering it has always been heavily censored. Sorry but your logic makes no sense. I don't know i would rather be the guy with head in sand than a crazy eyed one with tin foil on head.

You provided one answer and reply, with that single answer from a game over 7 years ago?

You go on and say with your single answer that WoW's own o-boards are "heavily censored" but go on and say that it doesn't make sense that they police the boards.

    Okay.

Then again, you acknowledge yourself to be the little bird burying their faces in the dirt.  Go figure.

Your logic is still a fail considering successful or not successful; old or new all MMOS heavily censor their boards especially when it comes to exploit. But hey you are one of those 'crazy eyed tin foil hat guys' so go figure.

Rift pretty much ripped almost everything from WoW and WAR, he's spot on.

As far as the the exploits, Rift's community relations team is renowned for being horrible when dealing with game issues.

Communication is a word that's not familiar to them. That's why I stopped playing beta.

Apparently Nixon should have hired Trion to cover up Watergate, because I see no evidence of RIFT sinking in any way, shape or form.  Server pops are holding steady and nobody that I know has quit.

Any game where you dont have a dynamic world where players can affect it will ultimately fail.

People no longer wishes to live in static worlds where the only thing you can affect is the gear you wear.

Someone's local grocer had a sale on Aluminum foil it seems.

Forums that are ran by the studio should be censored when it comes to exploits and general ass-hattery. They provide zero in terms of constructive feedback/critisism, and do nothing but drag the rest of the community down.  Its one thing to post on the forums, " hey, i found this bug. who do i email to detail the steps so that i can be fixed?" its a whole other ball of wax to post, "OMFG! IF YOU DO X AND Y, Z WILL RESULT! FAIL COCKMOUTH CHUCKNORRIS TROLL THE DEVELOPER SUCKS AND NEEDS TO GO BANKRUPT DROOL!" And then it seems when the latter posts are deleted, suddenly there is a coverup conspiracy.

If you want to talk about a real coverup, look at El Interactive and the billing shit storm they created with Horizons.

    I don't understand.

Rift is "sinking" because they had a pvp exploit in the game that they've already delt with and dont want a million threads on the subject so they are deleting them?

    Anyone else confused?

Umm tell that to the millions of people that play games like WoW, Rift, Lotro, Aion and others.

if people wanted games that didnt revolve around gear the non-gear based games wouldnt have .0001% of the population those games listed.

But of course WoW and War built on games that came before them . I do acknowlaged though it did remind me of a mix of War and WoW but I really don't care if its a good game . If we applied the same rule to first person shooters we would still be calling them Doom clones (not that you did call it a clone) but we grew out of that bit of stupidity years ago because its now a genre . Shame we can't to the same yet for mmos .

Quite frankly anyone that expects decent communications when the game is in beta isn't living in the real world( or even in the virtual world lol ) . Totally different if that persisted months after release when your actually paying a subscription to the product .

The only reason I did'nt play Rift more than a few months was the specs were a little too high for my PC for it to run smoothly enough to be enjoyable but I would say its one of the few mmos worth subbing too even though it does have issues such as leveling being a bit too fast ,linear gameplay with only two starter areas and the game world being comparitivly small .

I agree. Some people like tinuelle there seem to live in an alternate universe where things are the way they want them to be.

Open your eyes man, those games are EXACTLY the successfull ones

I've been checking the site for years and years checking up on the next games I'd want to try out, but I've never felt the need to register to post.

I'd just like to add that yes, the exploit was abused for way too long without a patch, seeing as when they finally "patched" it, all they did was remove any reward you got from actually contesting source stone carriers from pvp rifts.

Seeing as that one is patched (there's a new one, but it's really not as bad, but I'm sure they'll patch it) I don't think there's any harm in explaining it::

One faction opens a pvp rift, pick up a source stone, thus "activating it", once they have it, they either let the other faction kill them, or they simply right clicked the buff, dropping the stone, and when the stone gets picked up by the other faction, everyone close by/in the raid got (I believe) 200 prestige and some favor (don't remember the amount). People who did this continuously got everywhere from 30k to 50k prestige an hour, and they were bragging about it.

I believe the exploit was available between friday and wednesday, and not two weeks unless my mind is losing time, but regardless that is an insane amount of time seeing as the fix they did was just disabling rewards altogether, while the warrior damage thing yesterday was patched within hours of the previous patch introducing the problem.

The only Trion staff that has commented about it since the patch said that "it was fixed" in the wednesday patch, while the problem really is that the cat is already out of the bag, or whatever is in pandoras box has already gotten out. The problem is exploiters completely ruining all PVP (and if you actually check the R8 stuff, weapons primarily) it beats the PVE stuff too

I wish people would read into this story rather than instantly believe the over exaggerated story that the OP and a few others are claiming. Here's a few points so you know what's really going on.

    1. It's not a bug and not really an exploit. I'd say it's more along the line of clever use of game mechanics. All it is is the Defiants and Guardians working together to achieve max favor/prestige per hour... nothing more.

    2. Trion IS doing something about it. They've stated time and time again that it's easy to discipline everyone in one sweeping pass by doing rollbacks, but that's not fair to those who actually earned their gains the right way. They are investigating to make sure those who are disciplined are deserving of it... this is no easy feat and it takes time.

    3. To those who are claiming the sky is falling and that this has been going on for weeks are clearly exaggerating. PvP Rifts have not been out that long. And honestly, I don't understand how people getting access to gear that is equally as accesible to other players is game breaking... it makes no sense to me.

This thread was moved over into the proper forum from The Pub. However, a thread on the topic already exists here: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/431/view/forums/thread/324055/Massive-Exploit-Swept-Under-Carpet.html

Going to lock this one as a duplicate.
