I read this article at DarthHater about morality gear. It's one of the things I did not know about the game or did not remember reading. I have to say I like the idea for the most part but there are lots of questions for me as to how this is going to work.
http://darthhater.com/2011/08/10/morality-gear/
" Morality gear is restricted by character alignment and can only be equipped by characters with the correct alignment tier. If you find a blaster with a Light II restriction, you can only equip it if your character is Light II or higher. These restrictions can apply to armor, weapons, relics and may even include items that are not gear, such as consumables. Crafted, PvP, dungeon and raiding gear can all have morality restrictions as well."
So gear has morality levels and if you do not have the right level or the right alignment you can not use the gear. You have to level up your light/dark side levels much like a class level.
I really can't see how they will do the loot drops for this. Will they increase the amount of light loot drops for a republic group. will they do a 50/50 drop. will they drops be based on the make up of your group.
What happens to those that trytry to stay gray do they get the shaft gear wise?
What does everyone think? Do you think it will work well or do you think it will just make more whining when it comes to gear drops.
I can feel your anger. This game is defenseless. Take your weapon. Strike this game down with all of your hatred, and your journey towards towards the Dark Side will be complete.

I don't know how they will distribute the different types of gear, but they have said there will be gear with no alignment on them for those that want to stay neutral.

LS/DS is one gear faucet, and not a particularly plentiful one. There are many gear faucets in the game (random drops, crafting, quest, etc). Someone who chooses to eschew the LS/DS system will be able to find workarounds.
It's a delicate balance because, for example, there are often conflicts between LS/DS and companion affection. We want choices to matter, and so there are some minor results for LS/DS and affection, but we also want people to be able to 'play the story'. BioWare storytelling is, ultimately, most interesting when it's a Rorschach test, and you're not choosing to pump points up a meter. We want people to see tangible benefits for those choices, but not be so overpowering that the player feels hamstrung by them.

30:00: DB: I'm getting a bunch of questions on Twitter from various people. We've said that we've got Light Side rewards and Dark Side rewards depending on your alignment. What about for people who want to stay right in the middle as a gray area?
SR: As in neutral?
DB: Yes.
JO: Yes, if you decide to thread the needle and you decide to be a neutral character, there are items specifically for you.
Nice thanks Gaou. You are like a ships computer system from Star Trek. Next time I have I question I will just say Gao: Morality Gear and I will get the info I am looking for.

Oh cool, so the consumable item "baby" will only be available to Dark Side players I take it?
They've already said they will be using a "welfare loot system," everyone in the party gets their own individual loot containers, so your allignment has no bearing at all on what drops everyone else in the party recieves.
interesting
That's not entirely true. There will be "commendations" in loot containers; however, not all loot containers have them, and they are in lieu of any items being dropped. From my understanding, you'll have a random drop OR you'll get a commendation/token/dead baby seal (whatever they're calling it), to be able to obtain the gear you want.
The one thing is that neutral gear will not be a no aligment style gear. It will be Neutral. In order to be neutral you need to be within 100 points either way of 0. That will be very hard for people to do. Bioware wants to make neutral a choice but one that will not be easy to acomplish.
yea thornbread got it right

Seen a few quotes on staying "grey" being harder than just going light or dark, sometimes (in games) going the less traveled path reaps better rewards
This idea will be fine if they have equal tiered gear for all alignment types ranging from extreme light side, middle of the road, and extreme darkside. If they don't, you'll have players gaming the system, meaning they'll make choices in their story they normally wouldn't in order to get the light/dark points needed for the strongest gear.
