i can report it has nothing on Planetsides scale and action/feeling ... a good game yes, but not even close to replace PS. I actually think BF1942 is still the best in this series.
I pretty much agree completely. BF2 is a great game. But Planetside is just Planetside. gonna tke alot more than fancy graphics to bring down the PSide

Thing people keep forgetting is that planetside is made for massive combat. You can have even with the new pop lock per continent 200 per side. And it often happens to have a 3 way battles thus 600 ppl fighting at same time usually close to one base.
Thats the key of it.I am not going to debate gameplay or graphics.Fact is BF2 is only 64 players on same map as maximum.
I want to see another PS style game which allows hundreds on same map .
I personaly dont get BF2, its nice, but its too much like a single player counterstrike with some crappy vehicles. Great graphics, sucky gameplay, bad balancing... and OMG, team mates in tanks running over other team mates and then saying "Sorry buddy"...made me laugh actually hehehe
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
Well, as someone who owns PlanetSide and the full version of BF2. for ballz out intense action BF2 really cant be topped. Not to say PS dosent have that too, PS just does it differently. Personally I would like to share my idea for a "next-gen MMOFPS".
Near future setting along the lines of BF2. Inital game world about the size of World War 2 Online (to be expanded on with updates and expansions) Bases laid out along the same lines as in PS (dropship center, Tech plant, etc) each serving its purpose. Make most bases locked to capture until nearest linked base is captured effectvly creating a "front line" so action is easy to find Skill based character progression starting with basic equipment use topping out with the most advanced (e.g. armored skill - starts with Hummer-leads to Main Battle Tank, just an example) Independent Rank progression from Private to Colonel (GM's would be Generels) allowing special skills to be unlocked in your prefered skill tree
just a few ideas as to what would make an awesome MMOFPS
persoanlly i love PlanetSide, but i think its come time for another game to take the torch and run with it because MMOFPS's could really hit the big time with the right formula

Really like your ideas for the MMOFPS, maybe a developer will happen across this and take note. I too own both games, and must agree that they are 2 entirely different gaming experiences. BF2 is awesome when you find a good server with squads that actually work together. Planetside is also awesome in it's own regard, minus the long time it seems to take to get a battle point, and buzz lightyear looking robots jumping about...where'd that dayum infil run off to?

I to think BF2 is great when you get on a good server and team, It can be intense at times and very fun. I think when some of the mods come out it will be alot better. I own planetside to but after playing it I couldnt see paying for it , seems almost the same as battlefield to me.
It is annoying that 2 years after planetside no FPS has come out that entails massive combat at PS scale.
I know initally there was no population lock on PS so instead of maximum 600 people on one continent we used to have over 1k ppl on a continent but downside was after an hour or so the server crashed.
It be good if someone would now take that the PS code is well over 3 years and with newer technology see if they can make one with 1k plus on same land mass.
But one thing i seen .I know many many friends/co workers that are FPS(much more then RPG ) lovers. Many i have given or shown where to get free trials.Very frew like the idea of paying but all loved PS for the scale of the battles.
If people accept the concept of paying to play maybe we will eventually have companies willing to make and maintain servers for MMOFPS rather then small number of players servers.
I also played Battlefoeld 1942 and the Battlefild 2 demo. They both sucked because for some strange reason theres no autorun button. You constantly have to hold down W or whatever key you have assigned to move forward.

How is it like Planetside? THey're like apples and oranges. BF2 has its moments, I just wish they had more than capture, hold, oh no watch out for spawn campers, move onto next point, capture and hold etc.
Planetside is similar but has far more options, hack & hold, LLU, HUGE zergs, breaking links to limit tech vehicles etc...
