I love day/night cycles, it is one of my favorite things in LOTRO. I love sploroing and this just adds to it for me. When i am in Moria I turn AMB light all the way down. It makes for some creepy and fun gameplay. However, it includes a lot of walking off cliffs=)I do not think any game should not have it.

Yeah i would have liked day night cycles, not sure why they choose to go without it, something about getting all the planets light cycles to work together or some weird thing like that. Whatever, wasn't a good reason in my eyes, the reason they used that lighting is important to not only the characters during cinematic cutscenes but lighting of the buildings as well to make them look better was a much better reason but i still couldn't see not having one. Whichever, game won't be perfect and i agree with you, but  as long as it feels okay like it did in kotor then i'm cool with it. Not like day or night does much in games beyond the first few times you see it. Now if night made new monsters spawn and errie mist (yeah i know it's not a SW thing) then Day/night would be more important, but you did state it wasn't a game breaker. So oppertunity missed, oh well.

     CONCUR

It's totally a SW thing!  Look at Luke when he went to Dagobah to meet Yoda.  Super mist and fog!!

Wow i'm totally into the sci-fi thing and thinking how can robots, advance space ships and lights everywhere possibly have mist..mind must have completely skipped over the dogobah scene. okay that was a face palm moment fo rme...happens

Okay nix the comment in parenthesis then. But yeah, totally if there was a point to night/day cycles in a game beyond simply oh the buildings look darker. Then i might be worried more about it, but it really depends on how the game is implementing this and thats something i'd refuse to judge until i've gotten to see it.  I would have liked it in there, not a big deal if it isn't.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

    1. Day/night cycles can be added later

    2. To jump or not is dependant on level design. I mean you don't hear gamers complaining about not being able to swim in sand, but if that was a part of the level design then people would want it in every game they have.

    3. Vertical movement is not hard to add to a game if desired. the reason WoW did not do it for Azeroth in BC was that Azeroth had lots of badly mapped areas at that time that would need remapping... which they did in catyclysm. I would prefer them to do the WoW way and add it after they have ironed out the problems with other issues.

    4. There is no seperate factions, there is a sliding scale that determines how characters react to you, in a way this is more realistic. You have to pick a side to determine which side of the war you are on (as you would in a real war)... but picking sith doesn't mean you can't pick the nice choices.

LoL, no worries, that's what us Star War nerds are for :)

And this is all I'm saying.  It's not something that's critical to the game, just something that, I suspect (and speaking for myself), will feel missing in an MMO.

Concur.  Save for #4.  There are seperate factions; the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire.  I understand that, regardless of faction alignment, a player is able to make their own decisions and gain light/dark side points.  My stance is simply that, traditionally (and in the movies), the two classes, BH and Smuggler, don't have a set faction alignment.  I understand that the devs did this for simplicity and to balance the two factions.  I was just saying that it would have been nice for the devs to stick with traditional, and already established, roles for said classes.

I don't know anything about making a video game, but I can imagine that I wouldn't want to go through 4-5 plus years worth of voice acting and story scripting to impliment these changes.  It's just my observations :)  I hope they choose to impliment these features in future expansions.

Let me get this straight. TOR made by Bioware, a company that keeps thumping its chest about how good they are at creating immersion (in fact their entire reputation is built upon it) has not put in planetary cycles in their game?

Real day/night cycles without purpose are not needed imo. It would have been a nice middle ground if there was a bright and dimmer cycle. It doesn't have to be drastic or have a purpose just a cosmetic difference.

The others for me are personal preference dependant on the game itself and the mechanics implemented my opinion would change. I would really like it to have a far more involved crafting system that had a proper market, driven by decay and a non-item based loot system, I would like far more sandbox option regarding housing, I would like targeting pvp. But I'm not getting any of those unfortunately, Guess we just have to see what we do get and either accept it or move on.

*chuckles*  Now that did give me a good laugh.  Now, if only I could step out my front door, step on an ant and have it shower me with gold coins, life would be perfect.

In some seriousness, it's really not a perpectual world if the world itself isn't alive and isnt programmed for something as easy as "rotation".  It's rotation period is 24 hours (Galactic Standard), and it does have one Sun.

I remember reading it had to do with their skyboxes being very large as to why they did not include a night/day cycle. Also it would be kinda hard for for each planet to have their own unique day/night cycle, plus what would you do with tatoinee (sp).

    In Bioware we trust!

Have both suns with Tatooine set at the same time.

Disappointed too by the lack of 3D movement.

Long time ago when they admitted there will be jumping in TOR, the dev said 3D exploration was very important to them. Somehow you could expect jetpacks, force jump and grappling hooks.

I still remember this thread: Clicky

Opposite to yours I'd like very high mountains, towers or radio antennas that you can climb up to the top and gape at the surroundings.

There would be some challenges (minigames?) making the climbing difficult, like:

    • wind blowing

    • rain /snow

    • icy surface

    • flying or crawling creatures attacking you

    • falling debris

    • need to find the climbing path

    • only being able to keep an hold for a few seconds so you need to find the next one fast. Maybe add a "strength" pool

    • timed climb... to avoid an explosion or be picked up in time by your ship

Also it would be awesome if you could climb very high from one side then need to jump down to the other one to reach your destination. You could use jet packs, force powers, parachutes or portable wings to manage your fall.

The fall would last a few seconds such as afterwards you would say wow I made it!

    ;)

It's sad that we're ending without all this.
