I participated in their weekly Dev Chat. . . http://www.ustream.tv/channel/pitch-black-games . . .and won a T-Shirt from one of the Question & Answer contests. Heh...I was willing to trade it in for a testing spot, but no chance. *damn*
What I heard during this session and reading from the expanded explanations on the Web site, along with their recent more-involved reveal of Crafting & Professions. . . http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/27/prime-battle-for-dominus-shows-off-crafting-and-professions/ . . .things look really promising. Perhaps bringing back DAOC's much-missed three way faction brawls to a much greater extent. But my own personal caveat is that I also thought Earthrise looked promising long ago, and we know how that turned-out.
Regardless, I give new studios every opportunity to prove themselves, and will do the same with Pitchblack Games.
Here's to hoping that within their FvF/PvP model, they actually go 'beyond' being another purposeless Third-Person Shooter and develop a feature-rich breadth and depth of open-world mmo game, with base-building complexities, and having purpose and meaning around FvF/PvP which motivates factions to engage each other, territory control along with rewards for the victors, and penalties for the losers.
At least to a point (the afformentioned) that which makes the winning faction's community cheer, while making the opposing faction work a bit harder without discouraging well-coordinated involvement and continued game-play. My understanding is that Faction Advancement relies on fighting for access to Prime, but how that is actually intertwined with game-play that remains "fresh" and motivational for a prolonged period of time is unknown.

There is targeting with tab key, it is not a shooter -- Global Agenda is a shooter, you do not lock targets in there, you aim
