Looking for Sandbox MMO

TheFirstSinTheFirstSin Member Posts: 29

im looking for a good Sandbox mmo...i posted another thread about an action mmo, i got a suggestion to play dragons nest so i did. its a nice game, good action. but, i really want something thats open for discovery, a good sandbox mmo. ive tried mortal online, way to broken. i tasted darkfall back when it was fresh, still didnt sit right for me...

im looking for a type of sandbox mmo that you can develop characters into unique class type characters, like in WoW. instead of everyone specializing into x-x-x to get the most out of pve/pvp.

ive also played EvE, way back in the day. loved the enviroment, but the lack of actual movement made me want to fall asleep at my desk, with that nice calm sci-fi track and needing to warp, jump, warp, jump over and over lol. oh, and advancement was a tad too slow, if anything i wanted to become a viable attack fighter, but since i didnt know how to pve at all i was forced into mining for my money, tho it was quite profitable.

so, any suggestions for a sandbox mmo is greatly appreciated! hell, if you know a sandbox console (ps3) or single player pc game, drop the name! thanks in advance guys

I'm not really sure what you mean, because to me this is exactly what happens in WoW. Besides, why would you NOT want to specialize into a good build to get the most out of PvP and PvE? In WoW, you have to take certain talents just to even compete, or be considered viable.

If you are looking for more customization, look at one of the few skill based games out there. Eve or Asheron's Call are two that I have enjoyed.

If all you are looking for is a polished game that you can explore and have different things to do, in my opinion it doesn't get much better than WoW or LOTRO right now. Maybe EQ2 but I haven't played it.

If you're like the rest of us and honestly have no clue what you're looking for, then that's a whole new story and I can't help you there.

well what i mean is like, in darkfall you have the skill based system, but Everyone and their mother takes archery, magic, and two handed weapons. it may not be in that order, and im sure one skill is going to be higher built than the other 2, but its pretty much what everyone does.....i do know what i want, it just seems like the games of the sandbox variety arnt really well made lol...

I completely understand how that feels then. Unfortunately there is not much out there right now. I have just been searching for a game with a good comunity first and good gameplay second. LOTRO fills this gap for me at the moment, although I don't play enough to really get into the game. It still feels like WoW, which I am utterly sick of.

Good luck in your quest for the perfect game. Hope you find one!

Have either of you guys tried Vanguard? It has sandbox elements and the classes are pretty cool. As for the community, as far as I can tell, it's second to none. I just picked it up a couple weeks ago. I'm enjoying the world and I find myself actually reading the quests, which is a nice change. I'm a pretty big PvP fan - taking a break from Darkfall - but Vanguard has been a nice change of pace.

I'd suggest Vanguard. It has elements of both.

If your main complaint about EVE was movement, you could give Perpetuum a try. It's copy and paste everything good about EVE but you can control your mech with WASD, it's a newer game but huge potential. It's got sandbox corp PvP and the like similar to Darkfall and what not.

The subscription fee is also below industry standard so it doesn't really dig too deep into your wallet.

    Currently playing - FF14ARR
Previous games - SWG, World of Warcraft, ShadowBane, Warhammer, Age of Conan, Darkfall, Planetside Asheron's Call, Everquest, Everquest 2, Too many.
