At GamesCom 2011, Carbine promised to show us something we'd never seen before, and boy did they deliver. Just moments ago they revealed their brand new SciFi MMORPG: WildStar!
Hello fellow star travelers and welcome! We hope your trip here on the Ark Ship was smooth and uneventful. All of us at WildStar are happy to have you here and are looking forward to giving you a tour of the planet Nexus. Adventure, danger, and untold riches await those willing to brave the dangers Nexus holds.
That same adventure (minus the danger, but with the possibility of riches) await those who brave the crowds at gamescom in Cologne, Germany and join us at our booth!
Read all about WildStar at their Official Site.

well i do like the setting & enviroments but..... that vid is giving off a kidish vibe to it, which might be what they're targeting. too soon to tell tho.
. . . . . . . . . . . . .
Well that's something.
Part of my brain was screaming "Its going to be like playing in a *bleeping* Pixar or Disney film!" while watching the trailer, but the rest was too busy laughing itself silly to pay much attention.
I can't say that whatever this game turns out to be will be my cup of tea, but they sure as heck got my attention. Plus it looks like they have a sense of whimsy and fun, something that has been sadly lacking in most of the MMOs for the past eight years or so.

Did anyone else get the Firefly vibe ? Especially with those few guitar strings in between some scenes. cpt Reynolds, Jayne and Kaylee.

I did indeed. That and the art reminds me of Titan AE. I'm digging it. Can't wait to see what the demo holds.

i'm still smiling from on ear to the other. the best trailer i saw in years! and yes, the relation to 'firefly' is there, absolutly. and if the ingame story and missions will be half as funny like the trailer, i won't hesitate a second to enjoy this game.
edit:
"We knew we were a future fantasy game - players will see both fantasy and sci-fi elements in our world and our gameplay. We also knew we'd need to be able to tell a huge variety of stories, everything from intense drama to mind-blowing action to humorous tales. There were a few influences that we really focused on. Animated films such as Atlantis, The Secret of Nimh, and Princess Mononoke really nailed the overall look of the style. We know that our game was for adults so we studied shows like Naruto and Full Metal Alchemist to see how they balanced a unique visual style with stories that had both humor and drama. Lastly we looked at comics such as Hellboy, Battle Chasers, and Tank Girl to influence our balance of technology and fantasy."
well, naruto and full metal alchimist as example of adult entertainment ... *cough* .... cowboy bebop and black lagoon would have been the better reference.
This one made my watch list. Love what I've seen so far.
This looks like a right laugh. Colour me intrigued.
Am I the only one unimpressed these days by cinematic trailers?
/sigh
When I saw the title I thought there was going to be some actual gameplay footage (crazy right?) and information about the game.
Oh well, guess it's still wait and see for this.
"There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer."
Someone tell them to get a scorlling bar in the country list cause it is impossible to sign up for beta like that!
I am really interested in the setting, but I'd really like to see some gameplay and mechanics... I really think I'd like to see a feature length movie of that though. 8)

I'm impressed because WildStar has its own lore. Games like SWG and SW:TOR are restricted (i.e. the Sith eventually lose) whereas games like Wildstar can make up whatever they want. So it's already got a thumbs up from me because of the vividness thats gone into their own art, design and story. Just hope the gameplay is acceptable and they should be on to a memorable game.
Stay tuned! Gameplay footage is coming soon, if not already! Journalists played it so look for previews, lots of them are already available. As for video gameplay footage, our game is playable on our booth already so it should come soon along with more info about the game.
Also, let's keep in mind that yesterday, people still didn't know the name of our game. The next day, not only do they learn the name, but they get to play it as well

Loved the trailer - even if its just a cinematic. It's good to see a company with humor. Also I definitely got the firefly vibe from this. Which is awesome. Always wanted an MMO style firefly game. Maybe this will be it?
WoW i was really impressed with trailer and will be following this game, there is finally something to Phone home here.
MAGA

Its direct spoof of firefly and titan AE!!!!
intro The ship whit the painting heading into orbit = firefly intro.
then they land open the door cute girl comes out followed by the merc (Preed from Titan AE) who then setups a cannon to guard the prerimeter exsactly like in the movie Titan AE.
the rest of the vid is a bit more story / game related but still had plenty of little spoofs toward firefly and Titan AE ..
I love it!!
If the writing and story line include more of the character interaction this game would be worth a try.
Just by trailer alone this bears watching.... I think I will keep an eye on this one. Looks like fun.
Yah, too bad there is already a Firefly mmo being made. This IP looks original at least unlike some other clones so might be good for the kiddies.
The downed robot had a definite Iron Giant influence.
Think they rushed the release a bit though, should have waited for the next trade show. Website not ready for visitors.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
For those wondering, here is a link to a gameplay vid on Youtube.
Thank you! That was very cool. The graphics look so very cool...love their style and the animations look fluid and dead on! The more I see of this game, the more I want to see!
