I don't really think L4D is good example. I mean, L4D was about normal people facing off zombie apocalypse with limited means. TSW is more about people with "special gifts", use of magic and secret knowledge fighting monstrosities from all kinds of mythos that start to crawl out from depth of earth.
Sure when you look at screenie of scharacter sholding a mahcine guy it may seem similar, but really, how many ways you can portray modern-world setting with monsters? TSW is not limited to zombies even tho zombies will appear, but you will have all other kinds of creatures according to the devs.
Playing: GW2 Waiting on: TESO Next Flop: Planetside 2 Best MMO of all time: Asheron's Call - The first company to recreate AC will be the next greatest MMO.
Sure the setting in this one is cool, but the gameplay will most probably suck and the PvP will surely be the same carebear crap we've been getting since WoW.
Problem with non-carebear PvP is that majority of playerbase does not want it obviously. It's just more convinient to queue up for BG and have some instant pvp action with some rewards rather than first spend time on getting some people together, then going around zones looking for enemy players, and then hoping they won't come in a massive zerg that just steamrolls you...all for nothing.
Same time games that try to do open world, unlimited pvp with pvp drops end up being simple gankfests where bored "high level, best gear" players jus grief newbies, making sure they won't stay long enough to actually level up and get their payback.
Games are industry, they need to make money. You don't make money if players don't like what you offer. Wan't pvp game go play EVE in low/null sec... or just play a game that is designed to be competetive PvP game like all the MOABs that come out lately (BloodlineChampions, LoL, HoN, DOTA, etc.)

They have already confirmed that this has a persistent 3 faction pvp system in place(as well as territorial wars over the hollow earth). they are showing and previewing it at gamescom to the press

As much as I would love to agree with you, however there really isn't a PvP mmo out there that sets the bar, I am starting to believe PvP in a game comes 2nd anyways to any mmo and you gotta have PVE no matter what.
I did however love the Ultima Online, Dark Age of Camelot, AO, Shadowbane, EVE and Star Wars Galaxies type of PvP system (despite the exploits for each one of this games)
Several mmo's have tried PvP as the main source of their mmo and have failed, lost interest or the PvP got old pretty quick (Fury, Darkfall, Shadowbane, APB, and Planetside are some good examples). We do see a niche crowd sticking with their mmo, but nothing for the masses.
If you want to just to PvP as your main source of enjoyment, then pretty much the line of TF2, CoD and Battlefield series is the way to go. Hopefully SOE's Planetside 2 will be the example of a MMOTPS. But I won't hold my breathe for any SOE title anymore.

I think they kind of nixed the hollow earth thing. They're doing something else with the PvP. You are still fighting for the resources, you're just not doing it in the hollow earth. Historical places like Stonehenge or Mayan Pyramids are the locations (battlegrounds). They may have the hollow earth thing later on though.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

THe historical places battlegrounds is NOT PERSISTENT. its instanced. And its old old old info.
What they are showing to press in gamescom is PERSISTENT pvp warzones aka hollow earth.

I think its supposed to look bit like that. It's not that straight sci-fi game but more of an zombie, vampire, witch, horror, nightmare, cyperpunk...
I'd be disapointed if there wouldnt be zombie slaughter.

The big problem i have with the game is who is making it.

There's a very simple solution to your "big problem" : Don't play it when it goes live.
Thanks for the Tip ! Excellent idea.
