Installed, Played, No thanks

Just found out about this game today. I installed and played it up to level 7. To be quite frank it's terrible.

You are literally bombarded with items and quests that you can't use without being a premium member. All the other junk you find in "treasure" chests is broken things that you sell to the vendor.

The AI is garbage and strategy is terrible. You pretty much just amass a few units and send them away to battle. This is literally every single quest. You start with nothing, build up units, kill enemy base/rescue dudes then quest done return to hometown. I did this for literally 5 hours while I leveled until I got sick of it.

No story, nothing like the Age of Empires before.

My last nitpick is the style of graphics. Dont get me wrong the game looks fine, but the ridiculous style the models and buildings have is annoying. It's like Ancient Greece went to kiddy land and only failed the miss stopping by the lolipop stand. Your army ends up looking like mental hospital ward with the almost skeletal archers and the spearmen that look like they have Down's syndrome. Building's details are over-exaggerated and look like they were made by clowns.

Overall, skip this one guys.

Sorry to hear your experience wasn't that great.

Also, I'm really diggin the graphics image

I forgot to say I agree about the repetitive objectives part, original AoE was different here.

This totally lost the flavor of the Age of Empires series. It looks more like the cartoon characters and buildings from Disney's "Hercules" cartoon. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119282/) Part of the appeal of the originals was the artwork style. They are really stretching by putting the "Age of Empires" name on this game.

In fact, it seems like most RTS companies have lost their way. Command & Conquer 4 was a disgrace to the series. It was like playing a bad console version of C&C. Supreme Commander 2 was even worse. Not only did it seem like a bad console port, but they removed the Strategy from Real-Time Strategy. In both cases, they could have released a new set of missions and units for the previous generation of the game and it would have been far more successful and enjoyable. What is wrong with RTS developers these days?

I'm enjoying it so far.  Its not something I play for hours on end.  When I have a few minutes, I pop in do a quest and pop back out.  Its simple and fun for me.

I self identify as a monkey.
