If you could choose any Game Engine to support your favorite MMO, which one would you choose?

(these are all DX11)

    Dont know why people would vote for Unreal.. its a pathetic engine that needs to die.

    Of those 4 I would pick Frostbite 2 because of the potential for destructible invironments and ofcourse it looks good. Though we dont know how well it would handle an MMO world but it would still be interesting to see.

    Of the other that are out there.. I really want to play a fully fleshed out MMO that has used the Hero Engine and after that a Crytech MMO like ArcheAge.

    Edit : I cant believe I actually overlooked that the CryEngine was on the poll LOL. Thats what happens when you work all day with no sleep kids.

    It definitely wouldn't work, but an MMO built out of the Geo-Mod (Red Faction) engine would be interesting.

    there is a eng in the works i forget the name of it now, that gives insane # of pixals they actually had rounded trees not the fake pixal rounded but actual rounded trees. and insanely realistic effects. but they were still in very early alpha for it or something.

    i randomly ran across a video show casing it on youtube one day havent found it again since.  though i dont really know how any high end eng would work for an MMO. simply do to the fact most MMO's need to balance out between high end rigs and low end. to improve the population... if you only allow high end rigs you will wind up with a weak population of players.

    while i would love to see an MMO with cys i really do not see that being possible AT this time, far to costly i think personally to allow a game to persist with that kind of eng. (i wouldnt consider MP to be the same as MMO)

    mind you i could totally see cys eng based game in a few years.. with the rate that system hardware improves and game's streamline code.

    but ofcourse its all speculation if it will be possible for todays standards.. (years from now we will have more advanced engs making these advanced ones look like 8bit ones from years ago)

    And you know that thing is already more then a year old and we never saw any actual footings about their improvements in the year? The latest video released by them is exactly the same as the one a year ago, except the commentary added. This to me is a sign that it will turn out as vaporware, or technology we will only see in about 15 years.

    None of the ones listed, in my opinion the hero engine is prefferable for MMORPGs and SW:TOR uses a heavily modified version of the Hero engine.

    I agree. I was a bit surprised that Hero engine is not on the list.

    Anet's engine is quite powerful too but I don't know if it has a name or anything.

    Depends realy on what features you want in a game, to decide what engine is better.

    Every game (mmorpgs included) will have some sort of physics they want to pursue. Some will have free z-axis movement while others realy don't need it (flying vs non-flying), and there are a few other factors as well. And each engine handles those things differently and some will do it better then the other where for the an other aspect it is turned around.

    Of those presented, I'd go with Unreal 3, but that's because I'd really like to one day create an MMO that is a cross between Guild Wars and Lineage 2 with player-created siege maps. If U3 is anything like U2, it can be modified to handle several hundred on a battlefield and the barrier to level creation for players is much lower due to the amount of tools and tutorials that are available for the engine.

    There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

    Anet has used CryEnginein a lot of their games. Both Aion and Guild Wars were built off of it.

    Anet has used CryEnginein a lot of their games. Both Aion and Guild Wars were built off of it. 

    I tought ANet used their own engine. They build it for GW1 and modified it for GW2.

    Based on look from the movies I would choose Unreal. I like it.

    Out of the 4 I picked CryEngine 3. It seems to have the most 'untapped' potential. Crysis 2 only showed a little of what the engine is actually capable of. A CryEngine 3 MMO in full DX 11 would rock! Although you'd have to have a monster of a system to play it on full settings I'd imagine.

    Anet made their engine from the ground up. The engine in GW2 is based on the engine from GW1. You may be confusing Arenanet with NCSoft. NCSoft is the producer of GW1 & 2, not the developer. NCSoft has produced many games but they do have their own games too.
