Nexon has announced that its second quarter profits are up 38% over the same time period in 2010. According to the press release, profits are up due to the company's stable of free online games and its microtransaction revenue model.
“The second quarter was an example of us doing what we do best,” said Daniel Kim, Nexon America’s CEO. “We delivered compelling content that kept our players coming back to take on adventures and have fun in our games, regardless of whether they pay a few dollars or play for free.”
During the second quarter, Nexon America aggressively delivered new content for all of its games, including premiering the Chaos saga to MapleStory, adding the unique Romeo & Juliet update to Mabinogi and making Dungeon Fighter Online and Vindictus more accessible by removing play-time barriers. Additionally, both Dungeon Fighter Online and Vindictus added huge chunks of content, which helped grow revenues from those games.

I'm happy they're doing well because i think atlantica's a great game.
i do wish they had sub options for their games the way turbine does with LOTRO tho :
RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

well, in 2010 nexon didn't had the income from atlantica online. its just 4-5 months ago that all the atlantica ndoors accounts switched to nexon. so no wonder why they have a 38% boost in income.
Bring Vindictus to rest of the world
F2P games with a cash shop are going to see a rise in profits for a while, not mind you because they are all the wonderful of games but, because they are fun games and people have gotten it in there heads they are saving money if they only have to spend money once every 6 months to get the latest gear. People are bad at math.
Comabt arms is the nexon game I have played the most, the game it self is fun but, the fun breaks down when you find the extrodinary high number of hackers and exploiters in this game. Most of them do it because they lack the skill to actually play the game and that ends up ruining it for the rest of us.
The only way to combat this in combat arms is basically to form a list of the hackers, which changes frequently, and purchase the ability to boot people from your game, so you can boot the new ones as soon as they show there cheating side, this ability alone cost $15 per week last I played combat arms and that folks works out to arounf $60 per month, that is not saving money.
So we are at $60 per month just so we can play with out a hacker shooting us from 400 miles away on top of a building, on a different map, stuck in a wall where even if you find him you can not attack him. Now we have to buy gear ...... there goes at least another $50 to $100. Cambat arms has done a good job of putting out new gear. Of course they have, everyone rushs to buy it not thinking about what they are spending. If you spend $90 once every 6 months you are paying the same price as most sub fee's. do the math people.
Most games have a good share of hackers but, most sub games at least make an attempt at limiting them, in combat arms they run free no penaltys and to play mostly free of them is going to cost you $720 per year to keep elite moderator at all times ... I rather pay a sub.
I really doubt that the addition of Atlantica alone would cause revenues to increase 38%...
